I'm Gonna Float My Boat Right Back To Terre Haute
Written by Malcolm Scott in 1921. Scott worked for a while in New York, playing in big bands of the day. Not finding the success he had hoped for, he returned to Terre Haute and later graduated from the Indiana State Teacher’s College (now ISU) with a degree in music. The majority of his 40-year teaching career was spent at Gerstmeyer High School where he taught music and directed the band.
Scott’s song about Terre Haute was not the only contest winner he wrote. In 1931 his entry “Cheer for the Blue and White” was selected by the Song Book committee and became the first fight song for the Indiana State Teacher’s College. Scott also arranged “Dear Rose,” the school song of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Scott’s love for his hometown is evident in his lyrics: “Paris, France, New York or Chicago haven’t got a chance/You can’t compare them with that Indiana town of mine….” The sheet music for this song is part of a large collection held by the Vigo County Historical Museum. The collection spans many decades and includes other songs about Terre Haute. (excerpt from Historical Treasure article by Karen Crispin).

One approach would be a bank which simply buys an insurance company or an investment bank, keeps the original brands of the acquired firm, and adds the acquisition to its holding company simply to diversify its earnings. Outside the U.S. (e.g., in Japan), non-financial services companies are permitted within the holding company. In this scenario, each company still looks independent, and has its own customers, etc. In the other style, a bank would simply create its own brokerage division or insurance division and attempt to sell those products to its own existing customers, with incentives for combining all things with one company.

Terre Haute Rise and Resilience 30 Sec Promo
Terre Haute: Rise & Resilience is a story of the American experience. This program takes viewers through the history of Terre Haute, starting with its French colonial origin as high ground along the banks of the Wabash River. Post-revolutionary Terre Haute played host to some of the key players in the War of 1812, including William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor and the Native American Chief Tecumseh. Terre Haute today is a typical Midwestern city, a blue-collar community and a college town. It has survived bouts of political corruption, labor unrest, and hard-hitting economic setbacks, and remains resilient.
