Explore the underwater world of the Florida Keys with a family snorkeling adventure. WTD #6. Snorkeling Florida Coral Reef/ Christ of the Abyss / Florida Keys Snorkeling
Who doesn't love relaxing Key West? This week our RV family adventures took us snorkeling John Pennekamp coral reef on a snorkeling tour in Key Largo, Florida. The Christ of the abyss in key largo was really awesome to see.
From there we headed out to Key West, Florida. On our way down we stopped at Bahia Honda State Park. Down in Key West, we visited Fort Zachary Taylor state park. We rented a charter boat and captain and went out to the only coral reef in the US.
Florida coral reef snorkeling is unbelievable so if you have a chance definitely take it.

Our first stop in the Florida Keys is at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on Key Largo, Florida. There are tons of activities to choose from here - everything from kayaking, to snorkeling and a variety of reef tours. This state parks was the first in the United States to protect an underwater area of over 70 nautical miles. We begin in the visitor center, then hop on the boat for a ride out to the Atlantic Ocean where we view the reefs from the boat.

Diving at The Christ John Penny Camp, Key Largo, Florida
Touching Christ of the Abyss 1080 HD
July 6, 2017 - Visited John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and had the opportunity to snorkel near Dry Rocks. This location features the Christ of the Abyss statue. It is made from bronze, is over eight feet tall, weighs 260 kg, and has a concrete base which weighs approximately 9 tons. It is located in 25 feet of water, approximately six miles east of Key Largo.

Snappers Key Largo - Restaurant & Tiki Bar
Snappers in Key Largo has long been a Florida Keys favorite, and it's history goes back to the 1960's. Ana Maria Reyes and VIP TV had recently filmed this video there as part of their Florida Keys TV Special.
Sadly, Snappers suffered a complete loss, at the hands of Hurricane Irma. It was one of the hardest hit structures in the Upper Keys, but the owners have announced they will rebuild as soon as possible.

Christ of the Abyss - a popular dive and snorkel attraction in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo Florida is filmed by a VideoRay Pro 4 Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) system. The ROV was piloted from a Silent World Dive Center vessel at sunset.
