Long hidden on the fringe of Florida's Gulf coast and overlooked by developers until well into the 1880s, Naples' catalyst for settlement finally arrived forty years later when two rival railroads rolled into town within ten days of each other.
Set in Naples' restored Seaboard Air Line Railway passenger station, the Naples Depot Museum welcomes visitors back to the railroading boom days of the Roaring Twenties and explains how generations of Southwest Floridians used technology and transportation to conquer a vast and seemingly impenetrable frontier.
Seminole dugout canoes, a mule wagon, antique swamp buggy, restored rail cars and exciting interactive exhibits tell the story of how trade and travel transformed Naples from a napping village of 300 souls into today's glittering Gulf coast resort.
The Naples Depot Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is conveniently located in downtown Naples.

Florida Travel: Experience Naples & Marco Island in 60 Seconds
Perched on the Gulf of Mexico in southwest Florida, Naples is well known for its high-end shopping, world-class culture, and sophisticated dining. But Naples is also an affordable family destination that appeals to nature lovers and beach aficionados. Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South are the focal points for Naples shopping in the historic downtown area, with numerous art galleries, chic clothing boutiques, and home decor shops. When it comes time for lunch or drinks and dinner, enjoy your meal with a water view, whether you choose a swank Naples beachfront resort or a funky bayside bar.
Start planning your next trip to Naples here:
Located a short ride from the Florida Everglades and close to Naples, Marco Island is the largest and only developed land in Florida's Ten Thousand Islands. This Gulf Coast retreat offers luxury resorts, beautiful beaches and unspoiled parks. The tropical climate of Marco Island is a considerable attraction to the area, with the water being the next major attraction. Collier Seminole State Park, just a few miles from Marco Island, has primitive camping, canoeing, fishing, boating, picnic grounds, and a mile-long nature walk. Narrated boat tours of the park run on a daily basis. Briggs Nature Center features a half-mile boardwalk where Marco Island visitors can observe wildlife in its natural habitat. Also available: shelling excursions and self-guided canoe trips.

More than 80 rogue reptiles wrangled over 10 days of the 2020 Python Bowl in Florida - Live News 24

Videos can use content-based copyright law contains reasonable use Fair Use ( It took just 10 days to wrangle 80 Burmese pythons from the clutches of the Florida Everglades, where they’re decimating wildlife. Because everyone loves a challenge, state wildlife officials turned the effort into a game and named it the 2020 Python Bowl — in part to seize the attention afforded to Miami given the upcoming Super Bowl. More than 750 people competed from 20 states in the annual Florida Python Challenge that wrapped up on Jan. 19. The 10-day event was sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and South Florida Water Management District, whose officials also announced winners for longest python captured and the largest number of snakes brought in during the competition. The top python catcher was Mike Kimmel, who won for capturing eight of the beasts. Kristian Hernandez won rookie grand prize for snagging six of the invasive reptiles, the FWC said in a statement announcing the winners. Others removed six, four and three, respectively. The longest one brought in was 12 feet, 7.3 inches, a prize picked up by Tom Rahill, with Hernandez winning again for his 11-foot, 6.5-inch-long serpent. Other top lengths were 10 feet, 7 inches long; and two that measured 11 feet, 0.8-inches. Weight was another class, with the heaviest being 62 pounds, and others weighing 49.4 pounds, 35.9 pounds, 48.1 pounds and 49.4 pounds. The 80 snakes’ combined weight was 1,406 pounds, the Naples Daily News reported, and would stretch 674 feet if they were laid head to tail. The goal in turning python hunting into a sport was both to reduce the population of the invasive species and to draw attention to the threat the animals pose, wildlife officials said. Officials were also hoping to capitalize on the attention already on Miami because of the upcoming Super Bowl. “The national and international attention around Super Bowl LIV brought incredible public awareness to the danger invasive Burmese pythons pose and the importance of Everglades restoration,” South Florida Water Management District Executive Director Drew Bartlett said in a statement. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Burmese pythons populate more than 1,000 square miles of southern Florida, including all of Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve and Collier-Seminole State Forest, where they are “one of the most concerning invasive species” in the Everglades. “Pythons compete with native wildlife for food, which includes mammals, birds, and other reptiles,” the USGS says. “Severe mammal declines in Everglades National Park have been linked to Burmese pythons.” In the southernmost part of the Everglades, the raccoon population has dropped 99.3%, the opossums 98.9% and bobcats 87.5% since

Florida Travel: Welcome to The Barnacle Historic State Park, Coconut Grove
Just 15 minutes from South Beach and 10 minutes from Downtown Miami, Coconut Grove is known as one of the hippest, most energetic, most inviting corners of South Florida, but it also hides a secret from the past. Follow a narrow path through the hardwood hammocks and you'll come across The Barnacle Historic State Park located on the shores of Biscayne Bay. The historic state park was once home to Ralph Middleton Munroe, who preserved the forest on his land and, as a result, the property contains many large, old trees. Learn more here:

Cycling around Fakahatchee Strand in Florida Everglades
????♀️???????????????????????? Have you experienced the subtropical wilderness of The Fakahatchee Strand? The linear swamp forest is a nice place to explore 'Old Florida' by bicycle. Ride along old logging tramways into the tropical hammock. The Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is the largest state park in Florida and is home to a variety of plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else in the continental United States. It is the orchid and bromeliad capital of the continent and the home to Florida panthers, white-tailed deer, black bears, alligators, and much more!
Janes Memorial Scenic Drive is the main access point to the majority of hiking and biking trails in the park. Janes can be accessed from State Road 29 and is an 11-mile dirt road extending from the park visitor center in Copeland to Fakahatchee's border with Picayune Strand State Forest. All of the trails in the park are cleared tram roads that were created when the land was logged in the 1940s through the 1960s. The two most popular hiking trails are the East and West Main trams. The West Main tram is located 4 miles down Janes from the visitors center. The trail passes through 2 miles of strand swamp before opening up into a beautiful marle prairie. The East Main tram is located 2 miles further down Janes and extends 10 miles, north to south, connecting Janes to the Jones Grade trail at the north end of the park. The East Main tram is great for hiking and biking and passes through the central slough, one of the most beautiful places in the park.
