VE Day in Clydebank: Dalmuir Park Gala Day (06/05/1995)
1995 was the 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, two events, which, in 1945, finally brought World War II to an end.
Like many other towns and cities across the United Kingdom, Clydebank, in West Dunbartonshire in Scotland, commemorated the two events with a gala day (in Dalmuir Park), parades, and services at the Town Hall, and in Duntocher and Old Kilpatrick.

A film of short films, featuring nine children and teenagers, who lived in Clydebank, Old Kilpatrick and Dumbarton, at the time of the Clydebank Blitz of 13 and 14 March 1941.
Director of Post-Blitz Clydebank and The Clydebank Blitz: Beneath The Embers, Iain McGuinness, talks to John MacLeod, a journalist for the Scottish Daily Mail, and the author of a new book, River of Fire: The Clydebank Blitz.
The interview was recorded on the site of the former 'Holy City,' in Clydebank, which was heavily bombed on 13 and 14 March 1941.
John speaks about growing up in nearby Scotstounhill, in the 1970s, in a house that still bore the scars of bomb damage; his motivation to write the book; the impact of censorship, from WWII, up until the present day (and the resulting national lack of awareness of the Clydebank Blitz); and his thoughts on the commemoration of the 70th anniversary, in March 2011.
(A wee update; my overzealous editing has led to a factual error, where I ask: Earlier that day, you gave a talk at Clydebank Library. During your talk, you spoke about how Churchill, and the Queen, never visited Clydebank after the bombings, like they did in places such as London and Coventry. Why was this, do you think? I should, of course, say 'the King and Queen.')

I can be seen, at 02:05, as an 11-year-old (the only boy in that particular group of schoolchildren)!

Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is situated on the River Leven, four miles north-west of Dumbarton. The town's traditional industries, most importantly cotton manufacturing, bleaching and printing, have been phased out. The town was redeveloped in the 1970s with a new town centre layout and traffic system.
Local landmarks include Christie Park, and the Fountain in the town centre. Lomond Galleries on North Main Street is a former car factory with an impressive dome and an even more impressive marble entrance hall and staircase. It was originally built in 1906 as the Argyll Motor Works, for Argyll Motors Ltd. A carving above the entrance shows one of the company's cars. After the car production ceased in 1914 it was used by the Admiralty for the manufacture of torpedoes, which were test-fired in Loch Long, and in the early 1970s was the scene of the Plessey sit-in.
Alexandria sits on the former A82 main road between Glasgow and Loch Lomond. There are regular bus services on the route and the town has a railway station on the rail line between Balloch and Glasgow Queen Street.
The town is reputed to be the only UK town with a railway station and a pub in the middle of a roundabout. A. J. Cronin's uncle owned a pub in Bridge Street. Alexandria Library is located on Gilmour Street.

Metropolitan is a gift shop in the Clyde Shopping Centre in Clydebank. The owner wanted a short film, for his website, which would show the range and volume of dazzling goodies he sells. The video is the story of a trip through the welcoming store.
I used a steadicam device as well as a dolly slider and panning tripod to record the footage. In post-production I selected the right footage, blended the elements together and adjusted colour and lighting. The last part was to include library music which is up-beat without being intrusive.

Stories of Scotland Queen Mary and World War 2

This engaging memoir (released Jan 2012) might be the last comprehensive voice to be heard from a survivor of Nazi bombing in World War 2. Those who lived through that era are few; and so are their stories. It is timely.
Seen through the eyes of a child, and revealing a remarkable memory, this unique book gives a view of pre-war, wartime, and post-war Britain, including he sight of Clydebank's greatest achievement, the RMS Queen Mary, going down the river Clyde in 1936. Clydebank was crucial to the Allied cause.
The book depicts a happy evacuation, and parents who recalled the child to the danger zone in time for the Clydebank Blitz. Homeless now, the family escaped with their lives.
A few months later, the mother deserted the family.
People who are important to the child are highlighted and the eventual end to World War 2 is celebrated. The child, now a teenager, finds romance.

This is at my new college I will be going to a few times before I become a full time student there
This is a Stannah hydraulic lift, it’s quite boring but the floor arrangement is in half floors which is interesting. Also it has light up Dewhurst key switches which is really cool!
This lift is locked out and requires a Dewhurst 827 key to call it because they want to reserve the lift for disabled people.
