A Million Places - Conundrum Hot Springs - CRESTED BUTTE, COLORADO
If you're looking for some mountains to kick your butte (see what I did there?), Crested Butte is your place.
If ya dig it, please Subscribe!:
More about the trail (though starting on the Aspen side):
UPDATE: From Gothic/Crested Butte, the hike has a 4000ft elevation gain (reaching 13000ft at one point after starting about 9k in Gothic) and dipping down 1000ft again when you reach Conundrum Hot Springs to make it 3000ft above Gothic.
- From a helpful guy who watched the video and did the hike.
CORRECTION: Metal Sculptor Sean Guerrero himself wrote in (so cool!) to clarify that the knight/dragon representation is actually OPPOSITE than what I cited at the end of the video. The knight represents the little guy and the dragon is The Man aka the corporate entity.

Aspen, Colorado : Conundrum Creek Trail | Part 1
In a magical place near Aspen, Colorado lies the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Here you will find a mysterious pathway that comes across something spectacular.
Coming from sunny Orange County, California, two inexperienced wanna-be hikers wanted to get out of their comfort zone. The most popular searched mountains that came up on Google search was the iconic Maroon Bells, because it is said to be one of the most photographed mountain peaks in America.
The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak, separated by about a third of a mile. Both peaks are fourteeners. Maroon Peak at 14,163 feet, is the 27th highest peak in Colorado. North Maroon Peak, at 14,019, is the 50th highest. Unlike other mountains in the Rockies that are composed of granite and limestone, the Bells are composed of metamorphic sedimentary mudstone that has hardened into rock over millions of years. The mudstone is responsible for the Bells' distinctive maroon color. (source: Wikipedia.)
These hikers have no experience hiking in the snow, let alone camping in the snow. There is always a first for everything! The Conundrum Creek Trail in it's entirety stretches a little over 8 miles. They have no clue what they were getting themselves into.
At the beginning of the trail, hikers had to register their names on the permits provided. Once completed, hikers must always carry a copy on their person throughout their hike. This is to inform the park rangers of visitors' whereabouts along the trail.
The trail was covered in a blanket of white snow from the previous night. The temperature read mid 30's during the day and 10-15 degrees F for the night. Were these hikers prepared for what Mother Nature had in store?
Even though the trail seemed short at 8 miles, the expected elevation gain estimated to be 4,600 feet. No big deal, right?
As the hikers began their journey to a place unknown, they began to feel small being amongst these naturally formed masses, like an ant trying to cross the sidewalk. The plan was to hike the majority of the trail on the first day. The sun was beaming is warmth sun rays, which gave them an opportunity of a lifetime to take a bunch of photos. To their dismay, this took up a lot of time, and they found themselves burning daylight faster than they thought.
Once they had a glimpse of the Maroon Bells' peaks, a feeling of accomplishment rushed through their bodies. They check their maps for their location only to find that they had many more miles to go. Once the sun descended behind the mountain and the shadows began to sweep over the land, the urgency to set up camp became their first priority
In the winter, the sun sets fairly early and the temperature in the mountains drop drastically. They only had minutes to go to assemble their tent, make fire, and hopefully get some food in their empty bellies.
Luckily, these hikers were able to setup their shelter in time before the heavy winds picked up. But did they survive the night?
Watch the next video to find out! :)

This Colorado town has a unique strategy to maintain the area's hiking trails
Steamboat Springs' trail system is an outdoor lover's paradise, but it's expensive to keep it that way. So the Yampa Valley Community Foundation is growing a fund to permanently maintain the area's trails.
