Confluence Overlook Hike - 10.2 miles - Canyonlands National Park - Needles District
A hike to the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Popular because the rivers are colored differently and can be distinguished from each other for several hundred yards. The first half mile is a bit strenuous, while the rest of the trail has a few difficult sections, but is mostly moderate. 10.2 miles to the confluence and back. Enjoy your hike!
Confluence Overlook, Needles District, Canyonlands National Park - Utah
The Confluence Overlook Trail crosses Big Spring Canyon and miles of open desert to spectacular views of the Colorado River and Green River confluence. The two rivers define Canyonlands National Park's three districts (Needles, Island in the Sky, and the Maze) and each are visible from the overlook.

Lost Canyon Hike and Trail Guide - Canyonlands National Park - Needles District
The Lost Canyon Trail in Canyonlands National park from the junction with Squaw Canyon to the Squaw Flats trailhead. Not my favorite of the canyons in the area. Walls were close and you couldn't see too much, however once out of Lost Canyon things opened up and there were some very beautiful areas.

Check out the gorgeous drive into the Canyonlands Needles District here
After a long drive from Flagstaff, Arizona, we ended day 7 of our road trip around the southwest with a stop at Big Spring Canyon Overlook in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This was the first stop of our 36 hours in Moab, Utah.
While The Needles District of the park only draws about 20% of the total park visitors, it was our favorite of the two districts we visited while in town (the other being Island in the Sky).

The Needles Canyonlands National Park
Produced by Utah.com The Needles District forms the southeast corner of Canyonlands and was named for the colorful spires of Cedar Mesa Sandstone that dominate the area. Tower Ruin, Confluence Overlook, Elephant Hill, the Joint Trail, and Chesler Park are some of the famous features of this area.

A 360 sweep from the Needles Overlook in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, USA
A short clip that shows how incredible the view is from this overlook, which I suspect is skipped by most park visitors. It's well to the south of Moab and 22 (easy) miles off the main road. It's actually a grouping of overlooks along three sides of a promontory. About 3/4 of the sweep covers canyon country and then the last 1/4 looks out to the La Sal mountains (seen first).

Canyonlands National Park Scenic Drive
Enjoy this drive from Moab, Utah into Canyonlands National Park! This route includes stops at the Green River Overlook and Upheaval Dome, before coming to an end at Grand View Point. Look for another video to take you out of the park and to Arches.

I made this trip in January 2018. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).
