Slyudyanka is the capital of the Irkutsk region. The city of Slyudyanka is one of the two cities of the Irkutsk region located on the shore of lake Baikal. Slyudyanka is a small town. The train had been initially hauled by electric locomotive ВЛ65 001 [11400066] Irkutsk to Slyudyanka. Л4253 + Л3653 [tender-to-tender] took the train forward to forward to Port Baikal.
If you choose the westbound tour along the lake [Thursdays and Sundays], you start the day in the tour bus from Irkutsk (after breakfast in your hotel) which takes you to a ferry at Listvyanka to pick up the steam railtour at Port Baikal. [If you do the eastbound steam journey along the lake [Wednesdays and Saturdays], you start off with the electric loco out of Irkustsk, and then do the ferry and bus in the evening to return to Irkutsk from Port Baikal, following the steam ride along the lake.]

Отдых на Кругобайкалке считается у нас особенным, так как позволяет прикоснуться к рукотворному чуду - дороге, которая выглядит так, как будто ее сотворил не человек, а природа, настолько гармонично вписана она в ранимую природу Байкала. Мосты, каменные арки, тоннели – кажется, вечно были здесь, а не построены руками человека.

Кругобайкальская железная дорога (КБЖД) находится на юго-западном побережье Байкала. Ее протяженность сегодня составляет чуть менее 100 километров между портом Байкал в истоке Ангары и Шаманским Мысом под Слюдянкой.
