Churnet Valley Railway ~ 3rd August 2019
After checking out of the YHA Snowdon Ranger, I drove to the east of Stoke-on-Trent to visit the Churnet Valley Railway starting off from Kingsley and Froghall.
Passenger service was provided by 1945-built United States Army Transportation Corps (USATC) 'S160' Class 2-8-0 No. 5197. Before departure, I took a look at this American-built steam locomotive.
Then, from Kingsley to Froghall, No. 5197 took me and the other passengers on a road trip through the beautiful Staffordshire countryside.

Churnet Valley Railway Super Power Saturday
Churnet Valley Railway Super Power Saturday which saw the first gathering of three S160s in Britain since the 1940s.
Considered to raise money for the Reconnect Leek appeal. Resident S160s 5179 ne Chinese State Railways SD6.463 and 4046 ne Magyar Államvasutak MÁV (Hungarian State Railways ) 411.144 were joined by 2253 Omaha ne Polish Railways Ty203.288 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Sadly the event was a wash out with the carriages at Kingsley & Froghall and the locos at Cheddleton and the track between flooded. However as the three locos were in steam they were all on show at Cheddleton.

CHURNET VALLEY RAILWAY TRIP 13 -6-18
This was an amazing visit to the Churnet Valley Railway. Officially a 'Footplate Experience' on a real steam train. From the Kingsley and Froghall station up the line via Consall station to Cheddleton Station and back again. All the staff were friendly, informative and you could tell they really enjoyed what they were doing. Highly recommended.

Churnet Valley railway from above
Churnet Valley Railway a Heritage railway near to Stoke on Trent, England.
Regular services travel between the two main stations at Cheddleton (the base of operations and motive power) and Kingsley and Froghall (the commercial and Administrative base). There is an intermediate station at Consall. Some trains also head beyond Cheddleton to Leek Brook Junction (the limit of the Churnet Valley Railway's track) and on to Ipstones, but Ipstones station is not in use.
The railway is roughly 10 1⁄2 miles (16.9 km) long from Kingsley & Froghall station to Ipstones. The land from Leek Brook Junction to Ipstones is owned by Moorland & City Railways (MCR), a company aiming to run freight trains from the quarries at Cauldon to the national network at Stoke-on-Trent, and to re-introduce a commuter service between Leek and Stoke.
