Brașov, Romania - In this ultimate Transylvanian Food tour of Brasov, Romania, we started off with a huge lunch, then continued to eat Transylvanian truffles, had a massive wild stew dinner, and ended the adventure with an e-bike ride up the ski slope and Romanian mountain breakfast. #Romania #Transylvania #Brasov
Huge thank you to Cristian Macedonschi ( for hosting us in Brasov!
La Ceaun - Just after arriving to Brasov, we went for lunch in the center square. We tried a huge assortment of Transylvanian Romanian foods. An amazing way to begin this food tour of Brasov.
Cucinino Pasta Bar - After taking a walk through the city and walking the hills around the city, we stopped at Cucinino Pasta Bar, mostly with the intention to try Transylvanian truffles. Amazing.
Hotel Alpin - Poiana, Brasov - From the center of Brasov, we drove about 20 minutes up the mountain and checked in to Hotel Alpin a classic ski resort hotel.
Stana Turistica Sergiana - Dinner was one of the highlights of this entire experience for me, a traditional countryside Romanian restaurant. The different stews, including deer, rooster, and beef cheeks were outstanding. Highly recommended restaurant when you’re in Brasov, Romania.
Cabana Postăvaru - Ski Lodge, Restaurant - In the morning, after riding an e-bike up the side of a ski slope, we had a huge Romanian mountain breakfast.
A fantastic food adventure in Romania, and thank you again to Cristian Macedonschi ( for hosting us and making it happen.
Also, thank you to Nassim ( and Cristian ( for setting up this incredible trip.

Ferma Dacilor:
This was the ultimate Romanian medieval BBQ meat feast. Huge thank you to Nassim ( and Cristian ( for setting up this incredible trip. #Romania #RomaniaFood #bbq
Meat Paradise in Romania at Ferma Dacilor ( - During my trip to Romania, we went to a place called Ferma Dacilor, one of the most unique and special meals and food experiences of my trip to Romania. The entire concept is straight farm to table, where nearly everything they serve, from the meat to the vegetables and seasoning, are grown, produced, and aged, on location at the farm.
Medieval BBQ Cooking - Not only is the food fresh and local, but they strive to cook things in the ancient way, they way their ancestors cooked - over fire, rustic, iron, and huge portions of Romanian food.
Along with the 110 KG pig they roasted whole, one of the highlights for me was trying Mangalica pig, a type of hairy pig that almost looks like a sheep. The fat is said to be quite healthy, with little to no cholesterol. The meat was fatty and delicious.
Huge thank you to Cornelo and his entire family for hosting us and for making our time at Ferma Dacilor so memorable. One of the best Romanian food experiences!

Village Food and Life in Transylvania, Romania - We had an amazingly special opportunity to spend a day in a local village in Transylvania, meeting amazing people, and learning about the delicious local food and life in Transylvania. #Transylvania #RomanianFood
Thank you to Caroline from Mihai Eminescu Trust for hosting us and for organising this experience.
Rooster soup and home cooked banquet - The main main was a home cooked rooster soup and banquet feast put on by an amazing community of women from this small, yet huge hearted, village in Transylvania. The food was cooked with so much love, and you could taste it in every bite.
Orchard’s Crunchy Pork - After riding a horse carriage to the top of a hill to get a view of the village and see the apple orchards, we enjoyed a Romanian Transylvanian picnic that included grilled pork fat skin.
Shepherd’s Lamb Stew and Polenta - This special shepherd’s lamb stew and polenta was incredible, the lamb fell off the bone with tenderness, and the polenta was rich and cheesy.
It was such an incredible day of Romanian food and learning about this incredible village in Transylvania.
Also, thank you to Nassim ( and Cristian ( for setting up this incredible trip.

Street Food in Romania for Breakfast!! $1.15 ROMANIAN MICI KEBABS!!
????Romanian medieval BBQ:
????T-shirts and caps:
SIBIU, ROMANIA - Sibiu is known as a gastronomy capital of Romania, and so I was excited to explore this historical city in Transylvania, and mainly to eat some street food and at a traditional Romanian restaurant. #Romania #mici #Sibiu
Huge thank you to Nassim ( and Cristian ( for setting up this incredible trip.
Geo Sib - Easily the most widely available and loved Romanian street food is Mititei / Mici, unique little balls of meat, mixed with spices and grilled over charcoal. This is the place to eat mici in Sibiu, in the morning on the outskirts of the market. Their mici was made from minced veal, lots of salt, and light seasoning. They were so incredibly good, and so incredibly bouncy. Price - 30 RON ($6.92) for 6, so each mici costs $1.15.
Next we continued walking around and exploring the historical center of Sibiu, drinking some coffee, and climbing up the watch tower for a view of the city. Also a highlight for me was stumbling into a small farmers market at the church and meeting an amazing grandmother famous for her pickles. All her different pickles were fantastic.
Jules Bistro - Next they had arranged for us to have a quick meal at Jules Bistro, a modern take on Romanian food. It was pretty good, and the setting was beautiful.
Crama Sibiul Vechi - But I was most interested in a traditional Romanian Transylvanian meal at Crama Sibiul Vechi, one of the best restaurants in Sibiu. The food was fantastic, and I loved the setting in an old basement with friendly staff. Total price - 109 RON ($25.15)
That completes this Romanian food tour of Sibiu - much more food to come!

