on the day we visited cotopaxi we were afforded some views of its summit and ice cap. also were lucky enough to see some activity ie clouds of smoke escaping from its top.
Cotopaxi is an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, located in the Latacunga canton of Cotopaxi Province, about 50 km (31 mi) south of Quito, and 33 km (21 mi) northeast of the city of Latacunga, Ecuador, in South America. It is the second highest summit in Ecuador, reaching a height of 5,897 m (19,347 ft). It is one of the world's highest volcanoes.
Since 1738, Cotopaxi has erupted more than 50 times, resulting in the creation of numerous valleys formed by lahars (mudflows) around the volcano.
The Geophysics Institute of Quito's National Polytechnic School placed Cotopaxi under active watch on 25 June 2015 after observing activity.Cotopaxi's most recent eruption started on 15 August 2015

Cotopaxi National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Cotopaxi) is a protected area in Ecuador situated in the Cotopaxi Province, Napo Province and Pichincha Province, roughly 50 km south of Quito. The Cotopaxi volcano (supposedly meaning smooth neck of the moon) that lends its name to the park is located within its boundaries, together with two others: the dormant Rumiñawi volcano to its north-west and the historical Sincholagua volcano (last major eruption: 1877) to the south east. At 5897 meters above sea level, and rising majestically above the Andean mountains, the Cotopaxi mountain is Ecuador's highest active volcano - as well as being one of the most active volcanoes anywhere in Ecuador. With an almost perfectly symmetrical cone shape its identifiable sign, Cotopaxi mountain is also a picture book image of Ecuador.
Day Trip to Cotopaxi
We celebrated July 4th hiking up Cotopaxi. We hiked to base camp first followed by 20 minute walk to the galcier. Cotopaxi's glacier is one of the few equatorial glaciers in the world, which starts at the height of 5,000 metres (16,400 ft).

It is located in Latacunga province in Ecuador.
I forgot my hiking shoes but still was willing to walk as far as I can.
Mountains always had a great power over me.
But this one is definitely a unique one.

DANGEROUS ACTIVE VOLCANO COTOPAXI AT ECUADOR, SOUTH AMERICA
Cotopaxi is an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, located in the Latacunga canton of Cotopaxi Province, about 50 km (31 mi) south of Quito, and 33 km (21 mi) northeast of the city of Latacunga, Ecuador, in South America.It is the second highest summit in Ecuador, reaching a height of 5,897 m (19,347 ft). It is one of the world's highest volcanoes.
Since 1738, Cotopaxi has erupted more than 50 times, resulting in the creation of numerous valleys formed by lahars (mudflows) around the volcano. The last eruption lasted from August 2015 to January 2016. Cotopaxi was officially closed by the authorities to climbing until it reopened on October 7, 2017.
On a clear day, Cotopaxi is clearly visible on the skyline from Quito[7] and is part of the chain of volcanoes around the Pacific plate known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. It has an almost symmetrical cone that rises from a highland plain of about 3,800 m (12,470 ft), with a width at its base of about 23 km (14 mi).It has one of the few equatorial glaciers in the world, which starts at the height of 5,000 m (16,400 ft). At its summit, Cotopaxi has an 800 × 550 m wide crater which is 250 m (820 ft) deep. The crater consists of two concentric crater rims, the outer one being partly free of snow and irregular in shape. The crater interior is covered with ice cornices and rather flat. The highest point is on the outer rim of the crater on the north side.
Many sources claim that Cotopaxi means shining pile or mountain in an indigenous language, but this is unproven. The mountain was honored as a Sacred Mountain by local Andean people, even before the Inca invasion in the 15th century. It was worshiped as “rain sender”, that served as the guarantor of the land's fertility, and at the same time its summit was revered as a place where gods lived.

The World in One Minute: Hiking Cotopaxi in Ecuador
Today I embarked on a journey to the stratovolcano Cotopaxi. It's the second highest peak in Ecuador. After a bumpy, two-hour drive, I was ready to rock the mountain. Turns out altitude and I don't mesh, so Cotopaxi and all of it's 19,347 ft rocked me. And I was only at 17,500 ft. To see the outtakes from this video, go to

Starting the first YouTube video with one of the most challenging events in 2017, hiking the volcano Cotopaxi! Elevation 19,347 ft (5,897 m) the second highest volcano in Ecuador. Ecuador have so many places to visit and enjoy, not necessarily 19,000 ft up in the air, but the city and its culture has so much to offer to the world.
If you consider traveling to South America, consider Ecuador. It will be a great experience without over expending on food or stay.
