Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Most)
During the sixties, Most's historic center was completely destroyed to make room for the expanding lignite mines, a process that lasted until 1980. Unlike other historical building it was decided to save the church by moving it away from mining area.
An expert committee was set up by the Ministry of Culture of Czechoslovakia to supervise the project, presided over by academician Stanislav Bechyně. From 1969 the committee was led by Alois Myslivec.
To move the building, a variant on a bow path was chosen. The transfer was overseen by the firm Transfera Praha, an organisation of the Czech Ministry of Culture, and was performed by Průmstav Pardubice and Škoda Plzeň.
Prior to moving the building, the peripheral masonry, the bearing and supporting pillars were reinforced, and the remainder of the western tower was demolished. The church circumference was reinforced by a concrete ring and the church was gripped by a steel framework construction on the inner as well as outer sides. The preparation work lasted seven years, as it was also necessary to demolish all houses in the transfer path and fill in the former opencast mine.
53 transport trucks were set on special rails, which were inserted under all statically important points of the building. These transport trucks worked using computer controlled hydraulics, as were four booms used to pull the church. During movement of the church on the road section, rails which had already been passed over were moved from behind the building to in front of it, allowing them to be used again.
Between September 30 and October 27, 1975, the church was moved a distance of 841.1 meters at a velocity of 1–3 centimeters per minute to the vicinity of the old hospital with a small church of the Holy Spirit, and it was set on an iron-concrete two-storied foundation.[2] After the move was completed, restoration work went on until 1988, and the church was solemnly consecrated again in 1993.
This building was mentioned in Guinness Book of World Records as the heaviest building ever moved on wheels (12 700 t).

Hostýn, the Guardian Virgin Mary
Hostýn is the most visited Marian shrine in Moravia, located in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. According to tradition, its history dates back to 1241, to the time of the Tatar invasions, a barbarian people who sowed death and destruction wherever they went. Some Moravians found refuge in the Hostýn Mountain and miraculously escaped the Tatar's assaults. This episode, taken as a sign of divine intervention, was attributed to the intercession of the Guardian Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Assumption - known as Our Lady of Svaty Hostýn - who came to their rescue. The mountain, where pagan rituals formerly took place, became a site of Christian worship after Moravia, thanks to Saints Cyril and Methodius, was evangelized. The statue of the Guardian Virgin Mary, also known as the Victorious Virgin Mary, occupies the central altar of the Basilica. She is holding the Child Jesus in her arms, who has bolts of lighting in His hand. The statue was placed there by those who had taken refugee in the mountain as a sign of their gratitude. On the mountain, there used to be a chapel that had been built in the 16th century, which was used especially by the workers from nearby mines. It was destroyed a century later because of constants attacks. After the Thirty Year's War, the chapel was rebuilt. For the first time, the statue of the Our Lady with the Child Jesus was placed in the chapel. The crowning of Mary on August 15th, 1912, was a moment of great rejoicing. Her crown, set with precious stones, was blessed by Pope Pius X in Rome. There are other shrines dedicated to Mary in the vicinity, such as the Shrine of Velehrad, the old home of St. Methodius, where the Mater Unionis is revered, that is, the Mother of the unity of all Christians.Passage of Pius XII's Prayer to Our Lady:O Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of men, we believe, with all the fervor of our faith, in your triumphal Assumption into Heaven, body and soul, where you are acclaimed as Queen of all the choirs of angels and the countless multitude of saints. We join them in thanking and praising God who has exalted you above all creatures and in offering you the tribute of our devotion and our love...We trust that your merciful eyes will gaze down upon our miseries and anguish, upon our struggles and our weaknesses; that your lips will smile upon our joys and our victories; and that you will hear the voice of Jesus saying to you of each one of us, as He once said of His Beloved Disciple: Behold your son. Franciscan Church - Bratislava
The oldest church located in the old center of Bratislava is the Franciscan Church of the Holy Virgin Mary's Assumption. It was consecrated on March 25, 1297, in the presence of King Andrew III, Ostrihom's Archbishop and four highest bishops of the country. It was rebuild during years 1613-1616 in Renaissance style and later on during years' 1745-1746 in Baroque style. Numerous fires and earthquakes damaged the church structurally, that in 1897 gothic tower was removed. This tower is now placed in park of Janko Král in Petržalka, on the right side of Danube.
Franciscan Church belongs to the most important places of coronation celebration, where the newly crowned king would come on foot from the cathedral of St. Martin. During the celebration, Knighting act would take place here. Selected aristocrats would be knighted to the order of the Golden Spur. On the north wall-of the church there is a separate two floor Gothic chapel of St. John Evangelist, built in 14th century. This is a true gem of Gothic architecture. It was the funeral chapel of the Jakubs' family, the first lord mayor of Bratislava.

