Μόλις λίγα χλμ έξω απο το Ρέθυμνο,βρίσκεται το Στρατιωτικό μουσείο Χρωμοναστηρίου που άνοιξε τις πύλες του στο κοινό μόλις το 2010.Ο επισκέπτης μπορεί να θαυμάσει όπλα και στρατιωτικό εξοπλισμό απο τις μάχες για την απελευθέρωση απο τον τουρκικό ζυγό μέχρι τους Βαλκανικούς πολέμους και τη Μάχη της Κρήτης.
Για όποιον ενδιαφέρεται για τη νεότερη στρατιωτική ιστορία,το εν λόγω μουσείο θα οπτικοποιήσει πολλές απο τις γνώσεις του ειδικά στον τομέα των όπλων.
Το εισιτήριο είναι μόλις 1,5 ευρώ.

Μουσείο Στρατού στο Χρωμοναστήρι
Ξενάγηση στο Μουσείο του Ελληνικού Στρατού στο Χρωμοναστήρι στο Ρέθυμνο. Την ξενάγηση κάνει στα Αγγλικά Έλληνας στρατιώτης.
ΜΟΥΣΕΙΟ ΕΛΛΗΝΟΪΤΑΛΙΚΟΥ ΠΟΛΕΜΟΥ
Το στρατιωτικό Μουσείο πολέμου 1940 - 41 βρίσκεται στην είσοδο του Καλπακίου, Στα εκθέματά του περιλαμβάνονται - μεταξύ των άλλων - πυροβόλα, φορητός οπλισμός, στολές, φωτογραφίες και άλλα αντικείμενα της εποχής. Επιπλέον, μέσα από τη γραφική και ηχητική αναπαράσταση των μαχών του ελληνοϊταλικού πολέμου ο επισκέπτης αισθάνεται ρίγη συγκινήσεως και εθνικής υπερηφάνειας, καθώς βρίσκεται στον τόπο όπου μετουσιώθηκε σε πράξη το ηρωϊκό ΟΧΙ.

Kriegsmuseum Kares
Kreta- Urlauber wissen oft nicht, welche Not die kretische Bevölkerung nicht nur im Altertum, sondern auch im zweiten Weltkrieg erleiden musste, leider auch durch die deutsche Wehrmacht. Im Dorf Kares bei Askifou hat George Hatzidakis (er wurde als Zehnjähriger im Krieg schwer verletzt und verlor seine Familienmitglieder) ein kleines Museum errichtet. Dort hat er gesammeltes Kriegsgerät und Waffen der beteiligten Kriegsnationen (England, Neuseeland, Griechenland, Italien und Deutschland) ausgestellt. Das Museum sollte uns ein Mahnmal dafür sein, dass nie wieder solche Kriege geführt werden. Sein Sohn Andreas führt Gäste verschiedener Nationen durch das Museum.

In Lakki, and more specifically in Merikia, is the war museum, not in some classical building but in a tunnel in the mountain which was built by the Italians in 1930 as an ammunition depot. At the entrance there are military vehicles, airplanes and various kinds of weapons. Inside the museum you hear sound documents from the Second World War and the sound of bombers is just like the days of the war. All along the tunnel there are interesting historical objects such as weapons, clothing and personal items of the era perfectly preserved.

Touring Crete - Hidden War Museum in the White Mountains - Amazing World War II History
Driving through the White Mountains of Crete, we pass a mountain goat climbing straight up a mountain wall before detouring to an historical war museum in a tiny mountain village on the road to the south of Crete.
The day started with just beaches as a destination - but a sign on the side of the mountain road for a war museum was too tempting to pass up. So glad I took that short detour - the museum, a personal collection of war relics collected over decades, was SO worth it.
George, a small boy who started collecting these relics shortly after the invasion of the Battle for Crete during World War two, amassed quite the trove of war treasures for this museum. His son and granddaughter now serve as tour guides, and it's enthralling the detailed knowledge they hold of every item inventoried and on display.
From rifles, to machine guns, to grenades, to helmets, to dental kits - from all nationalities involved in the Battle for Crete - it's all there and on display. Fascinating.

Beaches Crete - Paradisos, Chora Sfakion - Secret War Museum - Authentic WWII Relics
Crete's northern coast is full of life, tourist and good times 24/7, but it's southern coast is a bit less travelled and a lot more remote and undeveloped.
Here we found Paradisos on a map, a small dot on a small road, so we headed across the mountains in the direction of that dot.
After winding down the mountain, we arrive at Paradisos beach and hang out at this remote location at what seems like the end of the world and then head to the impressive Frangokastello. Along the way to Frangokastello on the southern coast, we stop and check out an old Venetian Fortress along the waterfront - which leads to another amazing beach.
As we travelled through the mountains heading south, we followed a sign to a War Museum - located in a small mountain. Many of the relics were hand-collected in the fields and mountains of Crete by the museum's founder shortly after WWII. Very impressive. We also roll through Hora Sfakion and navigate a long, steep mountain road to the town of Anapolis - situated up in the heavens of Crete. Some beautiful images of Crete and captures the remote, yet tranquil nature of the island's south side. Enjoy the beaches and enjoy the trip!!
