Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin Ireland- Dublin Sightseeing / Things to do in Dublin
Dublin has always been rich with places that you will need to visit while being in the city and among all the suggestions and choices which we are always trying to bring, we decided to head to the Christ Church Cathedral and bring you the wonder of this place.
For nearly one thousand years, people have been coming to Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin to worship God but now it is also a historical place and building that has gone through several changes and renovations which tourists who come to visit Dublin tend to visit and check the beauty of the place as a whole.
This place is the heart of Dublin and that is exactly the reason why it always welcomes all the people to come as pilgrims or visitors and enjoy the transcendence of God which is always seen and delivered through the beauty of the place as a whole.
Christ Church Cathedral dates back to 1030 where it was found in its current location and since then the history of this building has been written. Christ Church contains the largest cathedral crypt in Britain or Ireland and it is open to the visitors who are allowed to come inside and check it. This historical crypt was constructed between 1172 and 1173 but after that we have to say that it has undergone much renovations in the early 2000s.
Apart from those who might be visiting this church in order to worship God, there are those coming inside to check this beautiful historical place and those are the ones who will come inside the crypt to check what it carries from a different range of historically significant artifacts, such as the carvings, statues, and the antiques.
Old is Gold; this phrase which has always been considered true is now proving itself to the greatest extent, because all those old things we are seeing inside the crypt could easily prove themselves to be real gold. Inside the crypt, the oldest known secular carvings in Ireland could be found on display in the form of two carved statues - they took our breath away actually and we were astonished with all those other statues as well.
There were some changes done to the place and that could explain why those carvings have not always been standing in the same place but until the late 18th century, these used to stood outside the Tholsel, Dublin's medieval city hall.
Once one enters this huge crypt, there will be different things appearing around that one could check. In addition to the statues and the carvings, the crypt also exhibits a tabernacle and set of candlesticks which were used when King James II came to Ireland to fight for his throne after fleeing England in 1690.
This place is like entering a wonderland, there are lots and lots of things and details which one will witness. The stocks which one will get the chance to see in the crypt were formerly held in Christ Church place and were then moved to the Cathedral later on in 1870 - still a very long time ago but it is something to be mentioned and referred to. These stocks were made in 1670 and were used in order to punish offenders under the cathedral's exclusive civic authority.
If you think that this is all what the crypt could be holding out for visitors then you are wrong because during this visit to the Christ Church Cathedral, we were also lucky enough to know and see that it contains historic books and altar goods which one will manage to see there.
There is also a display where different things are placed in the crypt as well and where one will find several outfits which were worn by Maria Doyle Kennedy (Catherine of Arogan) and Jonathan Rhyes Myers (King Henry), which is a TV drama called The Tudors.
One of the most significant things to be found in the crypt is the preserved skeletal remains of The Cat & The Rat which were once found in the church organ.
There are actually a lot of things that one could experience and witness inside Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, and a lot of historical information to gain about the place and the changes it has already been and gone through.
There are different other things which you could visit in Dublin; you could go to O'Connell Street ( the Four Courts along the River Liffey ( and going to River Liffey itself ( visiting Trinity College ( Dublinia Viking Museum ( the Merrion Square ( the Mansion House ( Leinster House ( and walk through lots of different beautiful parks as well, where one will enjoy history and at the same time enjoy the green areas and places.

Don't Miss Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin
Christ Church Cathedral was founded in 1030 and, as beautiful and as interesting as the main cathedral is, visit to see the ancient Crypt below. The Crypt dates from the late 12th and possibly 11th Century, and is the oldest structure in Dublin! They stretch under the nave as well as the quire of the upper church and heavy, rough stone pillars carry the entire weight of the cathedral and central tower.
The Crypt has many historic artifacts which only survived because they were not in the way! Opposite the Crypt entrance are statues of Charles I and Charles II which are thought to be the oldest secular statues in Ireland. (I have no idea which is which.)
Different exhibitions are scattered within the Crypt; manuscripts, books of common prayer, silver and gold plate, and the mummified remains of the Cat and the Rat made famous by James Joyce. Altogether, a fascinating stop in Dublin.

Backstory: Earlier this year my family and I began an adventure we call Slow Traveling. ✈????
We sold a bunch of our belongings, put the rest into storage, got rid of our house, our car, and headed to Ireland for 6 weeks!
We stayed in one place for a whole month before moving on, so we could really drink in our surroundings.
This video features a bunch of clips I filmed on my iPhoneX during an adventure day in Dublin - not too shabby! Sorry about any shaky footage, I wasn't using a stabilizer of any kind. But still fun to see, I think.

CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL-Awesome Dublin Medieval Cathedral and Crypt!
The Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland was our first stop after getting no sleep on a red-eye from JFK airport. I really wanted to see this beautiful medieval Romanesque and Gothic cathedral and crypt because for me, it represents true medieval Irish history-it's the oldest building in Dublin. The architecture brought me back hundreds of years and inside you can see the tomb of Strongbow, a medieval Norman Welsh warlord, and a crypt that features a beautiful collection of priceless silver and Ireland's first copy of the Magna Carta. This cathedral is definitely a must-see when you visit Dublin!

CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL - Dublin, Ireland
Christ Church Cathedral, more formally The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. The cathedral was founded probably sometime after 1028 when King, Sitrick Silkenbeard the Hiberno-Norse king of Dublin made a pilgrimage to Rome. The first bishop of this new Dublin diocese was Dunan or Donat. The church was built on the high ground overlooking the Viking settlement at Wood Quay.
The cathedral was originally staffed by secular clergy. The second Bishop of Dublin introduced the Benedictines. In 1163, Christ Church was converted to a priory of the Regular Order of Arrosian Canons (Reformed Augustinian Rule). This priory, the Priory of the Holy Trinity, became the wealthiest religious house in Ireland, holding over 10,000 acres (40 km2) of property in County Dublin alone.
Step into the Cathedral and you will discover its beautiful interior, a magnificent nave, a fascinating medieval crypt, and many important treasures – reflecting part of the history of Ireland, both religious and political.
The Nave is magnificent in its beauty. It contains the tomb of Richard de Clare (Strongbow), a medieval Norman-Welsh peer and warlord, notable for his leading role in the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland. It also includes the heart of Saint Laurence O’Toole (1128 –1180), who is Dublin’s patron saint, and was Archbishop of Dublin at the time of the Norman invasion of Ireland.
The restored 12th-century crypt, one of the largest in Ireland or the UK, now houses the important Treasures of Christ Church exhibition. The exhibition features manuscripts and artefacts that give the visitor some impression of nearly one thousand years of worship in the cathedral and nearby churches.
Outstanding among the rare church silver is the stunning royal plate given by King William III in 1697 as a thanksgiving for his victory at the battle of the Boyne. The Treasury also plays host to a rare 14th Century copy of the Magna Carta Hiberniae.

Some of the filming for The Tudors took place at this Cathedral. I did this video as I am 100 per cent Fan of Jonathan Rhys Meyers and a fellow Celt - I am sure Jonathan will donate something for this worthy cause. If he is donating kisses I would be the first in the queue. Ha, Ha, maybe autographs would be a good idea I would love a autograph. Blessings and may this worthy cause reach it's goal.
