Day Trip to Sorrento, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Considered the official start of the Amalfi Coast, the cliff-perched town of Sorrento makes for a quick and easy day trip. We caught the train in Pompei at Villa dei Misteri and took the Circumvesuviana line all the way down the coast. Our plan for the day? To eat and wander around without much of an itinerary.
Since we were visiting just before the holidays, the streets were decked out with all sorts of Christmas decorations. We befriended a few dogs along the way, and then we found a spot to indulge in coffees and pastries.
After walking through the town, we started making our way down to the waterfront, more specifically, to Marina Grande. This harbour is line with pastel-coloured buildings, boats bobbing in the water, and lots of seafood restaurants.
After walking the length of the marina and browsing through menus, we finally settled on a restaurant for lunch: Zi’Ntonio Mare.
Making our way back to town, we also attempted to visit Sorrento Cathedral, but we arrived outside of opening hours so here’s a quick look from the exterior.
From there, we continued down some of Sorrento’s pedestrian-friendly side streets, which were lined with small shops and outdoor produce stalls. Limoncello seemed to be by far the most popular souvenir, so if you’re looking for a taste of the famed lemon liqueur, this is a good place to stock up!
Our last stop of the day were the Cloisters of San Francis, where there was a small art exhibition taking place. These cloisters are also located in small park with great views of the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea, so we enjoyed the views one last time and then it was time to head back.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

Making Pizza Sorrento Italy
You haven't really had pizza until you've had pizza in Italy and the Pizza in Sorrento is special even by Italian standards because not only was pizza thought to have it's origins not far from Sorrento in Naples, but the best buffalo mozzarella cheese used on these pizzas comes from the Sorrento area as well. So the pizza these guys in Sorrento, these pizzaiolos, are making not only looks fantastic, the pizza these pizzaiolos in Sorrento are making tastes fantastic. If you're in Sorrento or anywhere else in Italy and you suddenly get a craving for Pizza, don't fight it, have some Pizza, your only regret will be that when you go back home you favourite pizza place won't be your favourite pizza place any more. Mmmmmmm! Pizza!!

Capri and its Blue Grotto - Italy's Legends by the Sea
Capri was already in ancient times a place for the rich and beautiful. Today Capri is one of the most famous islands in the world. Millions of tourists visit it. But there are in fact still unknown corners on the island in the Gulf of Naples.
Thus, at the very top of Capri, there is a hermit monastery with a view to the Vesuvius. Vittorio Staiano and Carmine Russo have to ring the bells at exactly twelve o'clock. But the way to the monastery is not so easy, a chair lift and a steep path await them; as a reward, a good coffee in the chapel beckons with heavenly peace.
In the hustle and bustle that reigns among them, Michele Balsamo gets his jewel back into shape. He is the proud winner of the Vespa Club. His Ape tricycle transporter with curtains, jukeboxes and romantic lighting has been voted the most beautiful on the island.
The most famous spot of Capri is not on the island, but below it: La Grotta Azzurra. When the sea is calm, Roberto rows tourists into the Blue Grotto in a tiny boat and sings in phenomenal acoustics, waiting for a decent tip. There is competition for the paying guests. Word has long since got around which nationalities are particularly generous and which are not.
Opposite Capri is the Amalfi Coast. Legendary places like Sorrento or Positano lie on the steep coast between Naples and Salerno. Who wants to build on this panorama road, calls Giovanni Bottone. He runs a transport company with mules and is well known. He is in charge of several construction sites at the same time, all of which can only be reached by stairs. It is often necessary to climb over 500 steps. Then only Giovanni's animals carry bricks or mortar. But there are also places where not even his donkeys can get to.
The small bay Conca dei Marini can only be reached from the water. There, the Lauritanos run the restaurant La Tonnarella. In former times the tuna fish were gathered here, since the 1950s they were not seen here anymore. But Jacky Kennedy came as a guest to the bay and ate a pasta in the beach cottage of Umberto. That was the beginning of the restaurant. Today Umbertos young granddaughters run the shop with the difficult logistics and the risk that not one guest will come in rough seas.
The Morvillo fishing family also depends on the weather. They are the only ones on the coast who are allowed to fetch Gamberetti from the sea. Her catch is so coveted that it is sold directly from the cutter. The director of the Marine National Park makes sure that this family remains the only shrimp fisher. He also uses the so-called sea sweeper every day, a floating rust bucket that collects garbage between Sorrento and Amalfi.
Maria Cirillo trains with her rescue dogs in the place that gave the coast its name. She makes Golden Retriever get people who threaten to drown out of the water. But before the work begins, there is a coffee at the bar and a round of cornetti for the dogs. Who knows what will happen on the busy beach?

