The church of St Peter & St Paul Appledore
Here I take a look around the ancient parish church of Appledore in Kent. The village stands on the edge of Romney Marsh and was once a port on the estuary of the river Rother that once flowed through the village. The importance of Appledore as a port diminished suddenly in the 13th century when great storms caused the river to change its course. The medieval church of St Peter & St Paul dates back to Norman times although little remains as the village was attacked by the French in 1380 and the church was razed to the ground. The present building dates to the early 1400's.
