VICTORIA MARTIN: MATH TEAM QUEEN demonstrates that chaos theory rules, when the third-most-popular sophomore is roped into joining the all-male, all-nerd Longwood High School Math team, upsetting their axis of symmetry. Will Vickie Martin with her hidden mathematical brainpower become the coefficient of her team or invert the curve? Can this goddess of Pi possibly become the common denominator that makes the mathletes win state? The first play ever featured on NPR's Science Friday! ...Math? Comedy? Totally.

RISE UP brings story of the Freedom Riders to The Coterie stage
The Coterie
presents
RISE UP
by Lisa Evans
Directed by Jeff Church
Featuring Catera Combs, Krystal L. Coppage, Jay Love & Jordan Luty
Told from a modern-day perspective of four students in 2019 who make a class project about 1961's Freedom Riders - citizens riding buses across Alabama and Mississippi in 1961, to stand up against segregation.
The tide was turning – though many states in the South disagreed. It would soon be illegal to segregate black Americans on public buses, in waiting rooms, or in restaurants. And yet, in the early 1960s, some cities and towns in America kept actively discriminating. It was time to draw attention to illegal discrimination, and face terrifying violence with civil resistance. This is a story of everyday people becoming a movement, taking on the establishment and changing the world.

UMKC MFA Town Hall 6/4/17
Kansas City's vast theatre community came together Sunday June 4, 2017 to raise their voice in support of the UMKC Master of Fine Arts theatre program threatened by Missouri Government budget cuts.
In This Scene: 'Freedom Rider'
In 1961, in the heat of the civil rights movement, black and white college students rode buses through the South to challenge segregated public transportation. These Freedom Riders are the subject of a new play being staged by the University of Missouri-Kansas City's theater department. It's a collaboration between students, several playwrights, a director, and a choir. They hope to inspire a conversation about how the lessons of the past can have meaning in the present.
UMKC Theatre presents ‘Freedom Rider,’ Friday, May 01, 2015, at Spencer Theatre, 4949 Cherry Street, Kansas City, Mo., 816-235-6222.
