It draws in approximately 2 million visitors each year and since the arrival of TGV service in Strasbourg in 2007, the number of visitors has been on the rise. Hotels can be booked a year in advance and some receive between 15-17% of their yearly income thanks to the Christkindelsmärik's visitors. It is considered one of the most famous Christmas markets throughout Europe. Strasbourg has been holding Christkindelsmärik around its cathedral since 1570, making it one of the oldest Christmas markets in Europe.

The Strasbourg Christmas Market has incredible Christmas lights, trees and decorations, along with amazing food and artisans!

If you are going to be in France during December, it is worth your time to stop in Strasbourg, a picturesque city in the Alsace region...what a magical Christmas atmosphere! It deserves its reputation as the 'Christmas Capitol' of France.
The Strasbourg Christmas market is a vast outdoor public space spreads all over the Old Town which sells anything to do with Christmas. It is locally called Christkindelsmärik (Marché de l’Enfant Jésus) and is one of the oldest in Europe. In 2014, the Christmas market of Strasbourg was voted “Europe’s best Christmas Market”. The little stalls made of wood (called châlets) sell decorations, local products and craftsmanship, without forgetting “vin chaud” (mulled wine), Christmas cakes, biscuits and gingerbread.
Since the opening of the new high-speed-train between Paris and Strasbourg in 2007 (TGV Est-Européen), which links the two cities within 2.45 hours, a day spent in the capital of Alsace’s market has become an extremely popular outing for Parisians.

Strasbourg, France Christmas Market 2019
I visit to Strasbourg, France and their cities Christmas Market! We attended on a Friday afternoon, parked at a P&R outside of the city center and took a tram to the market. Parking and tram cost less than 5€. There was ice skating, a few rides for the kids, crafts, sweets, food, and of course, mulled wine! Public restrooms were near the cathedral. Loved the old feel of the city mixed with modern stores. Less than 2 hours from Ramstein AB, Germany and easily a day trip that could be combined with the nearby city of Colmar.
