National Anthem and Pledge Of Allegiance At North Texas Catholic Men's Conference
At the beginning of the North Texas Catholic Men's Conference the men sang our National Anthem and said the Pledge Of Allegiance. An Honor guard from the Knights Of Columbus escorted the flag during the procession into the sanctuary.
The speakers at the conference were: Doug Barry, Tim Staples, Al Kresta and Father Bill Casey.
Doug Barry is the founder and director of the Catholic apostolate RADIX. Traveling extensively, he has spoken to thousands through television, radio and live appearances.
He is co-host of the weekly EWTN show Life on the Rock. Doug's most recent project is the Radix' Camp Gargano that helps shape a tough fighting spirit in the body, mind and soul of a Catholic man.
Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization at Catholic Answers. Although he fell away from the Christian faith, his faith in Jesus Christ was revitalized during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists.
After a tour in the Army, he enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. During this time, Tim studied Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. He converted to Catholicism in 1988. Tim has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.
Al Kresta is a broadcaster, journalist and author who is, first of all, a missionary. He is President and CEO of Ave Maria Radio and host of Kresta in the Afternoon. He draws upon his unique faith background to create what is, arguably, the most fascinating — and most spiritually constructive — talk radio program on the radio today.
A Protestant pastor in the 1980s and '90s, Al returned to the Catholic Church. In 2003, he lost his left leg to necrotizing fasciitis, a virulent infection often referred to as the flesh-eating bacteria.
His extended recovery and eventual return to broadcasting gave him new insights into the realities of suffering and hope.
Fr. William Casey, C.P.M is Superior General of the Fathers of Mercy in South Union, Kentucky. Fr. Casey's talks emphasize the need for spiritual renewal and the importance of making a good confession.
Father attributes his call to the priesthood to the Mercy of God, his love for the study of Sacred Scripture, and his strong devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Since forming the North Texas Catholic Brothers for Christ in the summer of 2011, our small band of brothers has grown to include men from over a dozen parishes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The vision for our group is: All Catholic Men Committed to Building the Body of Christ.
Our mission is: To motivate all Catholic men to commit to building the body of Christ, by uniting as brothers, witnessing the Gospel in all areas of our lives, and facilitating faith building programs in our community.

Linda Severance (Rideout) Tribute
Linda Jean (Rideout) Severance, 63, loving wife of 47 years to Floyd Severance Sr., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ June 7, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born June 20, 1949, in Bangor.
She married her high school sweetheart, Floyd Severance, June 19, 1965. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her family was very special to her. Linda devoted over 18 years of her life volunteering for Orrington Ambulance Squad. She was also on the auxiliary and spent many evenings teaching CPR courses. Linda ended her time with the ambulance as an emergency medical technician-intermediate. She thrived on helping others in any way that was possible. Linda spent many years working at Canteen Services Co., in the money room. She spent time working at the State Hospital, working as a dispatcher for Bucksport Police Department and with Wade & Cyr as a first aid nurse. Linda's dedication to helping others extended to caring for the terminally ill. Linda spent the last six years working for Republic Parking at the downtown parking garage where she collected tickets. She had the best boss to work for and the other employees loved her. She touched the lives of many with her easy going smile and simple wave goodnight. Linda was an avid crafter and many times would knit baby sets and make fleece blankets to give away to anyone that was expecting a child. She loved the word vacation. Floyd and Linda went on many vacations together. They enjoyed taking the Blue Nose Ferry to Canada, and visiting numerous different states and sights; North Carolina, Washington D.C., Seattle, Iowa, Niagra Falls, the Grand Canyon, Phoenix, the Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, and Mexico. Linda loved her Lord and Savior and was a member of Saint John's Catholic Church. Her faith never faltered and she was a faithful servant.
She is survived by her mother, Elaine Rideout of Bangor; her husband of 47 years, Floyd Severance Sr.; two sons, Floyd Jr. of Phoenix, and Michael of Bangor; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Dan Nicholson of Brewer; six grandchildren, Christian Nicholson, Michael Severance Jr., Kayla Noddin and husband, Douglas, Mary Severance, Darien Severance and Keisha Nicholson; three great-grandsons, Blake and Gabriel Noddin and Elijah Nicholson; three brothers, Bruce, Chester and True; four sisters, Starr, Crystal, Tammy and Lisa; two sisters-in-law, Deanna and Marion, two brothers-in-law, Richard and Tim and; stepbrother, Dennis; many nieces, nephews and cousins; several special in-laws; and many very dear friends. The family extends a very special thank you to New Hope Hospice. With your care and compassion, she was able to be as comfortable as possible.

Black Elk (1866-1950) lived a humble and holy life in South Dakota as a traditional medicine man and Catholic catechist. Known worldwide through books such as Black Elk Speaks and Black Elk: Holy Man of the Oglala, his life has inspired many to follow in his footsteps. Global Leaders Visit the U.S. With Pope, Chinese President
It's going to be a big few days for global events and world leaders visiting the United States. Pope Francis arrives in the United States later today. He will be greeted in Washington by President Obama and the First Lady. His visit could delay deliveries of new iPhones to those customers in cities where he will visit which also include New York and Philadelphia. Meanwhile, China's President Xi JinPing is traveling to Seattle today to visit with Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, Apple's Tim Cook, and Disney CEO Bob Iger. Today Bank of America (BAC) shareholders will vote on whether the company had the right nearly a year ago to make Brian Moynihan both the company Chairman and CEO. In 2009, shareholders voted to separate the roles but the board later recombined the positions. U.S. Fertilizer company Mosaic (MOS) says it will cut potash production and lowered its outlook for sales. It blames market volatility and lower crop prices.

On January 1st, 1892, Anne led her two younger brothers off their boat, still gasping at the sight of the colossal statue raising the torch of Liberty over New York City. Anne was met by a party of serious-looking but smiling officials, who welcomed her with gifts, and even some gold coins! Anne was a teenager from Ireland, and probably thought of herself as being just an ordinary girl, another one of the many Europeans in search of a new life and a brighter future in the New World.
