Public wash-house Liverpool (1959) | BFI National Archive
Admire the industriousness of the Liverpool women who transport huge bundles of laundry to and from the local wash-house every week, crammed into old prams or balanced skilfully on their heads. The wash-house doubles as a social hub for the women, with a cafe and creche facilities. At the time of filming, this one in the Pontack Lane area was one of 13 remaining original public wash-houses in the city, although new more modernised buildings were under construction.Liverpool's last working wash-house closed in 1995.
The peppy documentary not only looks at the modern wash-house, but introduces the story of Kitty Wilkinson, 'the Saint of the Slums', who pioneered the public wash-house movement in Liverpool during the 1832 cholera epidemic. John Abbot Productions, who made the film, specialised in sponsored non-fiction films from the late 1950s to the late 1970s.

Band perform, 1940's - Film 18142
Piece of music certainly American, probably Hawaii, hence title of sheet of music.
Although very Glenn Miller in style the band is very formally dressed without fills . This leads me to believe they are a British band of the 1940's.
Clip starts with close-up of a piece of sheet music. The word trumpet appears at the top and the title of the piece is 'Tahu Wahi Wahi',
Close up of drumsticks beating snare drum. camera moves away to wind section of band. All male wearing evening suits. Three play trumpet and one trombone. Camera moves forward to the saxophone players, four in total, male and in evening suits. Cut to camera shot of front of band. Three men foreground the saxophonists and stand. One has an accordion, one a violin, the other a trumpet. The violinist wears a white tuxedo. They play their instruments and the camera cuts to the trumpet players when their piece is played. Back to a close-up of the violinist fiddling. The double-bass player can be seen in the background. As the camera moves backwards, the harp player comes into shot, then swiftly moving to a close-up of the accordionist. Back to a close-up of the drums being played, then the hands of a pianist on the piano keys. The camera moves swiftly to the guitarist's hand strumming his guitar. The standing trumpet player then takes centre stage before the camera moves to the accordion, then back to the trumpeter, switching to the violinist and harpist. The camera then cuts to the snare drums being beaten. Angled shot of the trumpet players before returning to the beaten snare drums. Another angled close up shot, this time the saxophonists and the camera drops to their foot-tapping shoes. Frontal shot as the three trumpet players stand to play in unison then the angled saxophonist shot. The dextrous fingers of the pianist on the ivory keys makes a re-run before swiftly cutting to the saxophones. More piano, tapping feet, piano, saxophone, then the standing trumpet players as the music's tempo increases. The camera then withdraws to include almost the whole band as the violinist has now adopted the bandleader role.

A few young trees stand on green in front of estate.
Goldcrest & Wren - in close-up
Just a few snippets of footage of a Wren and a Goldcrest caught visiting a bird bath. When the (rather titchy itself) Robin pops in for a cameo, I hope you will then appreciate the small size of these two species.
The Goldcrest is Britain's smallest bird, and only the similar (but much rarer) Firecrest is a similar size. The ubiquitous Wren, despite being a dull brown and only a little larger, is much more regularly seen... but this will be more due to its explosive and loud song, more noticeable habits and extremely common presence in nearly all UK habitats!
Stabbed: Britain's Knife Problem (Crime Documentary) | Real Stories
Featuring discussions with police, local politicians, teachers, students, and survivors, this powerful, hard-hitting documentary reveals the truth about knife crime in Britain.
Shopkeepers sell lethal weapons to children; students confess that they feel naked if they don’t have a knife; and closed circuit televisions are often the only witnesses to fatal stabbings. It seems as though anybody can become a victim of knife crime these days, or is it mostly media hype? If it isn’t, do the police have the situation under control? Stabbed delves deeply into this devastating social problem for answers.
