Memories of Old Miami Beach
I Love Brickell City Centre in Downtown Miami Florida : Ep.03
Lots of cool things planned for the next few months
So, I was able to get approval to work remote with my company and I decided to spend a few months in South Florida, a place I have wanted to explore more in depth. I had planned a fishing trip with some friends in the keys and my pop and I were also taking a Caribbean cruise. It didn’t make sense to book two round trip flights from Salt Lake City so I just stayed in a few airbnb rentals between trips. This also gave me plenty of weekend time to explore more of downtown Miami.
Arriving in Miami Florida for the first time and car rental fiasco
After traveling all day from Salt Lake City to Miami Florida I grabbed my bags and headed for the rental car terminal. Yes, you heard that right! The Miami Airport is so big they have a separate terminal for rental cars. I had booked a car on Expedia 6 months earlier and thought everything was fine. Well, come to find out the rental car company was now out-of-business and Expedia did not inform me. ;( So I jumped on Expedia and found another company and booked it. Fifteen minutes later a guy in a dirty white t shirt pulls up in an old car and takes me to this back alley rental car company. After haggling for 3 hours to get the rate I was quoted, I finally cancelled that reservation and had them take me back to the airport rental car terminal. From there I found Alamo had some good rates and within 10 minutes I had my rental car. Thank you Alamo. I also had already prepaid $100 for the previous rental car and Expedia would not refund my money. It took a credit card charge dispute to finally get the refund. Not good Expedia. Vet your vendors better.
The Brickell City Centre is impressive
Next, I took a short drive to the Apple store in downtown Miami at Brickell City Centre. Brickell is a beautiful area that is going through some redevelopment and it’s turning out really nice. I was blown away with how cool the Brickell City Centre was. Very modern and artistic. A nice contrast to the antiquated shopping malls of the 80s. I found the apple store and purchased a hard drive to store all the video content I would be capturing over the next few months. Then proceeded to explore the shopping center. I was impressed with all the high-end stores here. Attached to the Brickell City Centre is the upscale hotel east. I highly recommend a trip to see the skyline at the rooftop bar sugar.

1957 TOUR OF MIAMI BEACH FLORIDA FLORIDA'S HIGH SPOTS 84234
Support Our Channel :
This terrific vintage tour of Florida and Miami Beach features 1950s views that are full of nostalgia. Seen in this film is Lincoln Road, the Americana Hotel (The Sheraton Bal Harbour), Hialeah Park Race Track, a tourist attraction known as Parrot Jungle, a reptile farm, and the famed Marine Studios -- where the dolphin Flipper performed (now known as Marineland).
Marineland of Florida (usually just called Marineland), one of Florida's first marine mammal parks, is billed as the world's first oceanarium. Marineland functions as an entertainment and swim-with-the-dolphins facility, and reopened to the public on March 4, 2006 (charging the original 1938 admission price of one dollar). In 2011, the park was purchased by the Georgia Aquarium for a reported 9.1 million U.S. dollars.

Starting Point: Washington Avenue - Neighborhood: .
South Beach, also nicknamed SoBe, is a neighborhood in the city of Miami Beach, Florida, United States.
History
Before the days of Miami Vice, South Beach was considered a very poor area with a very high rate of crime. Today, it is considered one of the wealthiest and most prosperous commercial areas on the beach. Despite this, poverty and crime still exist in some isolated places surrounding the area.[9]
In 2009, Natalie O'Neill of the Miami New Times said, Until the 1980s, Miami Beach was a peculiar mix of criminals, Cubans, and little old ladies. Then the beautiful people moved in.[10] In the late 1980s, a renaissance began in South Beach, with an influx of fashion industry professionals moving into the area. In 1989, Irene Marie purchased the Sun Ray Apartments (famous for the chainsaw scene in Scarface) and opened Irene Marie Models - the first international full-service modeling agency in Florida. Many of the large New York-based agencies soon followed.
Thomas Kramer is credited with starting the construction boom in South Beach, driving the gentrification of the area. It is now a popular living destination for the wealthy. Condominium units in the upscale high rises sell for millions. There are a number of vocal critics of the developments. The high-rise and high-density buildings are derided as a concrete jungle. However, even critics concede that the development has changed the area into a pedestrian friendly, low-crime neighborhood.[11][12] Today
In both daytime and at nightfall, the South Beach section of Miami Beach is a major entertainment destination with hundreds of nightclubs, restaurants, boutiques and hotels. The area is popular with tourists from Europe, Israel and the entire Western Hemisphere, with some having permanent or second homes. The large number of European tourists results in South Beach's tolerance of the female monokini, aka topless sunbathing, despite it being a public beach.
South Beach's residents' varied backgrounds are evident in the many languages spoken. In 2000, 55% of residents of the city of Miami Beach spoke Spanish as a first language, while English was the first language for 33% of the population. Portuguese (mainly Brazilian Portuguese) was spoken by 3% of residents, while French (including Canadian French) was spoken by 2%, and German by 1%. Italian, Russian, Yiddish and Hebrew were all spoken by less than 1%.[13]
Another unique aesthetic attribute of South Beach is the presence of several colorful and unique stands used by Miami Beach's lifeguards on South Beach. After Hurricane Andrew, Architect William Lane donated his design services to the city and added new stops on design tours in the form of lifeguard towers. His towers instantly became symbols of the revived City of Miami Beach.

