Costello Memorial Church
This is as we found it in the middle of a crowded street in Carrick on Shannon. Smallest Chapel in Europe apparently 2nd smallest in the world. The noises are some Art project and the shapes beneath the glass are the coffins of Mr Costello and his wife. He built the church as a memorial to her and buried her under glass and when he died people repayed the compliment. Just damn freaky if you ask me!

Battlebridge to Carrick-on-Shannon. Episode #6
In this episode we cruise the river Shannon from Battlebridge on the north of the river Shannon and travel south to the town of Carrick on Shannon. In Carrick on Shannon we take a walk about the town in lovely sunshine and visit some of the sights including the tiny little church of Costello memorial chapel. At just sixteen feet by twelve feet this is the second smallest church in the world. If you want to see a smaller one you will have to travel to the holy land where I’m told you can find one.
We also take a look at some old pubs and a few of the sights in Carrick on Shannon, although there is so much to see here that we really cannot do Carrick justice. What is more difficult to convey even in video is the wonderful atmosphere of the town. There is a real holiday feeling in the air that seems to be present no matter what time of year you visit Carrick on shannon.

Film footage taken around Carrick-on-Shannon, Rooskey and Jamestown
in the early 1960's... including bonfire night and dancing at Cox's Cross, Kilmore where Mrs O'Dowd had a school of Music and always held a bonfire on the 23th June at which her pupils performed , that was in the early evening , they also had a marquee where the adults danced into the early hours. The family getting on the barge are Alan Dunne and his wife Atty with their two children Mary and Jeanette.
Regatta day in Carrick-on-Shannon , the rowing club, (the men wearing hats at the rowing club are Pat Dunne and Johnny Dunne Alan's father). and the festival marquee in the Market Yard (Flynn's) with the crowds for the regatta weekend.

A Skeleton, a Catholic Relic, and a Mystery About American Origins
After 400 years in the Virginia dirt, the box came out of the ground looking like it had been plucked from the ocean. A tiny silver brick, now encrusted with a green patina and rough as sandpaper. Buried beneath it was a human skeleton. The remains would later be identified as those of Captain Gabriel Archer, one of the most prominent leaders at Jamestown, the first permanent English colony in America. But it was the box, which appeared to be an ancient Catholic reliquary, that had archaeologists bewildered and astonished.
