Collins Barracks is a former military barracks in the Arbour Hill area of Dublin, Ireland. The buildings are now the National Museum of Ireland, Decorative Arts and History. Housing both British armed forces, and Irish army garrisons through three centuries, the barracks were the oldest continuously occupied example in the world.
Originally called simply The Barracks, and later The Royal Barracks, the name was changed to Collins Barracks when handed over to the Irish Free State in 1922.
It was here at The Royal Barracks that thousands of Irishmen came to volunteer to join the British army at the out break of the First World War.

This is the first time a Buddhist representative has been included in Ireland's National Day of Commemoration. Rev. Myozan Kodo Kilroy (Zen Buddhism Ireland and the Irish Buddhist Union) reads an edited version of a prayer by the 8th century Buddhist monk Shantideva. The National Day of Commemoration was held at Collins Barracks, Dublin, Ireland, on 14th July, 2019. It is a commemoration for all Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars, or on service with the United Nations.

1920 Burning of the Barracks
Directed and edited by Marcus Howard. Some of the fiercest fighting took place during the 1919-21 War of Independence with the burning of Hollyford, Drangan and Rearcross. This film has actual footage of those who took part in some of these attacks. Learn about the story of Ernie O'Malley, Sean Treacy, Seamus Robinson, Jim O'Gorman and Dan Breen as we take you through the attacks step by step. This film is a tribute to Tipperary historian John Hassett and his family. Numerous actors are in this film to accompany the interviews of those who fought for Ireland's freedom. As well as featuring original interviews, the films also features historians such as Liz Gillis and Kieran McMullen.

Jadotville Day 2018 Collins Bks Dublin
The Siege of Jadotville took place in September 1961, during the United Nations intervention in the Katanga conflict in Congo-Léopoldville, in Central Africa. A Company, 35th Battalion (UN service) of the Irish Army ONUC contingent was attacked by Katanga Gendarmerie troops loyal to the Katangese Prime Minister Moise Tshombe. The lightly armed Irish soldiers, besieged in Jadotville (modern Likasi), resisted Katangese assaults for six days as a relief force of Irish, Indian and Swedish troops unsuccessfully attempted to reach the Irish force.
The outnumbered Irish company was eventually forced to surrender after ammunition and supplies were exhausted, but not before inflicting heavy casualties on the Katangese and their mercenaries. They were held as prisoners of war for approximately one month, with no loss of life.