About Positano:
Positano is a beautiful cliffside village on the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy. The village is hemmed in by mountains and remains physically unspoilt.
We arrived on a very crowded local SITA bus from Sorrento and walked down into the village, enjoying spectacular views as we descended. You can also arrive by road from Salerno or by ferry from Naples. If you’re driving, be aware that the coastal road can get very busy and parking can be a problem.
The majolica-tiled dome of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta can be seen from every corner of the village. This pretty church is often depicted on local ceramic wares and it’s also a popular subject in paintings. And, with its lovely setting right in the centre of Positano, this Church is a favourite destination for weddings on the Amalfi Coast. From the small piazza in front of the church it’s just a short walk down to the popular seafront.
Positano has lots of little stairways connecting steep, narrow streets lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart boutiques and cafés.
The steep streets mean that getting around on foot can be tiring, especially if it’s hot.
We visited in April, when it’s cooler - and avoided high summer, when Positano is overcrowded with visitors.
The village attracts a lot of tour groups and prices can be higher here than elsewhere on the coast.
This area is famous for its ceramics.
The local earth consists of clay and limestone and is rich in volcanic content, making it ideal for ceramic production.
Here you’ll find lots of shops selling ceramic wares with designs inspired by the colours of the Amalfi Coast: the area is also famous for its lemons and vibrant yellows are prominent.
When you’ve finished with the shops, why not take a look at
the “Grotta Fornillo”, a roadside cave on the edge of Positano.
This miniature village is “Il Presepe di Positano”, or “the Nativity of Positano”.
At the bottom of the village is a popular pebble beach, the Spiaggia Grande.
At 300 meters long, the beach is one of the longest on the Amalfi Coast.
If you fancy exploring further afield, you can catch a small “Sea Taxi boat from here to one of the other nearby bays.
From this this beach you can some of the watch towers that have guarded the stunning Amalfi coast against raiders for hundreds of years.
The raiders may have gone, but Positano has a special beauty that will most likely make you want to come back.

A Glimpse of the bus ride from Positano to Sorrento, Italy
The bus ride from Sorrento to Positano, a small town on the Amalfi Coast, in Campania, Italy was quite an experience! The SITA bus comes every hour, and the ride was quite scary and nauseating due the winding and narrow road that goes around the edge of the rocky cliffs, and the speed of the bus ride. However, once you get to the very top of the mountain (or the edge of Positano), it's a beautiful and tranquil sight! I only wish I had more than a day to explore Positano...
This video clip is on the way back from Positano back to Sorrento. As you can hear, the bus ride is quite loud, and the bus driver honks quite frequently whenever the bus turns around a corner to signal to upcoming traffic. As mentioned before, this is because the roads are not only narrow but also very winding. On the left side is the picturesque Amalfi Coast, and on right side are the rocky cliffs of the Lattari mountains. The video doesn't quite capture how beautiful it is, and the bus driver was going quite fast that the scenery is blurry.
If you get a chance to visit Italy, make sure you stop and visit both Sorrento and Positano. Sorrento for its late night shopping, dining, and entertainment with all its brightly coloured buildings and prized production of limoncello. Positano for its many beaches, handmade (and well known) shoe accessories, local fresh seafood and extra-virgin olive oil, the Amalfi Coast, and the nearby island of Capri where you can swim in the Blue Grotto.

Streets in Sorrento
Sorrento, Italy is almost just a mountain. An coming from a flat country it is always funny to get to new places where the roads are so more different than in Denmark. This short video (with no sound) show us going from a large road to one of the smaller roads on Sorrento.
I later learned to hunk the horn when going around corners on the narrow streets!
