I take an afternoon walk through Chongqing, China, one of the largest cities in China with an urban population of around 18.4 million. Chongqing is one of my personal favorite cities, with a skyline that beats out both Shanghai and Hong Kong, a grungy cyberpunk atmosphere, and a plethora of narrow, winding, and chaotic streets.

Train Goes THROUGH Residential Building in China's Mountain City Chongqing
A light railway track has been built to go through a hole in a residential 19-storey building in China.
The city of Chongqing in the south-east of the country has a population of 49 million packed into 31,000 square miles, causing urban planners to look creatively at solving space issues.
A special railway station was built into the block of houses, set into the sixth to eighth floors.
Residents can hop on Chongqing Rail Transit No.2 at their own Liziba station.
Even though they are living in close quarters to a busy train station, any noise has been muffled by special equipment.
To homeowners in the complex, the sound of the train is designed to be as disturbing as the noise from a dishwasher.
By doing this, planners avoided having to take the whole building down to make way for the train tracks.
A city transport spokesman said: 'Our city is very heavily built upon and that can make finding room for roads and railway lines a real challenge.'
The port city of Chongqing is one of the four municipalities in China and lies along the banks of the river Yangtze.
Even though it is a densely populated area, it is nicknamed the Mountain City because it lies around deep swathes of forest and hills.

Chongqing (Chinese: 重庆; pinyin: Chóngqìng, [ʈʂʰʊ̌ŋtɕʰîŋ]; formerly Chungking[a]) is a major city in Southwest China and one of the five national central cities in China. Administratively, it is one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only such municipality in inland China.

The light railway in Chongqing, known as Mountain City for its densely packed skyscrapers, was squeezed through a residential block due to a serious shortage of space
It may look a little loco as a train emerges from a block of flats but this city’s planners are chuffed.
Chongqing in south-east China is known as Mountain City for its densely packed skyscrapers – and fitting in a light railway system was causing a real headache.
So their solution was to build through the 19-storey tower rather than go around it or demolish it.
Residents there can hop on at Liziba Station, which was built on the sixth to eighth floors, and rail bosses added noise reduction gear that makes the trains about as noisy as a dishwasher.

World's Longest Glass Skywalk to Open to Public in China's Chongqing
A glass skywalk jutting out from a 718 meter-high cliff for more than 26 meters in the Longgang scenic area of Yunyang County, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality will open to public on April 26, said the Chongqing government during a news conference Tuesday.
With the cantilever part of the bridge extending 26.68 meters from the edge, over five meters longer than the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk in the United States, the structure is dubbed the world's longest glass cantilever bridge.
The construction of the project at the height of 1010 meters started in March 2014 and has just been finished recently, local officials said.
Only 30 tourists will be allowed to get on the bridge each time, said the officials in the news conference.
Various performances including base jumping, fashion shows and acrobatic performances will be staged on April 26 on the skywalk during its opening ceremony, according to the local tourism authorities.
Performances on the cantilever bridge will indeed be different from those performed on the ground. The fashion shows and other performances staged high in the sky of more than 1,000 meters will be thrilling and exciting. It will be a brand new visual feast for visitors, said Peng Zhousong, director of the Yunyang Tourist Administration.

A new phenomenon has taken the internet by storm: Chinese rap. But behind its skyrocketing popularity, there is a struggle for freedom of speech. Rappers try to figure out what they can and cannot say after more censorship is announced. In Chongqing, one of China’s biggest cities, surveillance is unavoidable. Announcements echo across the vast squares warning that “morally suspect individuals” are banned from speaking in public. It’s not exactly the most stimulating environment for young people looking for something more than collectivist slogans. They express their artistic resistance against the lack of freedom in their tattoos and underground hip-hop. The rappers feel trapped in the immense city.
