Chocolate Hills, Bohol - ???????? Philippines - 4K Virtual Tour
Wandering around Chocolate Hills National Monument, Bohol Island, Philippines. Click here ▶ to see highlights and guide.
The Chocolate Hills are probably Bohol's most famous tourist attraction. The term Chocolate is derived from the brown, dark collor the hills turn due to constant baking in the sun during summer months. Unfortunately this video was taken before the summer, therefor the hills are now covered with more vegetation and colored green.
The hills are a very strange geological formation that has baffled a lot of geologists. The hills are spread over an area of 50 square kilometers or more and vary in size from 30 meters to 120 meters in height. The Chocolate Hills appear to be seemingly endless when viewed atop the hill in Carmen town as seen in this video. The viewing deck there gives you a 360° view of the hills “as far as the eyes can see”. It is more majestic when viewed from a plane – them appearing to be thousands of mole hills dotting out from verdant surroundings.

Bohol Island Tarsiers and Chocolate Hills Philippines | VLOG 7
The Tarsier is the smallest primate in the world and has the largest eye to body ratio and are extremely cute, cuddly and adorable.
Our first full day in Bohol, Philippines me and maya decide to take a bike and drive towards the famous chocolate hills. Along the way we saw a lot of cool things including a man made forest made of mahogany trees and a small tarsier sanctuary. Because tarsiers are nocturnal they were all sleeping when we saw them and therefore extra cute. All in all it was one of our best days in the Philippines.

Chocolate Hills of Bohol, Philippines
The Chocolate Hills is an unusual geological formation in Bohol province, Philippines. There are at least 1,260 hills but there may be as much as 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres. They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name.
The Chocolate Hills is a famous tourist attraction of Bohol. They are featured in the provincial flag and seal to symbolize the abundance of natural attractions in the province. They have been declared the country's third National Geological Monument and proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Chocolate Hills form a rolling terrain of haycock hills - mounds of a generally conical and almost symmetrical shape. The domes vary in sizes from 30 to 50 metres high with the largest being 120 metres in height. During the dry season, the grass-covered hills dry up and turn chocolate brown. This transforms the area into seemingly endless rows of chocolate kisses. The branded confection is the inspiration behind the name, Chocolate Hills.
Legend has it that the hills came into existence when two giants threw stones and sand at each other in a fight that lasted for days. When they were finally exhausted, they made friends and left the island, but left behind the mess they made. For the more romantically inclined there is a tale about a young and very strong giant who fell in love with an ordinary mortal girl. After she died, the giant cried bitterly. His tears then turned into hills, as a lasting proof of his grief.
However, up to this day, even geologists have not reached consensus on how they where formed. The most commonly accepted theory is that they are the weathered formations of a kind of marine limestone on top of a impermeable layer of clay.

EXPLORING CHOCOLATE HILLS BOHOL | Fighter boys | Philippines travel vlog
The fighter boys take on the Chocolate Hills in Bohol!
Last year I travelled for 3 months as a foreigner in the Philippines before concluding my filipino travel vlog series with the Fighter Boys trip with Kyle Jennermann of Becoming Filipino, Daniel Marsh, Finn Snow, Bret Maverick. Nicknamed the Fighter Boys, after our sponsor Fighter Wine. We did a 2 week road trip through Mindanao
This year our sights were set on some different islands. Our first in this series was Camiguin Island, and now we've landed in Bohol.
The Chocolate hills in Bohol are definitely a mainstream attraction in Bohol. However, we all enjoy carving our own path in life and travel, and soon found ourselves on a dirt path trying to find our own private experience.
We found exactly that. This place was special, and I hope you can see that in this Philippines travel vlog.

