Circular Congregational Church Graveyard Est. 1681
I discovered this cemetery on a carriage tour while visiting Charleston, SC. It is the oldest graveyard/cemetery I have ever encountered. Most of the headstones were unreadable, however, I do find one from 1737, that is clearly readable! This video is a portion of our Charleston weekend getaway video.

Amazing Grace - Mark O'Connor in The Circular Church
Mark O'Connor at The Circular Church in Charleston, SC. August 5, 2011. This church was the first place where Amazing Grace was performed in the United States.
The footage was taken on the morning of Mark O'Connor's 50th Birthday in downtown historic Charleston in 2011. Mr. O'Connor got his violin out and played it just for 3 or 4 family members and the caretaker of the church.
The historic Circular Congregational Church is in the heart of downtown Charleston. Circular is one of the oldest continuously worshipping congregations in the South. Founded by Charles Towne's original settlers in 1681, the Circular Church is a National Historic Landmark and a Charleston treasure. The words for the famous spiritual Amazing Grace were inspired in the author, John Newton, while worshipping at Circular.
Circular Congregational Church, home of The Sound of Charleston, is one of the oldest continuously worshipping congregations in the South, having been founded in 1681. The church’s graveyard is the oldest in the City. Of historical note is the fact that John Newton, author of “Amazing Grace”, worshipped here for several Sundays in the Spring of 1749 on his road to conversion. Many years later, he returned to England and wrote perhaps the world’s favorite and most recognizable hymn. Each performance concludes with the cast singing “Amazing Grace.” Circular Church is handicap accessible. Parking is available in the garages both on Cumberland Street and Queen Street, less than a block from the church.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
