Great Consecration of St. Olga's Church - Вел. Освящение Ольгинского храма
Великое освящение Ольгинского храма - Джексон, шт. Нью-Джерси США
In 2013, the Eastern American Diocese commemorates the 75th anniversary of the founding of St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. The church was founded in 1938, with the laying of the cornerstone taking place in 1940. Throughout the long years, during which the majestic Memorial Church was being built, the divine serves were held in the relatively humble lower church named in honor of the Holy Equal-of-the-Apostles Grand Princess Olga -- foremother of the Russian princes and the first among them to accept Orthodoxy. This year, in honor of the Memorial Church's jubilee, as well as the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, gave his blessing to perform the Great Consecration of the lower church.
On Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday the 24th of July, on the very feast day of St. Olga, Metropolitan Hilarion visited Jackson and led the divine services (Metropolitan Hilarion is also the rector of the Memorial Church.) On Wednesday morning, after the greeting of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God -- Protectress of the Russian Diaspora -- the rite of the Great Consecration was performed, followed by the Divine Liturgy.

Concert choir sings song about atomic bombing of USA at Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg
The concert choir of St. Petersburg, performing on February 23 at St. Isaac's Cathedral, sang a song about the atomic bombing of the United States. The song by Andrei Kozlovsky was written during the 1980s. The choir performed it after the main program, in which the choir performed songs by Vladimir Vysotsky, Alexandra Pakhmutova and others.
The song, which was originally written as a piece of satire to Soviet propaganda, sounds particularly ominous against the background of recent statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin about the targets for Russia's new missiles.
The lyrics of the song can be translated as follows:
On a submarine with an atomic engine on
and with a dozen bombs up to a hundred megatons
I crossed the Atlantic and call gunner Petrov
to take aim at the city of Washington!
The satirical song is about the atomic bombing of Washington, which Soviet soldiers were ready to do for just as little as three rubles. Many in Russia did not find the performance of such a song appropriate, especially in an Orthodox temple and suggested calling those responsible to criminal account for insulting the feelings of believers.

Russia - Production of religious icons
T/I: 10:46:25
With another Orthodox Christmas approaching, the Russian Orthodox Church may be on its top form for many years. There are thousands of Orthodox Churches being rebuilt all around the country and millions of believers are returning to them to reinstate the world-famous Orthodox belief, which was oppressed under the Communist regime.
In addition, the main symbol of Orthodox faith - the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour - nears its completion in Moscow.
At the same time, a factory in Sofrino, specializing in making religious
objects, works at its full capacity. It is the biggest enterprise of its kind in the whole of the former Soviet Union.
The factory, which employs over 3,000 workers, produces a wide range of goods for Orthodox churches, priests, believers and anyone who wishes to buy a Russian Orthodox icon or souvenir.
Contrary to what one might expect, the factory is far from mass production, and some of its products, made in single numbers, are really masterpieces

say that our production is far from having mass character. Highly artistic items like icons are made in single numbers, possibly a dozen, since every archbishop would like to have an original panagia [image worn round neck by Orthodox priests] or cross, not like anything else.;

Church of St. Catherine in Saint Petersburg
The Catholic Church of Saint Catherine is the oldest Catholic church in the Russian Federation and the only church with the title of basilica. It is located on the Nevsky Prospekt and is a part of the Archdiocese of Moscow headed by Msgr. Paolo Pezzi.
In 1738 Empress Anna granted permission for the church to erect a structure on Nevsky Prospekt, the main street of St. Petersburg.
The Catholic Church of St. Catherine is connected with many important personalities of Imperial Russia and other countries. In 1798, Stanisław II Augustus, the last king of Poland, was buried at the church, as was, in 1813, the French general Jean Victor Marie Moreau. One parishioner of the church was Auguste de Montferrand, who would go on to build the Saint Isaac's Cathedral. Auguste de Montferrand married in the church and later had a wake here before his wife took his coffin back to France. Even in Imperial Russia, several well-known aristocrats had accepted Catholicism.
The church was run by different monastic orders in its history. Originally run by Franciscans in 1800 Emperor Paul I turned the church over to the Jesuits. In 1815, the church was run by Dominicans, and finally, in 1892, the church ceased to be governed by an order and fell under the auspices of Diocesan priests, though a Dominican community remained at the church. On the eve of the Russian Revolution of 1917, the church membership numbered more than thirty thousand parishioners.
Under the Soviets, the activities of the church were repressed. The rector of St. Catherine's Church, Monsignor Konstantin Budkevich, was shot in the Lubyanka Prison on Easter Sunday, 1923. The church, however, remained open until 1938. In 1938 the church was closed and ransacked. Artifacts, icons, and books from the church's splendid library were thrown out to the street. The church was further damaged by a fire in 1947, that destroyed the internal decorations of the church and its organ.
For 30 years, the building was used only as storage space for the nearby Museum of History of Religion and of Atheism located in the former Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. In late 1970s plans were made to rebuild the church as an organ hall for the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. These plans were never completed, however, as the building was again ravaged by fire in 1984. Instead, the government used the building as offices and apartments.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Catholic Church in Russia began to operate once more in the early 1990s. In February 1992, city authorities decided to return the building to the Catholic Church. That same year, the church began rebuilding. According to the church, after being closed by the Soviets in 1938, a 20-year-old woman went into the ransacked temple and retrieved the crucifix out of the sanctuary. When the building was returned to the Catholic Church, she returned the crucifix. The first stage of restoration was finished by October 1992, with a temporary altar in place for worship. In October 1998 a Chapel of the Annunciation was opened. The main altar was completed and blessed in 2000. The restoration of most of the church was completed in 2003, and the central gates were opened. Restoration of the interior of the church is ongoing.

Morning bell ring in Samara, Russia
Anthem
The birds the sang
at the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don't dwell on what
has passed away
or what is yet to be.
Ah the wars they will
be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again
the dove is never free.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
We asked for signs
the signs were sent:
the birth betrayed
the marriage spent
Yeah the widowhood
of every government -
sign for all to see.
I can't run no more
with that lawless crowd
while the killers in high places
say their prayers out loud.
But they're summoned, they've summoned up
a thundercloud
and they're going to hear from me.
Ring the bells that still can ring...
You can add up the parts
but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march,
there is no drum
Every heart, every heart
to love will come
but like a refugee.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.

Russians Catholics euphoric over rare ordinations
On June 28th in Moscows Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Archbishop Paolo Pezzi ordained two graduates of the St. Petersburg Higher Catholic Seminary: Kirill Gorbunov to the rank of deacon and Deacon Igor Sergeyev to the priesthood. In an interview, Archbishop Pezzi explained that such events are especially important in countries like Russia. In nations where the prevailing religion is Catholicism, ordinations may happen rather frequently and in larger numbers. But this is not the case in places where Catholics constitute a small minority. We must not forget that the ordination of a priest is a mystery. Particularly, its a sign of the presence of God in Jesus Christ, in His community and in His Church. And all that is related to the sacraments. Therefore, this is, in fact, a great event. In this sense, I think it is right to stress that this is a special event. I repeat, we must show euphoria about the fact that, thanks to God, we ordained at least one priest, and to emphasize the importance of the event as such.Through the Apostolic Nuncio in Russia, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, Pope Benedict XVI conveyed his blessing to the newly ordained.