Bohol Philippines Tourist Spots: The Best of Bohol (Philippines)
Bohol Philippines Tourist Spots: The Best of Bohol (Philippines)
Join us as we rediscover Bohol through Stand Up Paddling (SUP) across the Loboc River, fearlessly Bike Zipping across a picturesque view of the Chocolate Hills, Dolphin watching in Pamilacan, Snorkeling in Balicasag Reef Sanctuary, and enjoying the beautiful beaches of Anda.
BEST OF BOHOL: 7 New Awesome Experiences You Should not Miss!
The 2013 earthquake may have caused serious damage to Bohol’s popular churches and structures, but that doesn’t stop tourists from coming as there is more to Bohol than its Chocolate Hills, cute tarsiers, and old churches.
1. SUP TOURS PHILIPPINES
Stand Up Paddling (SUP) is the latest eco-adventure in the Philippines. And if you ever find yourself down south in Bohol, don’t miss the chance to paddle for 8kms across the Loboc River, one of the biggest rivers in the island.
Here, you’ll get to experience local Boholano culture and natural sceneries from a unique vantage point–by gliding on water! You can even watch magical fireflies at night on a SUP board.
Touring Bohol by SUP is a different experience. We glided through the waters and enjoyed nature where no cars or motorbikes could take us.
2. UNDISCOVERED ANDA
Anda is known for the best white beaches in Bohol. The public beach area in Anda is still not developed but there are exclusive cliff resorts with beautiful secluded coves.
We just visited on a day trip and got a preview of the beach, the resort, and the food and were impressed by what we saw.
We’ll definitely be back to do a full feature on Anda, Bohol.
3. DOLPHIN WATCHING, BALICASAG, AND ISOLA DI FRANCESCO TOUR
One of the must-do activities in Bohol is watching the dolphins swim in their natural habitat near Pamilacan Island.
It’s recommended to get the Bohol Island hopping tour from the resort you’re staying at, but you can also book a boat elsewhere depending on how big your group is. We prefer the island hopping speed boats used by Bellevue Resort, which are ideal for getting close to the dolphin action and are much faster than the bangkas.
Snorkeling in the small Balicasag Island Sanctuary off the coast of Panglao, Bohol with a healthy and preserved coral reef full of fishes and even sea turtles!
5. UNIQUELY BOHOL FOOD EXPERIENCES
The Buzzz Cafe is the retail store and cafe of Vicky Wallace’s Bohol Bee Farm, with 3 branches in Bohol and one in Cebu.
The Alona Beach branch is popular for its healthy breakfast, a great view of Alona Beach, and its uniquely-flavored homemade ice creams. We love their healthy breakfast choices, the use of honey in their butter and sauces, and their unique ice cream flavors. Their meats are a bit tough.
I love the prices of the dishes (just around P200-300/dish). Budget about P600/head when dining here.
Osang’s Homemade Broas
Henann Resort Bohol
Broas or ladyfingers are simply made of egg, sugar, and flour.
Osang’s Broas are traditionally baked in a pugon (charcoal) oven and still use the original recipe. Make sure to order in advance as they only make enough batches per day as to not waste ingredients.
The broas (P100 per bag) are a perfect pasalubong alternative to the usual peanut kisses.
6. CHOCOLATE HILLS & TARSIERS (A NEW PERSPECTIVE)
A trip to Bohol isn’t complete without having to see the iconic Chocolate Hills, one of the natural wonders of the world.
Chocolate Hills has over 1,247 hills spread out in Carmen Valley and neighboring towns.
Tip: The Chocolate Hills are brown during summer time, which make them look like Chocolate Kisses.
The best place to see the Chocolate Hills is at Carmen view point where we had to walk 214 steps to reach the topmost deck.
Chocolate Hills Adventure Park (CHAP) is an adventure park with ziplines, tree-top rope courses, and eco-trails.
Conquer your fear with the 550-meter long Bike Zip featuring the picturesque Chocolate Hills as your backdrop.
Take a closer look at the Chocolate Hills and the towns with an ATV ride. The unpaved road and rough terrain make the ride more exciting.
We took the 1-hour tour that includes a guide. Our First stop was the three sisters, where you’ll get the best close up shot of the hill.
Tarsier came from the word Tarsidaee meaning long legs. It is the oldest primate on earth, believed to have existed 45 million years ago before the dinosaurs became extinct.
It has five characteristics :
– Owl-like eyes and nocturnal nature
– Ears as sharp as a bat’s
– A body like a monkey’s
– Tail like a mouse’s
– Legs like a frog’s that enable it to jump 3 meters from one branch to another.
They are considered endangered species because they are only able to produce one baby a year. They are very sensitive and have suicidal tendencies when caged by humans or brought to other places where they are not used to the weather.
The tarsiers we saw were kept in a mini-forest where they are able to stay in their natural habitat.
