The Park Avenue Viewpoint is one of the first major stops in Arches National Park. From the viewpoint you can continue hiking the Park Avenue Trail that descends quickly and steeply into a beautiful canyon and takes you through the Avenue area to the Courthouse Towers. This hike gives you a spectacular feel of Arches' sandstone formations. You start at the parking area and walk 1 mile through what is appropriately named to represent a sandstone feel of the big city. At the end of the hike (Courthouse Towers parking) you will have a great view of the Three Gossips, North Avenue, Tower of Babel and more! However, it is not necessary to take the hike to see these views.

2014 tour of the Grand Circle of American Southwest. In episode 15, we begin our journey on U.S. Highway 191 (US-191) north at Moab, Utah. We will then be traveling along the main road of Arches National Park, beginning at the visitor center to the Devils Garden. The 3rd day of our road trip through the US South West! We woke up on Moab, Utah for sunrise and went to the Windows Arch in Arches National Park. Then we headed into Castle Valley, Utah before heading back to Arches National Park to finish the day.

When the United States, in keeping with its best idea, decides to create a new national park, it can go without saying that the land is special, iconic, and worthy of protection.
It can be said, however, that some of these gems are so mind-numbingly spectacular, that a single feature --- say, a delicate arch perhaps? --- can be recognized as one of the single most geologically significant, visually breathtaking, and frequently bucket list-making landmarks in the world; attracting 1.4 million visitors last year alone.
This is the case in Utah's Arches National Park.
Utah is a special place. The state is home to five of the most jaw-dropping national parks on the map, carved over millions of years through its red rock. Located on the eastern side of the small town of Moab, with Canyonlands National Park down the road to the west, Arches is home to one of the most inspiring sections of road in any national park.

With its entrance located directly Highway 191, it can be difficult navigating the traffic during peak seasons and certain times of day. From the entry station and visitor center, park visitors begin their adventure with a winding drive up to the top of the Moab Fault and immediate views of the nearby La Sal Mountains. Moments later, you're greeted by landmark after gorgeous landmark; from Park Avenue to The Organ, Three Gossips to the Petrified Dunes and Rock Pinnacles.
The suspense continues to build throughout the entire drive as more and more recognizable features come into view.
Plan for no less than an entire day to explore this park. The Garden of Eden, Parade of Elephants, The Windows, and Balanced Rock, each equally impressive and unique.
Hike the Fiery Furnace, to Landscape Arch, Double O Arch, and yes, make sure you carve out plenty of time to bask in the majesty of Delicate Arch.
The hike can be brutal on a hot day, trust me, it was 110 degrees when I completed the hike at 7pm! Most hikers didn't make it up the 1-mile, rock face ascent to the arch that day.

Around 8 kilometres north of the small town of Moab in the State of Utah, is the entrance to one of the most famous national parks in the United States, Arches Park, a national park that owes its remarkable popularity to its gigantic sandstone arches of which there are approximately 2000. Covering 300 square kilometres, the park is relatively small but it is one of the USA’s most popular nature reservations. From Courthouse Towers with its outstanding rock formations there’s a 38 kilometre panoramic route known as Scenic Drive that takes in the rocky sand dunes of Petrified Dunes which are evidence that the park owes much of its geological phenomena to its famous stone arches. Balanced Rock is one of the park’s main attractions. Weighing around 3,600 tons, the sandstone rock balances precipitously at a height of 22 metres supported on a fragile looking foundation. Close to Cache Valley is the massive, isolated stone structure of Delicate Arch. Although it appears to be fragile it has been proudly standing close to the nearby valley since prehistoric times. The Devil’s Garden Trailhead leads to a large collection of the most beautiful stone arches. With the passage of time, ice forced apart the softer layers of stone and countless years of relentless erosion created these natural arches along with all the other bizarre rock formations of the plateau. Created by the two elements of water and air that have cut deep into the sandstone, Tunnel Arch is the first arch that can be seen when walking through “Devil’s Garden”. This natural stone arch is so smooth that it could easily be compared with a modern Man-made tunnel. A few metres away there’s another small opening in the rock wall, Tunnel Arch, where the surrounding vegetation creates a romantic ‘Wild West’ atmosphere. In this incredible land of sandstone arches, the fascinating rock formations and unique beauty of Arches Park is surely one of the most spectacular sights in the natural world.

