Walking in the Almere city centre. A city build on reclaimed land called the Flevopolder. The first house was finished in 1976 and became a municipality in 1984. It is the largest newly planned city in the Netherlands with a projected population of 350.000 in 2030.

I've been to Amsterdam several times and I keep exploring for new places to stay that are nice, cheap, and convenient for getting into the city. This time, I stayed in Almere, a city in Flevoland, which is a province in the Netherlands that did not exist before World War II. The Dutch created this entire province from reclaimed land over what used to be a shallow bay. In this video, I give a quick introduction to Almere and Flevoland, as well as a few tips for tourists looking to stay here.
I had a great experience at the Best Western Plus on the Almere Plaza, which is only about 100 meters from the station and a quick train ride to Amsterdam.

Van der Valk is a Dutch international hospitality chain run by the Van der Valk family. It is the largest Dutch hospitality chain, with more than 65 locations in the Netherlands and more than 15 in other countries. Walking around in the very good looking (I think) City Centre and the new residential area Duin in Almere Poort. Almere poort is the newest part of what is a new city itself, with the first building completed only in 2005. Although Almere is a planned city, Almere Poort was not in the original city plans, but is rather a result of revised urban planning in accordance to Almere's more recent development plans assuming much higher target population and more prominent role as a satellite urban centre to Amsterdam.

Voor de Kerstdagen van 2010 stond de Bobstartbaan geheel aangekleed in winterse stijl gedurende twee weken op een prominente plek in Almere City Mall. Dagelijks werd de attractie door honderden mensen bezocht en getest, en nog veel meer bezoekers konden genieten van de spectaculaire sportieve actie op deze unieke baan.