Romanian Food: An Introduction to Romanian Cuisine
Come join us as we explore traditional Romanian food in Bucharest and Brasov. Romanian Cuisine is very underrated and includes many hearty dishes heavy in meats, cheeses and wines. It is the kind of food that sticks to your ribs and makes you want to have more and more.
One of our favorite restaurants in Bucharest was Plăcinte where we feasted on Moldavian pies, salads, soups grilled meats and desserts.
Visiting a restaurant that specializes in Polenta in Brasov, Transylvania we ordered the following traditional Roman food items:
Goulash, Mamalinguta cu branza si smantana (Polenta with cheese), Somloi, Afinata, Cotlet Dracula

Romanian Food: Romania Cuisine for Foodies Transcript:
We're coming to the end of our time in Romania and we thought we'd take you out one last time to show you some traditional Romanian cuisine. It's definitely been a highlight of our trip. We've absolutely loved eating Romanian food, so we can't wait to show you a few new things.
So I'm very excited because our food has finally arrived and first up I'm going to show you this Moldavian pancake. So it is basically a dough pancake and it is filled with sheep's cheese and cow's cheese but our server also asked if we wanted bacon inside, so we said 'yes, of course.' So let's dig in. I'm going to cut it up and show you what it looks like.
On this inside. Oh, yeah. You can see all of the cheese seeping out. Mmmm.
Yeah, we've had this a few times and they're really generous with the cheese. Oh yeah. And you can order all different kinds of cheese. They have cottage cheese, you can get mozzarella cheese, whatever you like. Oh, so check it out from this angle. Can you see the bacon in there? Oh, yeah. Oh yeah, baby. Oh, yeah.
Okay, look over here because this is a pretty cool dish. Polenta balls. And I find it really interesting because I've had polenta before in places like Argentina and Italy but I've never seen the polenta rolled out into a little ball like they do here in Romania.
And of course we could not resist getting some dessert. So we are having something called Tort a Lunel. And I'm probably butchering the name but that is how I think it is pronounced. And it is basically a dense chocolate cake with Halva, walnuts and peanuts. Oh, my!
I find when I'm having Romanian food I am so stuffed by the end of the meal. Siesta time after this for sure.
Don't worry, I can take care of this on my own if you leave it up to me.
Well, well. I'm guessing you enjoyed that? You better believe it. That was one heck of a big meal. I'm just basically in Siesta mode already. Sipping on my coffee. Not moving at all.
Time for price point. It was 95 Lei which if we do the conversion according to Sam is very cheap. Right, Sam? Yeah, it is just over 20 US dollars and we ended up getting 3 drinks, 3 mains and a dessert. Not bad.
It is dinnertime and we are at restaurant Transilvania. In Brasov and we are trying traditional Romanian cuisine. Let's go in and order some food. Yum!
So you've got yourself a fancy drink? Yeah, I'm just diving right in and trying things I've never had before. This is called afinata and it is a bilberry brandy.
Well, very exciting times. My food has finally arrived. If you have a look down here I'm having polenta with cottage cheese and sour cream. And I also got some goulash on the side which I know is Hungarian but it was on the menu so 'hey' I got it anyway. So let's start with the polenta because that is very Romanian.
Okay, so tell us about your plate? Now on the menu I saw something I could not resist ordering. It was called Dracula pork. And if something is good enough for Dracula. It's good enough for me. So let's take a look at this.
How much did that come to? That came to seventy three Lei. And when you convert that into US dollars it was only eighteen dollars. And keep in mind that was for three mains, three drinks and one shared dessert. I haven't had a meal that was that good of quality and that good of value in a very long time.

Spicy Indian Food!! TODDY SHOP - Fish Head Curry + Fresh Coconut Toddy in Kerala, India!
????Hot Lava Fish Fry:
????Ebbin’s Channel:
????T-shirts and caps:
TODDY - Toddy is the name of palm wine, but really the sap that is tapped from the freshly cut flowers of a palm tree - it’s the sweet juice nectar. From a coconut palm, it’s totally different from the coconut fruit, or coconut water. It’s the sap of the flowers. One of the reasons you won’t find it bottled up or sold far away from the palm trees, is that it spoils and ferments extremely fast.
#Kerala #India #toddy #toddyshop #IndianFood
In Kerala, especially in the backwaters area, coconut toddy is a very popular local beverage, and there’s an entire South Indian, Kerala, culture that revolves around it - including very spicy food. I was thrilled to have a chance to learn about the coconut palm toddy culture of Kerala, taste some toddy, and especially eat some food to pair with it.
First, we started off on a boat, and visiting a toddy tapper. The best coconut palm tody comes from coconut palms that lean over the water, and the best toddy is from brackish water palms. He showed us the process of slicing the flowers, and draining the sap into a ceramic vase to collect the juice. The sap ferments so fast, in just a few hours, it already turns alcoholic. We had the chance to sample fresh toddy, the juice right out of the flowers. It was sensational, much different from coconut water (from the fruit), and sweeter. Then we continued to a Toddy Shop.
Toddy Shop - Rajapuram Kayal Shop ( - About a 2 hour boat ride, we arrived at Rajapuram Kayal Shop, an amazing location, on its own island in the middle of lakes and lagoons. They were already starting to cook the amazing spicy food, including fish head curry, beef and pork chili fry. Toddy shops are known for cooking very spicy Indian food, with lots of spice and strong flavors, that pair well with coconut toddy. The food was unbelievably spectacular, and one of my favorite dishes of the day was the duck mappas.
For the toddy, we had a fresh toddy, a slightly fermented toddy, a grape infused toddy, and most importantly, and best of all, a chili and ginger toddy.
It was an extremely fun day to learn about Kerala food and culture and meet some amazing people!

