Top Things To Do in Porto 2019 4k
Hey Must Do Travels Tribe! Today, we are hitting up Porto, a coastal city in Portugal that is known for its bridges, cobblestone roads and incredible porto wine. Let’s go check it out!
Luis I Bridge
This double-decker bridge is an icon of the city of Porto. It runs across the River Douro linking the Port wineries in Vila Nova de Gaia with the buzzing downtown of Porto. The granite pillars of the original bridge built in 1881 are still in place to this day.
Porto Cathedral
The Porto Cathedral is a must do sight in Porto for its historical significance as well as being an architectural landmark of the city at the same time. The cathedral was built between the 12th and 13th century and remains the largest place of worship in Porto.
Clerigos
The Clérigos Church is a stunning church in the city of Porto. Its tall bell tower can be seen from various points of the city and is one of its most characteristic symbols of all of Porto.
Capela Das Almas
This Chapel, which is called the Chapel of Souls in english, is famous for its picturesque exterior of blue & white tiles painted with scenes from the lives of saints.
Jardins Do Palacio De Cristal
This stunning botanical garden is one of Porto’s best kept secrets. Here, you can find a mosaic of gorgeous small gardens that open up little by little as you walk around. You can also find amazing views of the city and the river.
Liberdade Square
The Liberdade Square, also known as Freedom Square, is the most important square in all of Porto as it connects the old town with the modern part of the city.
Mercado Temporario do Bolhao
The centenary Market of Bolhão (MB) is the most symbolic market of the city of Porto and one of the most famous in Portugal. It has been in renovations since May 2018 and will be for the next 2 years. In the meantime, it is located in the Temporary Market of Bolhão, only two minutes away from the original market.
Praca Da Ribeira
Down by the River Douro, you will find narrow streets that open out onto a plaza surrounded by tiled townhouses overlooking the stunning river. From here you have beautiful views of the port-wine lodges across the river.

Guimaraes and Braga | A Day Trip From Porto, Portugal
We had a great day exploring Guimaraes and Braga during our stay in Porto, Portugal. We tried to fit as much as we could into our day. Doing both Guimaraes and Braga in the same day is doable but it was verging on a bit too much. Keep that in mind if you are planning on doing both by public transport. If you have a car and drive, it would definitely be doable.
See the blog for our article on our day trip to Guimaraes and Braga from Porto, it has all the details of how we got from a to b, what we saw and food recommendations.

MyInspireProject EP8 - Porto, A Unique Legacy Between the Old World Charm & Modern Symphony
We arrive in Porto, the capital of North in Portugal. We step into the old-world charm and settle in at Vila Foz in Foz area. The old manor house preserves its majestic glamour and represents the revival of the high bourgeoisie culture of Porto. This 19th-century palatial building is the perfect home to begin of our journey.
Between the Atlantic and Douro River setting, we follow the fishermen into the historic center. From the cork crafts at the local market in Ribeira to Portuguese Custard Tart and pastry, we start the day with some lovely essences of Portugal.
The stunning Azulejo painted tiles at the exterior façade of Church of Souls depict the scenes from the lives of saints. After we experience the opulence of the golden Church of Sao Francisco, we come to Palacio da Balsa, an old stock exchange building in Neoclassical style for a royal retreat and exotic encounter within the mind-blowing Arab Room.
Through the iconic crimson staircase, we enter the fantasy world of Livraria Lello. Known as the inspiration for Harry Potter, this most beautiful bookstore has gathered numerous artists, academics and writers for more than a century.
While finish up the Baixa area, we come down to Douro River and cruise through the charming river banks. Then we head up to Torre dos Clerigos that dominates the entire landscape of the city. And yet, we could not forget to mention the famous Port wine. At Cockburns Celler in Gaia, an area on the other side of Douro river where the winemakers store the Port from the valley for exporting, we enjoy the full expression of Port and its spectrum. And through the trace of the wine-making history, we are ready to jump into our adventure in the wine country.
After two hours of driving, we finally arrive at the exclusive Quinta da Corte. Port is a rich wine from a rugged valley. For centuries, the only way to plant a vineyard was by building dry stone-wall terraces. These heroic tasks formed a dramatic and beautiful look of the Douro. After a fresh and homemade gourmet luncheon, we come to explore our design oriented casa, dated from the 19th century. The entire casa and wine cellars have been re-worked by renowned architect, Pierre Yovanovitch. It combines tradition, modernity and luxury. We get to taste the exquisite Ports and Tawny in the middle of bold architecture, abundant nature and works of art.
Follow the breathtaking wine country and impressive cultural landscape of the Douro, we hop on the river boat to experience the first wine region demarcated in the world. Whether it is rain or shine, we simply can not resist the magic of The Douro.
Then, we return to the modern world of Porto to relax in the peaceful and elegant sanctuary and spa at Vila Foz, to restore and balance our energy and senses.
We start the new day with a warm and welcoming lunch at Cantinho do Avillez, where the Traditional Portuguese Gastronomy meets with an international affair. Under the Portuguese sky, the pink Art-Deco Casa de Serralves and the museum make Serralves Park a destination for Portuguese and international contemporary art and culture.
Walking through the modern cityscape in Porto, we are impressed by the distinct polygon of Casa da Musica. Designed by architect Rem Koolhaas, the music hall is the first building in Portugal dedicated to music exclusively. It is a place for urban sensations and entertainment.
In the last evening, we step into a gastronomic playground at Mini Bar Porto. Created by the renowned chef Jose Avillez. the place offers an unforgettable and surprising gastronomic experience, where nothing is what it seems.
At the end, just like how we started this journey, we fell in love with saudade, the nostalgic feeling of Porto, all over again.

