Torbay (Torquay, Brixham and Paignton), South Devon.
Travelogue along the 20 mile stretch of South Devon coast presents attractions of Torquay, Brixham and Paignton as well as some villages along the coast. Each town is presented with the usual travel shots, and to make Torbay more attractive, famous people and various events are presented. In Torquay, where international entertainer Max Bygraves chose to stay, one can watch waiters' race at Hotels Day. Waiters are seen racing with trays along the street.
In Brixham, where composer Lionel Bart stays, firm tradition of Elizabethan age is kept. Vintage cars are exhibited, replica of Golden Hind is anchored in harbour and Brixham's fishing fleet provides excellent food for tourists. Bikini babes and kids playing with sand are seen at Paignton beach.
The 'buzziest' place, after all, is Torquay. Lovely Cockington village for romantics, golf course where one rubs shoulders with celebrities (Val Doonican, Sid James and Arthur Askey on golf course) or mingle through the crowd at Carnival Time.
BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.
British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984. At the end of the day, I managed to get into a little bit of trouble for Notting Hill Carnival 2018, Europe's biggest Caribbean carnival adventure... I am really a lover, but sometimes a girl has to be a fighter...
Well, watch for yourself what type of things happen when the liquor conquers your (= my) head . . . . Craziness!!
This year for Notting Hill Carnival 2018 it was pouring on one of the big days: Carnival Sunday. You gotta do, what you gotta do, so we had to get.... a raincoat. Luckily I found a pink one that stole everyone's attention (LOL, not really). It did help me cover up my identity, though, when I was whining on these UK police men. Although I don't think they wanted to lock me up for it because I saw how they were smiling.
The road march for Notting Hill Carnival is so long, you literally spend half of the day passing all bands to find the band you are looking for (which in our case was COLORS). It sounds like work, but it is actually the most fun to jump up with all kinds of people.
I wish I didn't have to run for my life at the end of Carnival Sunday, but at least the Notting Hill Carnival road march had already ended, you know your girl has FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)!

Cosmopolitan Arts presents - ‘Leicester’s Cosmopolitan Carnival’
Saturday 12th August 2017 – 2.00pm-10.00pm
Leicester city centre: Jubilee Square, High Street, Clock Tower, Humberstone Gate and Highcross Leicester.
DAZZLING FREE COSMOPOLITAN ARTS FESTIVAL AND SPECTACULAR GRAND FINALE PERFORMANCE CELEBRATING LEICESTER AS ONE OF BRITAIN’S MOST CULTURALLY DIVERSE CITIES
Cosmopolitan Carnival 2pm-10.00pm on Saturday 12th August 2017, will
take over the city centre to celebrate Leicester’s vibrant cultural
mix through the arts.
BBC Radio Leicester’s Kevin Ncube and Andrea Bennett, will compeer the main stage in Jubilee Square while an impressive line up of live music, dance and art will take place in various locations across the city. Artists include Leicester’s very own sensational ‘Mahalia’. ‘Sola Rosa’ a band from New Zealand, who won best iTunes R&B album 2014, will be performing as part of their European tour. ‘Nia Soul’ will be performing so-soulful tunes and ‘Sarah Bird Band’ will wow the crowd with amazing vocals and natural talent. London based band ‘Code Ninety’ will inject a pop music element to the stage and ska will be provided courtesy of local band ‘Mixtones’, who created and performed a song for the Leicester based film ‘Beverley’. ‘Sons Of’ will perform funky tunes and the awesome Tony Webster Band will play lively Latin jazz. There will be a children’s area with free arts workshops and comedy performances. A range of free arts workshops will also be available including Chinese calligraphy, origami and dragon making and lantern making plus much more.
The grand finale performance will be ‘Cosmocular’ in Jubilee Square 8.30pm – 9.30pm, conceived, project managed and artistically directed by ‘Amanda Leandro’ of ‘Cosmopolitan Arts’. This dazzling work will involve a fantastic large-scale animation dance piece and dazzling light show companied by an amazing live music performance created by lead composer & music director Richard Everitt and co-composed by Carol Leeming. Vocals will come from Leicester’s very own Mr Shay’ and Carol Leeming, both of whom have specially written new pieces of work for this event. The ensemble includes Leicester’s best musicians including ‘Will Todd’ from ‘By The Rivers’ on bass, the highly acclaimed pianist ‘Mike Sole’, skilful drummer ‘Malcolm D'Sa’, well known jazz saxophonist ‘Marcus Joseph’, heavenly harp by ‘Miranda Booth’, exceptional tabla by ‘Hari Trivedi’, awesome trumpet by ‘Julie Maxwell’ and digital music production and live turntablism by Psykomantus. This dazzling and spectacular performance is a unique one off experience, showcasing Leicester artists alongside national artists, this is one not to be missed!
There will be a citywide talent show stage at the Clock Tower compeered by well known artist “The Orator’. Judges on the day are ‘Donna Philips’ from EAVA FM and Marcus Joseph, nationally known musician, the finalists will battle it out to become Leicester’s most talented – many prizes are up for grabs including a day at a recording studio and family tickets to ‘360 Play Leicester’.
The Humberstone Gate stage will host a vast array of cultural music, comedy and spoken word, including shining star ‘Lil T’ who will perform his well known songs, ‘Euphoria’ a seven piece Chinese folk group. ‘Hari Trivedi’ will perform amazing Tabla music, ‘Ian Hall’ and ‘Lindsay Warnes-Carroll’ will bring side splitting comedy to the event, ‘Jesse Wright’ will wow the crowd with her amazing acoustic performance, ‘Calvin Jeffry’ will sing songs that will lift peoples sprits, ‘Stanza’ will perform positive hip hop tunes and ‘Mr Shay’ will liven up the crowd with spoken word and mc’ing.
On the High Street there will be an exciting blend of activities and performances, including a vibrant dance performance area hosting every imaginable genre of dance. There will be a humorous street theatre, African drumming workshops, brass band performances from the ‘Southfields Concert Brass Band’ and activities from Talent Match.
There will also be an art gallery in the Highcross Leicester which will exhibit a hodt of local art.
