The multi award winning Corinium Museum in the Cotswold town of Cirencester in England has a large collection of objects found in and around the locality. The bulk of the exhibits are from the Roman town of Corinium Dobunnorum, but the museum includes material from as early as the Neolithic and right up to Victorian times.

Very impressed with this museum, I had not realised that Cirencester was the second largest Roman city after London, responsible for the English South West. Very detailed presentation of all Roman history and society. About 12 lovely mosaics. Also good displays of all the history of the area from stone age to Victorian. Layout and displays were very well designed and modern.

Built in the early 2nd century, the Corinium (now Cirencester) Roman amphitheatre was one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in Britain. Worth a side trip if visiting Cirencester.

The Cirencester Roman Cockerel - Corinium Museum
Animation of the Roman Bronze Cockerel from Corinium Museum, Cirencester. The 3D data was captured using a Romer Absolute Arm laser scanner, with processing and texture mapping performed in Geomagic Studio. Scene setup was in 3ds Max and rendered as 750 frames at 1280x720 using Mental Ray render engine, with a render time of 13.5 hours. The final animation was generated with (the amazing!) ffmpeg.
