Clark County Wetlands Park - VIDEO TOUR (Las Vegas, NV)
We decided to take the doggies for a walk around Wetlands. Unfortunately, the trails inside Wetlands do not allow dogs, but the outer area is ok. I was sa to see how much trash and rubbish is sitting in the river around the bridge, you would think (as people cannot control thenselves) that the government would clean this up. This place is one of very few places where you can see green grass (lol) in Las Vegas!

The Clark County Wetlands Park is the largest park in the Clark County, Nevada park system. The park is on the east side of the Las Vegas valley and runs from the various water treatment plants near the natural beginning of the Las Vegas Wash to where the wash flows under Lake Las Vegas and later into Lake Mead.
One purpose of the park is to reduce the environmental impact of the waste water and stormwater runoff leaving the drainage basin area, by building a constructed wetland. This is being accomplished by installing a series of water flow control structures such as dams and weirs and by creating ponds that together slow down the flow of the water, catching silt, and reducing the undercutting of the dirt walls that form the wash. As of June, 2005 nine of these structures were operational.
The sides of the wash are being stabilized by installing native plants and large pieces of demolished construction debris. Some of the native plants, especially those in areas of standing water, also help purify the water by removing various pollutants as the slow moving water provides these plants with nourishment. This method of purification is also called natural water polishing.
The second purpose of the park is education. The displays within the park show visitors how the wash looked before major settlement occurred in the valley and the impact people have had on the environment.
The park has a nature center with displays about the park's plants and animals. There are miles of walking paths.

Wetland's park
With the onset of Memorial Day weekend and the end of the school year coming, Clark County and community partners would like to remind youth and their parents that Clark County Wetlands Park is off-limits after sunset.
Since July 2011, Clark County has spent $182,300 to repair vandalism at the park including burned fences, graffiti and a destroyed bathroom at the Sunrise Trailhead. A 17-year-old boy also was killed and three others injured in a shooting that occurred near the park in September 2015.
In March, Commissioner Giunchigliani joined officials from Metro and other agencies to announce an inter-agency effort to crack down on crime in Clark County Wetlands Park. Partners include Clark County Park Police, Clark County School Police, Henderson Police, Nevada Highway Patrol, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Clark County Water Reclamation District, Clark County’s Department of Parks and Recreation, the Clark County Detention Center Graffiti Abatement Unit, Nevada State Senator Mark Manendo, Clark County School District Trustee Erin Cranor and community groups such as Clark County Wetlands Park volunteers and the Outside Las Vegas Foundation.
Clark County Wetlands Park is open from sunrise to sunset each day. Curfew for youth under age 18 is 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends and non-school days, unless accompanied by an adult.
Visitors and volunteers at Clark County Wetlands Park and residents living in the area are encouraged to call 3-1-1 to report any suspicious activity in the area, and to call 9-11 to report crimes in progress.
The public also is reminded to follow these rules:

This is a one man video tour of 3/4 of the walk around the Clark County Wetlands Park Nature Preserve. This was done 2012-07-08 Sunday. The temp was mid-90's Farenheit when I started and quickly rose to 112 degrees F or so by the end of the tour. This was my last Sunday of being 55 years old. I used a Zoom Q3HD Audio/Video Recorder. I ran out of battery at 3/4 of the tour, and didn't bring backup batteries. The sound is something that I am still getting used to monitoring, and I know about the quality, so don't even comment about the bad sound quality okay!?

Hiking Wetlands Park Nature Center Las Vegas Nevada
If you want to experience nature during your Vegas trip without taking too much time out of your day, the 2,900-acre Clark County Wetlands features quiet areas, desert animals, ponds and more.
The 210-acre Nature Preserve trail is one of the city's best-kept secrets. A favorite for wildlife viewing, the park is open from dawn to dusk. Follow trails along streams and keep your eye out for ponds and plants including willow, cottonwood trees and towering cattails.
Make sure you bring your camera: There's a good chance you'll see jack rabbits and an array of birds. There are even viewing areas where you can watch birds and other wildlife without disturbing them. Birds include the Cinnamon Teal Duck, American Coot, Ruddy Duck, Great Blue Heron and Green Heron, to name a few. There are also shade shelters and seating areas scattered throughout the trail if you need to rest.
Pets aren't allowed in Nature Preserve but if you did bring Fido, the Duck Creek Trails permit pets as long as they're on a leash. Located on Broadbent Boulevard (about half a mile from the Nature Preserve), Duck Creek also includes picnic areas, along with a bicycle and horseback trail.
We highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Flip-flops are not recommended, especially when you're walking through the terrain. Also, make sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water. The summer months can get scorching hot, so plan on going early in the morning or later in the evening.
The information center provides complimentary postcards, a map of the area, as well as pamphlets on the plants and animals that inhabit the park. Fun for all ages, you'll see plenty in just a couple of hours. Plus, you don't have to be a hiking expert to enjoy this type of beauty. And while the drive is only about 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, you'll feel miles away from the hype. FOLLOW MOUNTAIN DO
