Traveled to the City of Rocks National Reserve. This is on the old California Trail and is just a wonderful place. If you are a rock climber this is paradise as there is an unlimited amount of climbing available. You can camp in the reserve or at Castle Rocks State Park. Hiking, Backpacking, camping or climbing just a great adventure.

The City of Rocks National Reserve, also known as the Silent City of Rocks, is a United States National Reserve and state park lying 2 miles north of the south central Idaho border with Utah. It is widely known for its excellent rock climbing and rock formations.

Castle Rocks State Park is a public recreation area encompassing 1,692 acres in Cassia County, Idaho, United States. The state park is located in Big Cove at the base of Cache Peak in the Albion Mountains.
Evidence suggests that folks have been coming to Castle Rocks for nearly 9,000 years. Campsites are nestled among Idaho's largest pinyon pine forest on the east slope of the 7,500-foot Smoky Mountain.

Very small sample of what this large reserve park has to offer. Located in Southern Idaho this looks like an amazing place for both camping and rock climbing. I'd love to go back and explore it some more.

Located less than one hour south of Burley, City of Rocks National Reserve is one of Southern Idaho's best backcountry adventures. The 14,407-acre Reserve is situated at the south end of the Albion Mountains, and features towering granite pinnacles, fins, and domes.
Emigrants of the California Trail (1843-1882) describe the rocks here in vivid detail as a city of tall spires, steeple rocks, and the silent city. Today, this backcountry byway attracts rock climbers, campers, hikers, hunters, and those with the spirit of adventure. There's inspirational scenery, exceptional opportunities for geologic study, and remnants of the Old West awaiting your discovery.
Nearby Castle Rocks State Park exhibits similar scenic beauty, climbing, miles of hiking trails, mountain biking, horseback riding,and shaded picnicking beside Almo Creek. Castle Rocks offers 38 serviced campsites, yurts, lodge, and bunkhouse for overnight guests.
The visitor center for both the Reserve and State Park is located in the historic village of Almo. The center is open seven days a week from mid-April to mid-October, andTuesday through Saturday during the winter months.
The village of Almo was established in 1878, and remains an unincorporated community of deeply-rooted families of cattle ranching heritage. Basic services are available, such as fuel, groceries and camping supplies, restaurants, lodging, post office, and hot spring. nps.gov

Almo was established around a post office in 1881. It had previously been part of a ranch belonging to Myron B. Durfee and had often been considered to be in Utah. By 1890, 40 of the 55 families in the Almo vicinity belonged to the LDS Church, and most claimed English or Scandinavian ancestry.
