Got lost in the lava hiking in the Chyulu Hills.
What I later learned is that I crossed the widest area of lava. It is almost a mile wide at this point which I later learned from Google earth. It was a great challenge for me and my shoes but I was a bit under prepared.

Mzima springs.
In Tsavo west there is an amazing place called Mzima springs. It supplies the whole city of Mombasa with fresh water. 190 million litres per day gush forth from the springs. The water comes down off of the chyulu hills. The ground in this area is porous/lave, so any rain seeps straight through to the springs.
