Barrelrollman - Chunichi Dragons vs. Yomiuri Giants, Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan 4/2013
On April 7th 2013, the Chunichi Dragons played the Yomiuri Giants at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan and the Barrelrollman Organization enjoyed the action! Though a number of ball clubs have come and gone, since 1958 Japanese professional baseball has had twelve teams, evenly divided into two leagues. The higher status Central League offers a more traditional style of baseball while the more dynamic Pacific League features faster-paced games and employs the designated hitter. Each year, the two pennant winners meet in the Japan Series. The Chunichi Dragons and Yomiuri Giants are both a part of the Central League. Japan's most popular ball club, the Yomiuri Giants always attract standing-room-only crowds. The Giants won nine straight Japan Series championships in the 1960s as Japan was becoming an economic superpower and many fans consider a Yomiuri championship a symbol of financial success. To cheer against the Giants, therefore, is to cheer against prosperity and against Japan. You may notice the fun atmosphere in this video and differences as compared to Major League Baseball in the USA. Japanese Professional Baseball features multiple mascots, cheerleaders, bouquets of flowers given to home-run hitters and women serving beer in the stands with kegs on their backs. We salute the Japanese professional baseball league! Check out Barrelrollman.org where we're rolling around the world in search of Guinness World Records, while rocking out to good music while raising money for a great cause! Let's punch it!

Japanese baseball fans from Chunichi Dragons mock Hiroshima opponents with sickening ‘Let the A-bomb
A SECTION of supporters from baseball team Chunichi Dragons have been condoned for sickening taunts over the devastating Hiroshima bomb. The Dragons were taking on Hiroshima Carp when a 20-second video emerged on social media of vile chants. A group of fans sang: Go for it. Die. Let the atomic bomb drop on the Carp. Hiroshima was left devastated when an atomic bomb was dropped on the city by the U.S. in 1945 killing hundreds of thousands. The video showed a group of fans wearing Dragons' blue colours chanting and clapping with a band accompanying them in the background. An official from the Dragons said in a statement: It is difficult to identify the fans but we feel extreme regret over the remarks. We will continue to make efforts to create an environment in which spectators can watch games with a sense of security and joy. The incident happened at the Mazda Stadium in Hiroshima. MCGREGOR MADNESS Conor McGregor charged with assault after smashing rival Khabib Nurmagomedov’s bus with metal trolley in attack that left at least two injured Approximately 70,000-80,000 people lost their lives on impact of the bomb and another 70,000 were injured. It is believed about 70 per cent of Hiroshima's buildings were destroyed.

Mr. Baseball premiered nearly a quarter of a century ago but one of its main settings, Nagoya Stadium, still stands. Check out this shooting location for the film foreign baseball players agents urge them to watch before joining a team in Japan. We also biked over to Atsuta Jingu Park Stadium- hallowed ground in Nagoya baseball history.

Planning a Family Trip to Japan
We’re off to Japan!
Next week the Todoing Family will be hitting up Japan and we are super excited. We’ll be flying into Narita International Airport, just outside of Tokyo, and then utilising public transport to work our way around the country for 12 days of awesome. We’ve finalised our itinerary so watch out for some of our highlights over the coming two weeks.
More info on our blog:
We’re going to start our trip exploring Tokyo, learning all about the city, it’s history and the technology of today. We will tour around city hot spots, including a visit to the Imperial Palace, Senso-ji Temple and the Tsukiji Fish Market. We’re also going to spend time at the *NEW* Digital Art Museum and the Miraikan Science Museum. We’re even going to fit in a Taiko drumming class and a trip to the Japanese toy store.
After a few days in Tokyo we will be moving down the country along the ‘Golden Route’ which follows the old Tōkaidō road. We’ll get our first taste of the famed Shinkansen Bullet Trains on our way down to the Hakone Region. Here we will explore the 5 Lakes region surrounding Mount Fuji. We’ll be travelling by cable car, trains, buses and even a pirate ship thanks to the Hakone Free Pass. We’ll even get a chance to try out a traditional family Onsen which should be great for relaxation after a busy first few days.
We’ll then continue our Journey to Kyoto, where we will visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine and the famed Bamboo Forest. In the evening we hope to explore Kyoto’s old streets and buildings, trying to spot the odd Geisha on her way to appointments.
After Kyoto we will visit the Byodin Temple and then Nara Park where we are sure that Harry will spend most of the day chasing and patting the Deer. He has asked lots of questions already on this topic, keen to get as close as possible as often as possible in between viewing the temples and shrines.
From there we will head to Osaka for a few days, exploring the Dontonbori area and Osaka itself. We’ll be taking a Mario Kart ride (we have been advised we cannot bring our own bananas and turtle shells) and trying out as much street food as possible. Jed and Harry have set their goals of nothing but eating sushi this trip but I am sure some Takoyaki (amoung other things!) will tempt them.
We’ll visit Nagoya Castle and then the Nagoya Dome, where we will watch the local Chunichi Dragons (who have a Koala as one of their mascots) play baseball. We’re also going to attend the Grand Sumo Tournament locally, and if Alex and Harry wrestling in their undies last week attests to anything, the whole family is excited to see the Sumo’s go at it!
To round off our Japan experience, we will be visiting Disneyland and Disneysea. Those will be great and almost get lost in all of the cultural, sporting, history and food activities we have planned above.
We’re super excited for this trip and can’t wait to share it all with you. We’re trying to share as much as we can with our boys on this unique family holiday overseas. We’re going to be tired, but it will be an experience we will definitely remember. We’ve brushed up on some basic Japanese too, so fingers crossed with a bit of planning, Google Translate and the basics of Japanese, it should all go smoothly!
Japanese flying car successfully hovers during test flight
Japanese electronics manufacturer Nippon Electric Company (NEC) Corporation unveiled a prototype flying car. The flying car stayed in the air for almost a minute during a test in Japan this week. About the size of an auto rickshaw and equipped with four horizontal propellers, the drone-like prototype reached a height of three meters (10 feet). The flying car is designed for unmanned delivery flights, NEC officials said. The Japanese government aims to start commercializing flying vehicles from around 2023, beginning with the transportation of goods, and expanding to people closer to 2030.