Is Douro Worth a Day Trip?
While visiting Portugal and more specifically Porto we took a day trip to the Douro region where they make port wine. This region is knowing to have the best port wine in the world. It takes about 1 hour from Porto to get to this region. It's straight East. The drive along the Douro river is supposedly the second most beautiful drive in the World Behind the California coast drive. This day was filled with wineries, food, and a boat ride. The wineries were beautiful and if you enjoy port wine it's really something you should consider. They explained in detail how port wine is produced and what is all involved. It was fascinating to find out that everything is done by hand. Lunch was an absolutely awesome experience. We learned that the Portuguese people often spend over an hour daily with colleagues are friends eating. We had fish and a traditional Portuguese dessert. After lunch we went on a river cruise down the Douro River. What stunning views and a great way to see the landscape in the Douro region. Supposedly in September and October it's gorgeous as the grapevines are changing colors. We finished off add another Winery and more explanation on how port wine is made. If you're in Porto don't miss a day in the Douro region. I can tell you it's one of the best days we've had while traveling the world.

Memorias do Porto
We had a great time back in November ´16. Portugal received us in a warm and charming city of Oporto. Loads of activities to do in the city and lots of walking. Culture and History mix in a multicultural scenario.
►Special Mention to CITY LOVERS TOURS and Bruno - Guide
----------------------------------------
Oporto is one of the major urban areas in Southern Europe. The city is divided into 15 civil parishes and considered a Gamma-level global city by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group.
Located along the hills overseeing the Douro River, it is a prominent historical centre. Awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1996, Oporto is the most livable cities in Portugal.

Porto in #3 World's Best Places to Visit
Porto has long been a hot destination for wine lovers — it's the go-to place to find the best of that sweet, tasty port wine. But this city by the sea has more to offer than vinho. Porto (or Oporto, as it's sometimes called) is an attractive European mini-metropolis on Portugal's northwestern coast where travelers can get their fill of culture and the outdoors. Travelers can visit the city's wealth of museums, admire its varied architecture and, of course, hit the beach.
The city earns its nickname Cidade das Pontes, or City of Bridges, from the six arches spanning the Rio Douro (Douro River), which runs along Porto's southern edge. Views of the Douro River are best enjoyed from the Dom Luís I Bridge, the most iconic of Porto's six structures. From here you can get a sense of Porto's unique charm, from its colorful UNESCO World Heritage historic district to the north to the neighboring town of Vila Nova de Gaia just south, where you'll find the region's infamous wineries. You could spend a long weekend or a week here strolling the city, discovering the contemporary art in the Serralves Foundation complex and appreciating the history behind Porto's old churches like the Sé and Igreja de São Francisco. No matter what you choose to see and do in this captivating city, you'll leave with an appreciation of Porto's diverse offerings, some great photos and, hopefully, a bottle or two of its best wine.

Vilamoura: a city trip with Algarve flavors - LUXE.TV
Modern, animated, sophisticated for some, Vilamoura is a charming little seaside resort located in the Algarve, in south Portugal.
Its sublime cliffs, perched picturesque villages, its many golf courses, and its sumptuous fine sandy beaches have all created the reputation of this destination with strong seductive qualities.
While groups of friends or young couples certainly appreciate its feverish night life, families and culture lovers will probably be tempted by the captivating history of the village and its region.

SKETCHING PORTUGAL A GOUACHE TOUR BY MIREIA GUBIANAS

SKETCHING PORTUGAL: A GOUACHE TOUR is the result of a five week long trip around this fascinating country. A route around Portugal through my drawings, created by applying the gouache technique to Urban Sketching. A book for travel and artwork lovers.
Hello! My name is Mireia Gubianas, I work as an actress and acting coach based in Barcelona. Travel is one of my greatest passions, I grab my suitcase and go out into the world whenever I get a chance. My other love is drawing. I started Urban Sketching in 2016, a practice based on live drawing to capture your surroundings in real time.
I actively participate in the sketching community of my city, going out to draw as often as my acting work allows me. Currently, I'm also curating a cycle of Urban Sketching exhibitions at Theater La Villarroel in Barcelona. Starting in April and up to June, the exhibit will feature some of the sketches included in the book.
On the summer of 2018 I had the opportunity to be a part of the International Urban Sketching Symposium in Porto. That experience, as well as my interest in developing the gouache sketching technique, both led me to cross one of the items off my bucket list: to travel throughout Portugal for five weeks.
As a result, I made over fifty sketches, and I'd like to self-publish a book with a selection of them, including drawings of my favourite locations and landscapes in Portugal. I hope you'll enjoy it!
