Cook's Meadow in winter at Yosemite National Park
One of California's most formidable natural landscapes, Yosemite National Park features nearly 1,200 square miles of sheer awe: towering waterfalls, millennia-old Sequoia trees, striking, daunting cliff faces and some of the most unique rock formations in the United States. But despite its enormous size, most of the tourist activity takes place within the 8-square-mile area of Yosemite Valley. Here you'll find the park's most famous landmarks – Half Dome and El Capitan – as well as excellent hiking trails through the natural monuments. Even inexperienced hikers can enjoy Yosemite: Guided tours and climbing lessons are available from local adventure outfitters. Just don't expect to experience it by yourself. Like so many other American tourist destinations, crowds are the biggest obstacles to an enjoyable Yosemite vacation – approximately 4 million people visit each year. But if you go at the right time (and start your day a little earlier than usual), Mother Nature's wonders will reveal themselves to you in a miraculous and serene way. Distance: 11.5 mi (18.5 km) full loop; 7.2 mi (11.6 km) half loop
Elevation gain: Mostly level
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: 5-7 hours full loop, 2.5-3.5 hours half loop
Begin at: Lower Yosemite Fall (shuttle stop #6) [head west along the bicycle path until you see signs for the Valley Loop Trail]
This trail follows many of the Valley's first east-west trails and wagon roads. It offers a rare opportunity in Yosemite Valley: to hike on a fairly level trail with some solitude. While some of the trail passes near roads, much of it takes you through meadows, talus slopes at the base of the granite cliffs, and near the Merced River. You can access the trail from many places throughout the Valley; however, the mileage and description used here starts at the Lower Yosemite Fall area (follow signs for Valley Loop Trail). Route-finding can be difficult in places, so it is best to bring a map with you (even a simple day hiking brochure from the visitor center) as it will orient you with the various landforms in the Valley, which are often listed on the trail/directional signs.

Yosemite National Park Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Yosemite – an American story unlike any other. Follow us through the national park from its high country to its waterfalls, its towering sequoia groves to its valley meadows.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Yosemite National Park:
#YosemiteNationalPark sits on the western slopes of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. Most visitors spend their #vacation in Yosemite Valley, which despite being only 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, packs in more jaw-dropping scenery than just about any other place on Earth.
#Visit Tunnel View and stand before a panorama that’s reduced generations of visitors to silence. The Yosemite Valley ring road follows the banks of the Merced River, which shifts in character as it thunders from the valley walls, before gently winding across the valley floor. The ring road is dotted with trailheads that lead to 800 miles of hiking trails.
Drive along Tioga Road, one of the USA’s most scenic highways. Fill your lungs with alpine air at Olmsted Point, refresh yourself by the waters of Tenaya Lake, then spend the day at Tuolumne Meadow, the traditional summer hunting grounds of the Ahwaneechee.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Scenic excerpts of Tioga Road (CA SR 120) in/near Yosemite National Park (drivelapse)
A #drive of five scenic portions of California Route 120 in and near #Yosemite National Park, traveling eastbound through the #Sierra Nevada Mountains on a sunny late summer morning. The journey passes by Olmsted Point, Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Lembert Dome, exits through the #TiogaPass park entrance, and continues by Tioga Lake, Ellery Lake, brief glimpses of Mono Lake, and ends in the town of Lee Vining on US 395.
An instrumented #drivelapse or #timelapse at 2X speed recorded on August 26, 2019.
#TiogaRoad is not maintained in the winter, and is usually closed from approximately November until sometime between April and June each year. While it is signed as contiguous California State Route 120 through Yosemite National Park, the portion within park boundaries is federally, not state, maintained. At 9,943 feet (3,031 meters), Tioga Pass is the highest paved through-road in the California State Route System.
Like many mountain roads, there are tree-lined stretches of this road where all you can see is trees whizzing by on both sides... I omitted most sections like that, which is why there are five separate portions instead of one continuous drive. Towards the end I was stuck behind someone in a pickup driving somewhat slowly (and not particularly well).

Driving in Yosemite National Park, California, USA - El Capitan Meadows
Join me on a drive in Yosemite National Park, California, USA to see the most famous landmark - the El Capitan. El Capitan is 3,000 vertical feet of sheer rock granite. It can be viewed from Tunnel view or while driving by El Capitan Meadows. Please excuse the sound disturbance, I had the car windows rolled down for better view. Also the best view of the El Capitan is the last 26 seconds of the video. Thanks for watching!

Episode 4: Cook's Meadow in Yosemite– Through the Lens with Dr. Charles Stanley
When you're photographing, you have to look around.
Cook's Meadow sets the scene for April's look through the lens with Dr. Charles Stanley. One of the joys of photography is being able to capture moments like this from a new, unique perspective. Much like reading Scripture, a photographic journey can be a new, fresh experience every time. All that is necessary is the willingness to look for it.
For more messages from Charles Stanley, including this week's broadcast, go to intouch.org/tv.