Miami Beach is a coastal resort city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States.
Image and Cultural Depictions
South Beach (also known as SoBe, or simply the Beach) is one of the more popular areas of Miami Beach. Before the TV show Miami Vice helped make the area popular, SoBe was under urban blight, with vacant buildings and a high crime rate. Today, it is considered one of the richest commercial areas on the beach, yet poverty and crime still remain in some places near the area.
Miami Beach, particularly Ocean Drive of what is now the Art Deco District, was also featured prominently in the 1983 feature film Scarface and the 1996 comedy The Birdcage.
The New World Symphony Orchestra is based in Miami Beach, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
Lincoln Road, running east-west parallel between 16th and 17th Streets, is a nationally known spot for outdoor dining, bicycling, rollerblading and shopping and features and galleries of well known designers, artists and photographers such as Romero Britto, Peter Lik, and Jonathan Adler
Miami Beach was incorporated on March 26, 1915. The municipality is located on a variety of natural and man-made barrier islands between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, the latter of which separates the Beach from Miami. The neighborhood of South Beach, comprising the southernmost 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2) of Miami Beach, along with downtown Miami and the Port of Miami, collectively form the commercial center of South Florida. As of the 2010 census, Miami Beach had a total population of 87,779. It has been one of America's pre-eminent beach resorts since the early 20th century.
In 1979, Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Art Deco District is the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world and comprises hundreds of hotels, apartments and other structures erected between 1923 and 1943. Mediterranean, Streamline Moderne and Art Deco are all represented in the District. The Historic District is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the East, Lenox Court on the West, 6th Street on the South and Dade Boulevard along the Collins Canal to the North. The movement to preserve the Art Deco District's architectural heritage was led by former interior designer Barbara Capitman, who now has a street in the District named in her honor.

Drive along Ocean Drive, South Beach Miami on a beautiful day
Early morning drive along Ocean Drive along Lummus Park and South Beach to the left and the world famous Art Deco buildings on the right hand side. The drive starts at the north end of Ocean Drive at 15th street and continues slowly down ten blocks to the 5th street.
The street is featured in lots of movies and TV shows. The Colony Hotel is often seen in photos from Miami, especially at night when its neon lights up the street. Another hotel that is often featured in photos from Miami is the Avalon Hotel where an old classic american car always is parked.
One of the most photographed buildings in USA is Casa Casuarina, the former home of the Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace, where he also was murdered. During the morning prior to the murder he had his ordinary morning coffee at the News Cafe, seen in this clip as well.
Clevelander is one of the most popular places along the street, and Mango’s Tropical Café might be one of the hottest.
The street is featured in the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
A few other well known buildings along Ocean Drive that can be seen in this clip Pelican, the Penguin,WinterHaven, the Century, Park Central Hotel, Hotel Victor, the Tides, the Betsy, the Z Ocean Hotel, Strand Ocean Drive, Congress Hotel, Beacon, Ocean Plaza, Crescent, Penguin Hotel, Cavalier and the Carlyle.
