We all love the holidays, but there are a few spots that really go above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to Christmas decorations. Take a look at some of the most festive places in the USA.
1. Silver Dollar City In Branson, Missouri
Silver Dollar City has been named by USA Today, CNN, and The Travel Channel as one of the country's best places to go during the holidays. There's a 5-story tall special effects tree, a light parade, a performance of A Christmas Carol, and heaps of other rides and attractions. An estimated 4 million lights are used.
2. Dyker Heights In Brooklyn, New York
Dyker Heights becomes Dyker Lights in December because the light displays attract more than 150,000 visitors every year. Some families in the neighborhood are known to adorn their yards with up to 30,000 lights.
3. Hampden In Baltimore, Maryland
The moment it gets cold outside, the lights go up and 34th street in Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood and transforms into a real Miracle on 34th street! The tradition started in 1967, which means this tradition has been around for a whopping 45 years.
4. Sunrise In Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Mark and Kathy Hyatt are one of America's most famous families during the holidays. Every year, they outfit their home on 11201 N.W. 14 Street with more than 130,000 holiday lights and figurines (a process which can take up to three months).
5. Warm Beach Camp In Stanwood, Washington
Warm Beach Camp not only has more than 1 million Christmas lights spread over 15 acres and Polar Express train rides, but it also offers pony rides, a petting farm, and Bruce The Spruce, the talking Christmas tree.
6. Peacock Lane In Portland, Oregon
The residents of Peacock Lane have been decorating their houses with lights since the 1920s, and they show no sign of slowing down. But truthfully, they don't actually have a choice: whenever a family buys a house on the lane, they sign a contract stating they acknowledge it is their duty to partake in the tradition.
7. The River Walk In San Antonio, Texas
The River Walk is a huge tourist attraction all year long but during the holidays it's known for hosting the Fiesta de las Luminarias. The area swells with cheer as 122,000 lights shine on the walkway, boats, and nearby buildings, and as many as 150,000 people have flocked down south from all over the world to experience the magic.
8. Clifton Mill In Ohio
Clifton Mill is known to bring its A game when it's time for holiday decorating: every year, the mill, the gorge, the riverbanks, trees and bridges are dressed up with more than (a whopping!) 3.5 million lights. And if you find yourself feeling famished while taking in the views, there are BBQ Pork Sandwiches available for purchase.
9. The Bellingrath Gardens In Theodore, Alabama
For the holidays, the 65 acres of The Bellingrath Gardens is the proud home to over 3 million lights and more than 950 displays. To pull off such an incredible feat, 7,700 extension cords, 100,000 twist ties, and 377,000 replacement bulbs are needed.
10. The Arizona Celebration Of Lights In Phoenix, Arizona
But in truth, nobody takes Christmas more seriously than the people of Phoenix: each year, a mile-long stretch of 99th Avenue is outfitted with more than a whopping 7 million lights. And to make things even sweeter, a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Salvation Army and other charities.

The Oldest Windmill in the United States | The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation
The Farris windmill is said to be the oldest windmill in the United States. It was built in the mid-1600s and operated in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Farris family ran it for three generations, starting in 1782. The wind moved the sails of this windmill to operate the grain milling machinery inside. The stone first floor was added at Greenfield Village.

The perfect Christmas tree is proving ever more elusive

There's a tight supply of Christmas trees this holiday season in America which means some shoppers will be paying more or searching longer for that perfect pine.
Analysts say the shortage has been compounded by many growers going out of business and the effects of climate change.
STORYLINE:
North Americans may need to trim back their Christmas tree expectations this year.
A tight supply means some shoppers will be paying more and searching longer for that perfect Christmas tree this holiday season.
The yuletide market imbalance was created a decade ago when a glut of Christmas trees and the Great Recession combined to drive many growers out of business.
Now the supply is tight and it takes eight to 10 years - the time needed to grow a Christmas tree - to boost the supply.
Larger retailers are doing just fine, officials say. It's the smaller charitable organizations, school groups, and mom-and-pop operators that have had to scramble for trees.
Scott Sanchez, is co-owner of Mr. Jingles Christmas Trees in downtown Los Angeles: 10 years back during the economic crisis, a lot of the farmers lost their land and another big problem was the big box stores when they entered the market they were setting the price for trees and really over buying and all the labor and things that go into getting these trees down to their destinations, it just wasn't making sense for the little guys, that's why. They were over supplying a lot of the big box stores, the Home Depots, Walmarts, trees were going to waste and not being able to get the prices that need to go to grow a tree that really takes a foot every year.
We're seeing higher tree prices, up 30 percent from 10 years ago. Labor prices are higher, and finding locations for pop-up Christmas tree lots is booming, non-existent especially in Los Angeles due to all the development. Even people that were able to rent the lots a few years back aren't able to afford the pricing of what they would charge right now to run a location for a month. A main thing is there was also climate change, the seedlings are having a tough time growing. When they're in a drought up there, it really affects the growth of the tree, he adds.
Supply and demand problems are nothing new. Like other crops, Christmas trees are a commodity that goes through cycles from too few trees to an oversupply.
But regional factors are also exacerbating the problem.
For example, a spring frost damaged trees at some farms in Canada's Nova Scotia, choking off some supply in the Northeast.
Some Canadian farms in New Brunswick are buried under snow from recent storms, making it difficult for them to get trees onto trucks for shipment.
A shortage of Fraser trees, the most popular on the East Coast, had some North Carolina buyers scrambling to find balsam firs in New England.
In Oregon, some people are taking Fraser fir trees from the East instead of noble firs that are the most popular tree on the West Coast.
Frank Mottek, is a senior money anchor on all-news station KNX 1070 Newsradio, Los Angeles: Demand is very very high so this is a situation fo supply and demand, supply is very very low and demand is very very high, the national unemployment rate is at a near 50 year low, people are willing to spend. Looks like this could be a record spending season and people are ready to spend on Christmas trees and looks like they will have spend more this year to get the trees they want.

William McConnell, Celebration of Life Video Tribute
William R. McConnell, 78, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Community Hospice House on September 6, 2016 following an 11-month battle with cancer.
Born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 2, 1938, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Linnie Alice (Yockel) McConnell and his step-mother, Deene McConnell. From childhood, he was raised by his grandma and grandpa Yockel in Peoli.
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Port Washington High School. His Purple Rider basketball team was the only Port Washington team to make it out of the county tournament. After graduating high school, he began working at Superior Clay. He later worked at Alsco, where he eventually became president of the union. His experience at Alsco groomed him for his position as an arbitrator for the United Steelworkers of America.
