The 121212 Sandy Relief concert was held on Dec 12, 2012 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. It took place in reply to Hurricane Sandy, which ruined a major part of North-eastern United States, the Caribbean and the Mid-Atlantic at the end of October 2012 and caused an estimated $63 billion of destruction in the United states of America. The live concert was broadcast via radio, television, movie theatres and the internet in six continents around the world. All the money raised from the big event was collected by the Robin Hood Relief Fund to help victims of the hurricane in the different places of U.S.A.
Replying to the freakish damage due to super storm Sandy, a stellar lineup of A-list music artists and bands, which included Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Bruce Springsteen banded collectively on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden for what is now being referred to as the greatest concert in history.
The 121212 Sandy concert was initially declared in the middle of November 2012 and it was produced by the makers of the previous 2001 Concert for New York City in aid of the Sep 11th attacks. This rapidly caught the attention of many star names from the music field. The location and availability date for tickets was declared in the first week of December. Madison Square Garden had initially been arranged for a New York Rangers match against the Montreal Canadiens on December.
Proceeds from the big event went to the Robin Hood Relief Fund and helped affected individuals in areas most tarnished, specifically Connecticut, New Jersey and New York . Over $30 million was raised selling tickets alone.
The 121212 Sandy Concert was broadcast live on a lot of channels all over the world, together with many hundreds of radio stations, in a number of movie theatres and on internet websites. It attracted an audience of 200 million people, and planners expected it would raise tens of millions of dollars in charitable contributions for the Robin Hood Foundation.
The concert was broadcast live on 39 U.S. TV stations, which included AMC, HBO, AXS TV and Showtime and on more than 20 worldwide TV networks. It was also streamed on more than twenty-five internet websites, such as SiriusXM, YouTube, Hulu, and Vevo and around fifty radio stations. Selected movie theatres in New Jersey, Connecticut and New York showed the concert at the same time.
Event makers John Sykes, James Dolan and Harvey Weinstein said: The simple fact that a lot of major media corporations are enrolling in forces to spread and stream this significant occasion to homes around the world will allow us to make a remarkable and unparalleled fundraising event on an international scale to help the victims of this destructive storm.
The performers of the 121212 sandy concert were: Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Dave Grohl, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Roger Waters, Kanye West, Eddie Vedder, The Who and Paul McCartney.
The concert changed to a night of entertainment, because the musicians attempted to show the spirit of co-operation that they say is going to be required for re-establishing the regions damaged by the sandy hurricane.
Bon Jovi joined up with Springsteen and the E Street Band for Born to Run, and then Springsteen delivered the favourite hit by Bon Jovi: Who Says You Can't Go Home.
R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe and Coldplay's Chris Martin joined up for Losing My Religion.
Diana Krall sang with McCartney and performed his song My Valentine, while Keys and McCartney finished the six-hour live concert with Empire State of Mind.
The 121212 sandy concert also had a sense of balance -- achieving the need to entertain billions of people all around the world, whilst also addressing the attention of the issues after the hurricane.
Sense of humour became the most effective artillery for that. Billy Crystal was fun loving on the stage as he symbolized his own Long Beach. This is incredible, he claimed. You can feel the electrical energy in the building, which implies that Long Island Power is not engaged.
Adam Sandler modified Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah into an anthem of survival in New York. Mick Jagger named it the greatest collection of old English musicians ever in history. Jon called the night the finest Hanukkah show ever.
Finally it has to be said that the 121212 Sandy Concert was of great importance as it helped the victims of hurricane Sandy tremendously. It proves once again that the people of the world are united and can stand up to any disaster.

Madison Square Garden is a multi-purpose indoor arena in midtown Manhattan in New York City. Located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues from 31st to 33rd Streets, it is situated atop Pennsylvania Station, (the second railroad station to bear the name). It is the fourth venue to bear the MSG name, the first two (1879) and (1890) of which were located on Madison Square, on East 26th Street and Madison Avenue, with the third Madison Square Garden further uptown at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street. The Garden is used for professional basketball and ice hockey, as well as boxing, concerts, ice shows, circuses, and other forms of sports and entertainment. It resides in close geographic proximity to other midtown Manhattan landmarks, including the Empire State Building, Koreatown, and Macy's at Herald Square. It is home to the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League, the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association, and residency to singer-songwriter, Billy Joel.

The Rolling Stones' 1969 Tour of the United States took place in November 1969. Rock critic Robert Christgau called it history's first mythic rock and roll tour,while rock critic Dave Marsh would write that the tour was part of rock and roll legend and one of the benchmarks of an era. History: This was the Rolling Stones' first US tour since July 1966, with the absence partly due to drug charges and subsequent complications. Instead of performing in small- and medium-size venues to audiences of screaming girls, the band was playing to sold-out arenas with more mature crowds that were ready to listen to the music. They used a more sophisticated amplification system, and lighting was overseen by Chip Monck. It was Mick Taylor's first tour with the band; he had replaced Brian Jones that June, shortly before Jones's death, and had only performed one gig (the free concert in Hyde Park) with them before the tour. Some rehearsals for this tour occurred in the basement of Stephen Stills' Laurel Canyon home. The tour began on 7 November with a warm-up show at Colorado State University, and then proceeded generally west to east, often playing two shows a night. The tour's second stop, at The Forum in Los Angeles, attracted national media attention as the outing's formal opening. In his review of the shows on 27 and 28 November at New York City's Madison Square Garden, Francis X. Clines of The New York Times characterized the tour as the major rock event of the year. Another well-known show from the tour was the second concert in Oakland, California on 9 November, which was captured on Live'r Than You'll Ever Be, one of the first-ever live bootleg recordings. On November 23, the band appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Gimme Shelter opened the show. The show closed with Love in Vain and Honky Tonk Women. The band mimed to prerecorded tracks and Jagger sang live. The performance was recorded at the CBS studios in Los Angeles and edited into the show to appear like they were in New York. The final show of the tour as initially planned was on 28 November in New York City, but 30 November in West Palm Beach, Florida was added as a gesture to the organiser. The band also organised and headlined the free concert at Altamont on 6 December, which was tacked on at the end of the tour as a response to the high ticket prices of the tour itself.
Tour manager Sam Cutler introduced the Rolling Stones as the greatest rock and roll band in the world, a title he had first bestowed upon them at their concert in London's Hyde Park the previous July.
Personnel: The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger – lead vocals, harmonica;
Keith Richards – guitar, backing vocals;
Mick Taylor – guitar;
Bill Wyman – bass;
Charlie Watts – drums
Additional musicians:
Ian Stewart – piano
Tour set list: A typical set list for the tour included the following, although there were substitutions (note the presence of Gimme Shelter on Live'r Than You'll Ever Be and Brown Sugar was performed at Altamont), variations and order switches throughout the tour. More info in the
reactions below!