The Stark County Courthouse is a beautiful structure built in the architectural style known as Beaux Arts Classicism. Completed in 1895, it is the third courthouse to occupy this site. The first, a Federal style structure erected in 1817-1818, was replaced by a larger Italianate structure in 1868-1870, with a separate Annex. However, within two decades, this second courthouse had been outgrown. County Commissioners were reluctant to undertake the cost of a new structure during the depression years of the 1890's. Accordingly, Architect George Hammond from Cleveland, Ohio was commissioned to revise and expand the existing structure. Hammond's remodeling actually called for the construction of a whole new, larger building around the body of the existing structure. Hammond's plan focuses on the imposing bell and clock tower, crowned by four courthouse angels, the Trumpeters of Justice once visible for some distance along most approaches to the city.
The courthouse is divided into four stories, with the first story using the Roman arch as its motif, the largest of these being the three entrance archways over the south porch entrance. The second story is subdivided into two sections: the upper section uses the oculus or round window set in ornamented squares; the lower sections uses a narrow Roman arch window. The upper story has square-headed Roman-style windows. Between the windows are rectangular panels ornamented with a lattice pattern in stone. The cornice is adorned with overlapping disks and a running ivy festoon.
The building has two porticos; an elaborate pedimented design on the Tuscarawas Street side, and a simple, single story portico facing Market Avenue. The Market Avenue portico is supported by four Tuscan columns with Doric capitals crowned by a balustrade. The Tuscarawas Street facade is of the greatest architectural interest. It is a Beaux Arts fantasy composed of triple Roman arches on the first floor, above which rise paired, unfluted columns with large Ionic capitals. Above this is the traditional stepped architrave and, above that is an undecorated frieze. The carving in the triangular pediment is a magnificent presentation in carved sandstone, the symbolism of which is derived partially from the rural commerce of the county itself and partially from ancient Greece. The four central female figures robed in the Greek peplum are allegorical representations of Commerce, Justice, Agriculture and Industry.
Although placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, over the decades the courthouse had suffered from lack of proper maintenance and alterations of its original appearance. For example, the columns of the south porch had been filled in with masonry to provide additional room. This and other changes had seriously affected its appearance and its overall condition had deteriorated. However, in 1992 a major renovation at a cost of $11 million dollars was undertaken through a combination of funding provided by the County Commissioners and local private foundations, including the Deuble, Hoover, Timken and Stark Community Foundations. The project, completed in 1995, included many improvements and returned the building to its original appearance from its construction one-hundred years earlier. A formal rededication of the Stark County Courthouse was held on September 16, 1995.

Arches National Park is a national park in eastern Utah, United States. The park is adjacent to the Colorado River, 4 miles (6 km) north of Moab, Utah. More than 2,000 natural sandstone arches are located in the park, including the well-known Delicate Arch, as well as a variety of unique geological resources and formations. The park contains the highest density of natural arches in the world.[3][4]
The park consists of 76,679 acres (119.811 sq mi; 31,031 ha; 310.31 km2) of high desert located on the Colorado Plateau.[5] The highest elevation in the park is 5,653 feet (1,723 m) at Elephant Butte, and the lowest elevation is 4,085 feet (1,245 m) at the visitor center. The park receives an average of less than 10 inches (250 mm) of rain annually.
Administered by the National Park Service, the area was originally named a national monument on April 12, 1929, and was redesignated as a national park on November 12, 1971.[6] The park is expected to receive 1.8 million visitors in 2018.[7]
