Chinhoyi Caves: What a gem!
The Chinhoyi Caves is one of the rare places on earth where a tourist wonder gets one’s pulse racing because of a scary cocktail of both frightful, fearful flushes on one hand and positive excitement on the other.
Internations Chinhoyi Caves Expedition 2013
Join the ICCE team in their Journey into the uncharted virgin depth of the Chinhoyi caves in Zimbabwe at 1200m of altitude.
This is the first Phase of the exploration, mapping and study of the Chinhoyi sinkhole and cave system organized by expedition leader Glenn Campbell.
Simon Nadim reached 191m depth after a 200m horizontal penetration into the unexplored realm of the cave. The total dive time was 7h40min.
The target of the first phase was to determine the depth and length of the cave which start at 85mfw at the bottom of the sinkhole. It was also to establish the scope of work for mapping the system.
The cave was huge and deep beyond expectation; our light beans did not reach the walls and ceiling of the cave during the big push!
We managed to produce a 3D map that gives a general visual representation of the sinkhole and cave system but misses lots of details and measurement.
This will be the target of our next expedition on the 2nd may 2015 focusing on the 85mfw to 140mfw area, if interested to join contact us at: info@coastaltechnicaldivers.com

Part 3 of my solo backpacking trip through Southern Africa; A few hours after arriving in Harare, I DM'd Afronomads sisters Chii and Tariro Muty and asked if they wanted to go check out Chinhoyi Caves. Despite not knowing me and never having spoken to me before, they spontaneously agreed and just like that I made new friends.

A very mysterious place with a powerful energy that you feel when you are there. The underground lake that begins here has the same water as that of lake Malawi over a 1000km away. Suggesting the strong possibility that this lake extends all the way underground to Malawi!
There are also rumours that mermaids are found here.

If you are driving to Kariba or Mana Pools, then Chinhoyi Caves Park is an excellent place to stop and have a look around. greatzimbabweguide.com From the main road, you would never guess, that this series of deep caves and blue pools of water exist in the hillside.
