Top attractions of Victoria BC and Seattle - Travel diary
Travel video vlog about our trip to Seattle in the United States and then onto Victoria in B.C. Canada.
We traveled to Victoria and Seattle during the holiday of 04 July. We first flew to Seattle on the night of 03 July and stayed in a hotel for that night. Then, early next morning we left our hotel and headed to the pier to catch our ferry / clipper from Seattle to Victoria.
Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, sits on the craggy southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s known for outdoor activities. We stayed in Victoria for two nights exploring its top attractions such as Craigdarroch Castle mansion, Butchart Gardens, Fisherman’s Wharf and others.
Victoria is a fairly small city that can be easily explored in a day, but two days is recommended if you want to have a more relaxed trip and don’t want to rush too much while exploring the sights.
The ferry from Seattle from Victoria takes approximately 3 hours and it is very comfortable. It departs very early in the morning (at 07:30am), and you arrive in Victoria just before lunchtime.
Some of the places we visited in Victoria that you can see in this video are, on our first day: British Columbia Parliament (00:16), Chinatown (00:39), Craigdarroch Castle (00:51), Fairmont Empress Hotel (01:03), Fisherman’s Wharf (01:21). Then, on our second day in the morning we visited: Beacon Hill Park (01:26) by bicycle, then in the afternoon we visited Butchart Garden (01:50) and also had a high tea in a restaurant inside the garden.
After two days exploring Victoria, we took the 11:00 am morning Clipper back to Seattle, and had a couple of days exploring downtown before heading back home.
Seattle, a city on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, and contains thousands of acres of parkland. Washington State’s largest city, its home to a large tech industry, with Microsoft and Amazon headquartered in its metropolitan area.
The main attractions of Seattle you can see in this video are: The international fountain (03:46), The futuristic Space Needle - a 1962 World’s Fair legacy, is its most iconic landmark (03:47), Kerry Park from where you can see panoramic views of downtown (03:54), Farmers Market (04:05), “The gum wall” which is an alleyway in Post Alley under Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle (04:11), and then views from the top of the Space needle building (04:16)

Bainbridge Ferry [Seattle to Bainbridge Island] Drive Washington 4K USA
4K UHD Ferry Ride - Bainbridge Island WA - Seattle Day Trip - Kitsap Peninsula
Drive on to the Bainbridge Island ferry from the Colman dock terminal at the downtown Seattle waterfront. We take a ride aboard the Washington State Ferry System. This is the most popular ferry route in the western United States. Bainbridge locals refer to the ferry as 'the boat' and thousands of passengers walk/bike/drive aboard to commute to Seattle daily.
The regular ferry was out of service on the day we traveled. This smaller boat is the WSF M/V Walla Walla. It was constructed in 1973 and rebuilt in 2003. It is a Jumbo class ferry that regularly serves the Seattle to Bremerton route. It can carry 188 vehicles and 2,000 passengers.
The Seattle terminal is also in the process of being rebuilt and much construction can be seen from the ferry waiting area.
We hope you enjoy!

The Seattle–Bremerton ferry is a ferry route across Puget Sound between Seattle and Bremerton, Washington. Since 1951, the route has primarily been operated by the state-run Washington State Ferries system, currently the largest ferry system in the United States. Kitsap Transit also runs passenger-only fast ferries service on the route.
The Seattle–Bremerton ferry route was once known as the Navy Yard route. Before ferry service, the route was served by steamships and steamboats, such as the Inland Flyer. The sternwheeler Bailey Gatzert, once considered one of the most prestigious vessels to operate on Puget Sound and the Columbia River, was converted to an automobile ferry and as such became the first ferry to run on the Seattle-Bremerton route. Another vessel to run on the route was the unique streamlined ferry Kalakala.
From 1986 to 2002, Washington State Ferries operated passenger-only service on the Bremerton route using specialized high-speed boats. After the service was cancelled, Kitsap Transit contracted with private companies to operate a similar service for several years, and later debuted its own service, Kitsap Fast Ferries, on July 10, 2017.
The route from Seattle departs from the Washington State Ferry Terminal on the central Seattle waterfront. Assigned to the route as of July 2017 were the Super-class ferry Kaleetan and Olympic Class ferry Chimacum

Last Voyage aboard the Princess Marguerite II
In the days when the SS Princess Marguerite II still sailed between Victoria B.C. and Seattle in Washington State, I took what would be my one and only voyage on this stately vessel from another age. The ship included special features found on opulent ocean liners, including a grande staircase, ballroom, formal dining room, cocktail lounge, spacious and comfortable lounges, wide promenade decks, and private staterooms. She could accommodate 2,000 passengers and up to 60 vehicles on her car deck. Sadly In 1989 the Princess Marguerite II, by then the last of the coastal steamers, was withdrawn from service. As scrap she was valued at $750,000.
Seattle Ferry Ride to Bainbridge Island
Riding the Washington State Ferries from Seattle to Bainbridge Island is one of the most scenic and affordable day excursions. Not only do you get amazing views of the Seattle skyline, but Bainbridge Island is also very pleasant to walk around.
The trip takes just thirty-five minutes. The round-trip fare for adult passengers is just $8.50 (2019). It's a great alternative to a Seattle Harbour Cruise! You can take your vehicle if you wish. However, the town centre on Bainbridge Island is within walking distance of the ferry terminal.
There are two routes operating from Seattle Ferry Terminal to Bremerton and Bainbridge Island. The route from Seattle to Bainbridge Island is the busiest in the Washington State Ferry network with 6.4 million passengers annually.
The Seattle to Bainbridge Island route is operated by the MV Tacoma and the MV Wenatchee. They are both classified as Jumbo Mark II class vessels, the largest in the WSF fleet. Each is capable of carrying up to 2,500 passengers and 202 vehicles at a speed of 18 knots. They are also the second longest double-ended ferries in the world, built between 1997-1999 at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle.
One amenity that I truly enjoy aboard the Washington State Ferries is the on-board galley and cafeteria, which serves up popular Washington State products including:
-Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream
-Tim's Cascade Style Chips
-Ivar's Acres of Clams Chowder
-Beecher's Mac and Cheese
-Whidbey Island Ice Cream Bars
Overall, the Washington State Ferries operate 10 routes serving 20 points around Puget Sound and Canada. It is the largest ferry system in the United States and fourth-largest in the world with a fleet of 23 vessels carrying 24 million passengers annually.
Enjoy your Bainbridge Island Day Trip! It is without a doubt one of the most popular day trips from Seattle. The Seattle Ferry Terminal is located at 801 Alaskan Way. Be sure to take advantage of the Seattle Free Waterfront Shuttle service that offers a stop within walking distance of the ferry terminal.
