Chinqua Penn Plantation Mansion Furnished Interior (Reidsville, NC)
This is what the interior of the Chinqua Penn Plantation looked like when it was still fully furnished. The contents of the house have since been auctioned off.
Federal agents seized the property and assets in September 2010.
The items inside the mansion were sold at auction in April 2012.
Chinqua Penn went into foreclosure in September 2013.
This footage was used for location scouting and planning purposes in 2007 for the films Mandie and the Secret Tunnel and Mandie and the Cherokee Treasure. Because this video served as a visual storyboard for the films, there are numerous 360 degree shots of many rooms and several real-time walkthroughs of the routes taken to get from one room to another.
Mandie and the Secret Tunnel filmed on location inside the mansion in 2007. Dean Jones appears in the movie and filmed scenes at Chinqua Penn.
Mandie and the Cherokee Treasure filmed on location inside the mansion in 2010. Hayley Mills appears in the movie and filmed scenes at Chinqua Penn.
The mansion is now completely empty. The footage presented here was recently discovered on a vaulted hard drive and I am making it available as quite possibly the most complete visual record of the contents and layout of the mansion.

ChinquaPenn Plantation Final Sale Property Tour, part 1 of 2
This is the Well known Chinqua-Penn Plantation in Reidsville NC. THe home was built in 1925[ish] By the wealty Jefferson and Betsy Penn. After their deaths the home was given to the University of N.C. system and for years was kept furnished with all the original treasures from around the world. I first toured the home in 1982 and couldnt believe what I saw. This was surely the states second best residence, after the Biltmore House.
The farm is owned and run by NC State Univ, [ we call Moo U. for obvious reasons] The house was sold at the top of the 2006 bubble to some new-money tobacco type and soon was under water and down the recession tube like so many others. Foreclosure, bank sale, auction blah blah blah.
On Sat. Jun 8, 2013, after a previous large auction, the final items were offered in a sort of yard sale. This raw video was from this event. The quality is poor but It's here for anyone interested.
This is a very sad sight to me as the treasure is just turning to crap. Homes like this can never be built again as the international craftspeople that had to be assembled to do this lever work are a distant memory.

Historic Chinqua Penn Plantation is nestled on close to 23 acres in Reidsville, NC
Built in 1925, the Manor house was designed by New York architect Harry C. Ingalls. The exterior is rustic with a slate roof, exposed oak logs, and stone that was quarried on the plantation site.
The 27 room interior is eclectic with inspiration from all over the world. Hand carved wood, molded plaster ceilings, and hand painted tile can be found throughout the mansion. With 35 ft ceilings and hand painted exposed beams, the dramatic living room was intended to resemble the nave of a Spanish style church. The solarium is painted in a Renaissance design and overlooks the rose garden. The walls of the oval dining room are made of whitewashed Swedish pine bordered by chinquapin leaves. The hall leading to the master suite lined with cedar closets. The sitting room of the master is octagonal with a built in corner cupboard. The bedroom is large with a beautiful fireplace. Leading from that area is the dressing room and master bath.
The guest quarters are located on the second floor. This area showcases the eclectic taste of the original owners of the property. In the five quest bedrooms, you will find original silver-backed Chinese wallpaper, French provincial design, and Italian inspired bedrooms. Three of these bedrooms have private baths while the other two share a bath. On the other end of the second floor are the servants quarters. The four bedrooms in this area are more intimate and share a large bath easily accessed on the hall.
The Lodge Group, a series of quest cottages, gift shop, conference room, restrooms,and clock tower, sit closer to the main road. The cottages once served as quarters for the staff as well as a laundry facility. The stone clock tower stands at 75 feet tall and was constructed by J. S. Skambato in 1931. The original owners built the tower to alert staff and guests of the time while they were farming or riding horses on the estate.

Cooleemee Plantation
The 1800-acre Cooleemee Plantation in Davie County was permanently conserved by the LandTrust for Central North Carolina in 1996, making it one of our first conservation easements. The historic plantation is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been maintained since its origin in the 18th century by the Hairston Family. The site features over four miles of frontage along the Yadkin River, native hardwood forests, and several large farm fields. Chancellor Folt Visits Reidsville High School
UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt speaks to students and members of the community at Reidsville High School in Rockingham County. She joined school and community leaders in celebrating the success of the Carolina College Advising Corps. The program has helped improve the college-going rate in Rockingham County by pairing high school students with recent Carolina grads, who help them navigate the college application and financial aid process. The visit was Folt's first to a North Carolina high school since becoming Chancellor on July 1.

Abandoned North Carolina Plantation + DJI Phantom 3
This is known as the Barrow-Powell House and is located in Eastern NC. The small rear section was probably built in the late 1700's by the Barrow family who later moved to Louisiana. The large front section was built around 1820 and later altered and enlarged in the 1840's. The Powell family lived in the house for many years and the family graveyard is still located behind the house.

Though the Lucky Strike brand originated with a company that American Tobacco Company had acquired in 1905, Penn perfected the cigarette’s blend and manufacturing process. He also invented the slogan that became synonymous with the brand: “It’s Toasted.”
Soon Lucky Strike became America’s best-selling cigarette. Penn enlarged his father’s old tobacco factory in Reidsville to produce Lucky Strikes, quickly making the Rockingham County town among the nation’s top tobacco production centers; it adopted the nickname “Lucky City.” Penn’s family was also involved in the community. His brother constructed an English manor house known as Chinqua Penn, and he himself established Reidsville’s first library.

Reidsville Confederate Monument Remembrance
This is a memorial of the Reidsville Confederate Monument (originally placed in the square in June 1910 by the UDC) but was destroyed by a car accident in May 2011 in the dead of night leaving a trail of warranting suspicion.
He proudly stood in the circle at Morehead and Scales Streets for over 100 years. He represented many soldiers who served in the Confederate Army. Of one of those men was my great-great grandfather who left behind a wife and two small children. One was my great-grandfather. George Preston served to save his land and his home-place from egregious and pompous who desired to destroy his home and the homes of many many others. We shall never forget what the Civil War was all about and it wasn't the revisionist history that is rampant today. Learn the truth about the Civil War such as the book The Real Lincoln for starters.
As many of the monuments and statues regarding the heritage and history of many citizens throughout many states ,who have ancestors who served valiantly in the Confederate Army have been damaged, desecrated and torn down for the few; this video has been completed to show the love, passion and life of this Confederate Soldier that has been woven inextricably throughout the very bones of its ancestors, citizens and other brethren of what the Confederacy stood for....he waits the outcome.
