Kazan on the Volga river is a multi-ethnic city known for its racial and religious tolerance. It is populated mainly of orthodox Christians and Muslims. However, the capital of Tatarstan is also home to a community of Roman Catholics, who are celebrating the opening of a new church.

Собо́р Каза́нской и БМ - православный храм перед монетным двором на углу Красной пл., Никольской ул. в Москве. Главный престол освящён в честь Казанской иконы БМ. Первое упоминание Казанской церкви на Никольской ул. 1625 г деревянная церковь, возведённая на средства князя Дм. Пожарского. построен и освящён в 1625 г в «Историческом путеводителе по М_» (1796). предположение, храм возведён по обету в честь изгнания из М_ польско-литовских интервентов. пожар 1634 г построен каменный храм на средства царя Михаила Фёдоровича и освящён патр-хом Иоасафом I 1636 г. через 11 лет к нему был пристроен придел в честь казанских чудотворцев Гурия и Варсонофия. На церемонии освящения присутствовал сам царь Алексей Михайлович. Шатровая колокольня, вероятно, была пристроена к четверику с северо-западной стороны, как было принято в церковном зодчестве начала XVII в, для колоколен, единовременных храмам. Несмотря на миниатюрность, храм стал одной из важнейших церквей М_ его настоятель занимал одно из 1-ых мест в ряду московского духовенства. Один из них «расколоучитель» Григорий Неронов. Казанский собор - 1-й из полностью утраченных в советское время храмов М_, к-рый был воссоздан в первоначальных формах. Воссоздание было осуществлено в 1990-93 гг инициатива Мосгор отд_ Всероссийского общ-ва охраны памятников истории и культуры (МГО ВООПИиК). принятия решения Моссовета о восстановлении «памятника воинской славы» (1989) начался сбор пожертвований. Автором проекта стал архитектор О. И. Журин, один из учеников П. Д. Барановского. Восстановлению храма препятствовала община будущего храма. Kazan Cathedral Russian: also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, is a Russian Orthodox church located on the northeast corner of Red Square in Moscow, Russia. Joseph Stalin, in 1936. Upon recovering Moscow from the armies of the Polish--Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1612 at the close of the Time of Troubles, Prince Dmitry Pozharsky attributed his success to the divine help of the icon Theotokos of Kazan, to whom he had prayed on several occasions. From his private funds, he financed construction of a wooden church to the Virgin of Kazan on Red Square in Moscow, which was first mentioned in historical records in 1625. After the diminutive shrine was destroyed by a fire in 1632, Tsar Michael I, ordered it replaced with a brick church. a wide gallery, and a tented belfry, was consecrated in October 1636. Kazan Cathedral was considered one of the most important churches in Moscow. Annually on the anniversary of the liberation of Moscow from Poland-Lithuania, After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Kazan Cathedral was the first church to be completely rebuilt after having been destroyed by the Communists. The cathedral's restoration (1990-93) was sponsored by the Moscow city branch of the All-Russian Society for Historic Preservation and Cultural Organization, and was based on the detailed measurements

Kazan Jewish festival opens today
The Jewish festival Limmud Volga-Urals begins today in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, with an inter-faith dialogue.
The largest Jewish festival in the region, Limmud Volga-Urals will this year feature a series of exceptional events. The first of these is titled “Interfaith Dialogue – Islam, Judaism, Christianity”, a conversation between religious leaders in the region. The discussion will be co-chaired by Chaim Chesler, founder of Limmud FSU (former Soviet Union), with the participation of the Chief Rabbi of Russia, the Chief Rabbi of Tatarstan, the head of the local Russian-Orthodox church, the Grand Mufti of Tatarstan, senior Islamic clerics and two prominent rabbis from Israel.
Later in the festival, Tatar President Rustam Minnikhanov, leaders of the local Jewish community and the Israeli Ambassador to Russia will take part in a ceremony to rededicate the 100-year-old Great Synagogue of Kazan.
Taking place at the same time as Limmud Volga-Urals will be the Kazan Festival of Jewish Music, jointly organised by the Jewish community and the government of Tatarstan.
Limmud Volga-Urals is a conference run entirely by local volunteers, and will feature presentations, workshops, discussions, cultural activities and artistic performances. The festival is coordinated by Limmud FSU, a Jewish educational organisation that aims to strengthen Jewish communities throughout the former Soviet Union.
Kazan is well-known as a multi-ethnic city, and has the third largest Jewish population in Russia.
Relics of catholic saint John Bosco draw believers in Moscow
Relics of Saint Don Bosco have arrived in Russia's largest Catholic church.
They will be on display at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary for the next two days. The popular saint founded the Salesian Society and is a patron of young people.