Andrea Pozzo, Affreschi nella Chiesa di sant'Ignazio Roma manortiz
Apotheosis of St Ignatius (1688-94)
Trompe l'oeil frescoes in Sant'Ignazio, Rome
Background
Arguably the greatest example of quadratura painting ever seen, The Apotheosis of St Ignatius was created by the Jesuit lay brother Andrea Pozzo (sometimes called Padre Pozzo) to decorate the dome, the apse and the ceiling in the huge Jesuit church of Sant' Ignazio (St. Ignatius of Loyola), in Rome. An absolute masterpiece of Baroque painting, it marks the apogee of trompe l'oeil art, a discipline in which architectural and painting unite to create illusions of space and perspective. Other important Italian Baroque artists who specialized in quadratura in Rome, were Pietro da Cortona (1596-1669), famous for his Allegory of Divine Providence (1633-39) in the Palazzo Barberini; and Giovanni Battista Gaulli (1639-1709), noted for his ceiling fresco Triumph of the Name of Jesus (1674) in the Church of the Gesu in Rome. Baroque aesthetics were particularly receptive to this sort of awe-inspiring Christian art but Pozzo and his contemporaries also benefited from the traditions established by Renaissance quadraturisti such as: Melozzo da Forli (1438-94), and Correggio (1489-1534), famous for his Assumption of the Virgin (Parma Cathedral) (1526-30).
Analysis of The Apotheosis of St Ignatius by Andrea Pozzo
Although Pozzo had undertaken numerous commissions to decorate Jesuit churches with Biblical art - using mural paintings marked by foreshortening as well as various illusionistic devices, such as fake ceilings, gilding, balustrades and other trompe l'oeil architectural motifs - the decoration of the Church of Sant' Ignazio was his first major fresco series. The church's decorative theme was the Life and Apotheosis of Saint Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556), founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and a key supporter of the more doctrinal Catholic Counter-Reformation Art, launched by the Council of Trent. The main theme - an allegory of the Apotheosis of St Ignatius - was painted on the ceiling of the nave, which looks like a lofty vaulted roof embellished by statues, even though the ceiling is actually completely flat. Pozzo opened up the nave ceiling further by painting an illusionistic cupola, open to the sky, and populated with upward floating figures. The ceiling fresco depicts the work of Saint Ignatius and the Society of Jesus; shows Saint Ignatius entering Paradise, being welcomed by Christ and the Virgin Mary; and also celebrates the work of Jesuit missionaries on four continents - In addition to the nave ceiling fresco, Pozzo completed three fresco paintings in the apse that surround the high altar - Saint Ignatius Loyola experiencing his vision at La Storta; sending St Francis Xavier to the Indies; and greeting St Francesco Borgia. Lastly, Pozzo was also responsible for the Assumption of the Virgin fresco on the ceiling of the chapel in the left transept, and for the St. Aloyzius Gonzaga in Glory fresco on the ceiling of the chapel in the right transept.
Hundreds at Bulgaria monastery procession
(17 Apr 2017) Hundreds of believers from across Bulgaria on Monday gathered at the Bachkovo Monastery in the Rhodope Mountains to join the procession with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which is believed to have healing powers.
Orthodox Christian believers came to the holy place to light a candle in front of the icon, which is the most precious treasure of the centuries-old Bachkovo Monastery.
They took part in the prayer and hymn chants, before starting on the march outside of the monastery.
The procession was sent off by the festive chime of the church bells and headed to the Kluviyata area up in the mountain where the icon had been found by shepherds some 400 hundred years ago, according to the legend.
The icon's powers are believed to be at their peak on the second day of Easter, and it is the only time in the year that the icon is taken briefly out of the monastery.
Braving the rainy weather, believers took turns in carrying the icon so that as many as possible could touch it for health and spiritual peace.
Once the procession reached Kluviyata, a mass was held and the abbot of the Monastery blessed the worshippers.

Łódź ghetto : St Mary Assumption
The most significant landmark of the Łódź ghetto is the church of St. Mary Assumption, financed largely by Protestant and Jewish business owners for their Catholic workers in the nineteenth century. In the ghetto it had various uses, here I talk of some of them.
My channel on you tube : is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced over 2,320 original films.
My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects.
Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!
I am very fortunate that I can spend a large part of my life travelling, thanks to the business I chose to run which allows me to do this. There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

Jindřichův Hradec: Walking Through the Town & Around the Castle
Jindřichův Hradec is a beautiful small town in South Bohemia with almost 22.000 inhabitants. In summer, it is not as overcrowded with tourists as other Bohemian towns, but it offers the visitor some very special monuments. Apart from the Narrow Gauge Railway JHMD (see ), there is a splendid castle, the Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Church of Saint Catherine connected to the Franciscan monastery by a bridge called Little Monastery, the Holy Trinity sculpture in the centre of the Peace Square (Náměstí Míru) with surrounding Renaissance and Baroque buildings, the Museum of Photography in the buildings of the Jesuit College, and many more. Unfortunately, I had only a few hours for sightseeing. If you don't have much time, start to watch the video at 6:59 , it is its most atmospherical part, shot in the beginning dusk. :-)
Procházky městem a okolí hradu

Kateřiny připojen k františkánského kláštera mostem (klášteříček), sousoší Nejsvětější Trojice na náměstí Míru a okolních renesanční a barokní stavby, muzeum fotografie v budovách jezuitská kolej, a mnoho dalších.