Rare TRIBAL FOOD in India!! Leaf Basket COOKING! | Kerala, India
????Hot Lava Fish Fry:
????Ebbin’s Channel:
????T-shirts and caps:
Ponmudi, Kerala, India - Early one morning we drove into the mountains of Ponmudi, into the lush jungle, home to one of the incredible indigenous tribes of India. It was an amazing experience to learn about their culture, and especially to watch them prepare a number of truly incredible cooking techniques - unlike anything else I’d ever seen in the world. #India #Kerala
I had no idea what or how they were going to prepare a leaf basket steamer, and I didn’t even know that’s what they were going to prepare from the beginning. So it was even more fascinating for me to watch them prepare this ancient, and rarely ever seen anymore Indian cooking technique. They first heated rocks in a hot fire. Then the next step is they fastened a leaf basket from a specific type of green leaf. When the rocks had heated for a few hours and were white hot, they dropped the leaves into the bottom of the leaf steamer, added in the cassava, wrapped it all in leaves, then added bamboo poles on the inside to feed in water in order to make then entire packet steam and smoke, and cook, all at the same time. The result was a flavor of cassava unlike anything else I’ve had. It was steamed, but had this incredible smokiness to it.
The fish was cooked differently, seasoned with chilies, and then wrapped into a banana leaf packet and tossed directly into the fire. That was cool too, and also delicious. But the highlight was the amazingly unique leaf basket steamer.
It was an honor to have this opportunity to meet, hang out, and learn from this Tribal community in Kerala, India. Thank you!

MEAT FEAST in Transylvania - Cluj Napoca, Transylvania, Romania
We're in Transylvania, Romania - in its capital, Cluj Napoca. And we're getting ourselved familiar with Romanian food the best way I know how - by eating a ton of it. It's a meat feast like no other. We're having homemade sausage, cabbage rolls, mici, roasted pork belly, ribs, and the Cluj Napoca specialty - Varza a la Cluj. A deconstructed cabbage roll that reminds my of a lasagna but with cabbage instead of pasta. On the side we have roasted potatoes and polenta. Wash it all down with a couple beers, and we have one of the best meals ever.
Honestly, when we were deciding where to travel for the summer vacation, we kind of giggled when Cluj Napoca was suggested. Romania makes most people think of Gypsies and Vampires, but I am very glad we decided to go. Transylvania is a beautiful area with mountains and old towns. The culture loves coffee and beer - two of my favorite things. We were looking to unwind, eat good food, and familiarize ourselves with a new culture. Romania was able to offer us all those things and for a reasonable price.
Cluj Napoca has many cheap flights to and from England and other parts of Europe. If you get the opportunity to travel there, don't pass it up.
One of my favorite places in the world for food is Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
If you travel because you love gastronomy, Chengdu should be on your list of places to visit. It was Asia's first city to be named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

King of Seafood - BLACK SEA FISH PARTY + Unseen Danube Delta, Romania!
????Romanian medieval BBQ:
????T-shirts and caps:
Danube Delta, Romania - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Danube Delta was one of the destinations I was most looking forward to visiting on my trip to Romania. It’s a stunningly beautiful place, teeming with delicious fish from the Danube River and the Black Sea. #Romania #DanubeDelta #Food
Green Village Resort - First of all a huge thank you to Green Village Resort for hosting us and for arranging this entire amazing Danube Delta experience in Romania.
We arrived in the evening, and started with an incredible seafood fish feast at the resort before calling it a night.
In the morning we got on a boat for breakfast, tried fishing without any luck, and ended up in a narrow waterway in the beautiful Danube Delta for breakfast. The smoked fish and smashed onions were the highlight.
Fisherman soup - For lunch, we made a huge pot of local style Danube Delta fish soup.
King of Romanian Seafood at La Mache - Finally to end this incredible Romanian seafood tour of the Danube Delta we drove to a restaurant called La Mache. I had no idea what to expect. Turned out to be a full show of fish and seafood from the Black Sea and the Danube Delta and one of the most spectacular meals of my entire trip to Romania.
Also, thank you to Nassim ( and Cristian ( for setting up this incredible trip.
