Part of a historic agreement agreed between the Surfing Federation of India and Sri Lanka Surfing Federation, the extravaganza is a platform for promoting surfing amongst the youth.
Surfers from both countries are encouraged to participate in the official competition across the coasts in both countries.
This event took place in Covelong which is based around the outskirts of Chennai and recognized as India’s ‘First Surfing Village’,

Pristine beaches, a shimmering blue sea, and some of the best surf in the country - presenting the fifth annual Covelong Point Surf, Music & Yoga Festival! The festival took place this August 23th - 25th 2019 at the Covelong Point Social Surf School in Kovalam village near Chennai, Tamil Nadu - India’s first surfing village and a hub of surf culture in South India.
Featuring a national and international level surf competition, a global music lineup spread across three stages, yoga and meditation classes and alternative healing workshops - the annual event attracts thousands of attendees every year from across India and around the globe. A pilgrimage site of sorts for surfers, yogis, and artists alike, the event also features a vibrant flea market, food stalls, art installations and beach side activities.
Driven by a passion for art and music and a love of surf and the ocean, since its inception the festival has used these mediums as vehicles to empower the local Kovalam community. A carnival of culture - set on the spectacular Tamil Nadu coastline.

The 7th edition of the Covelong Point Surf, music and yoga festival is taken place at Kovalam and featured international surfers battling it out for honours. The festival primarily aims to promote the sport of surfing and stand up paddle in India, spread the message of importance of good health and wellness.
Jonty Rhodes, the world-famous South African former cricketer, was the festival’s Brand Ambassador, and presented at the venue throughout the weekend. This biggest and only one of its kind Festival of Surf, Music, And Yoga, featured a full-fledged carnival area with over 50 stalls showcasing unique products and specially-curated food stalls and trucks.

People of Kovalam call them as Kadal Pooran [Sea Centipede] but they are Beach Worms. Fishermen from Kovalam catch them to sell to Chinese restaurants. It costs around 1500rs per kg.

Covelong Beach is popularly known as Kovalam beach is a beach located in the coast of a village named Covelong, Chennai, India. This village is a fishing village 40 km from Chennai. Covelong Beach is on the way to Mahabalipuram near the East Coast Road (popularly ECR).
Covelong Beach is one of the finest and beautiful beach by nature. As Covelong Beach being one of the famous beach near Chennai and is located on the way to Mahabalipuram, it is visited by thousands of people each day. Mostly the local crowd is higher in the beach.
Fishing is the main occupation done here. Even though, the beach is being famous equally it is littered by the tourists and the local people. This beach is also not properly maintained by the government as well as the local people.
Along with the beach, the village of Covelong, famous for its fishing activities draws many tourists, India's first surfing village here one can surf and stand up paddle in the right hand breaks also one can learn to surf in surf schools in this village like Bay of Life

The seventh edition of Covelong Point Surf Music Yoga Festival held from August 23 to 25.
This event brought together national and international surfers for a three day competition. There was a fascinating lineup of eclectic music, featuring artists from across India and the globe.

A technical video log by our beloved Prof. Dr. S. Krupanidhi, Head of the Department, Biotechnology, VFSTR, on some of the Marine organisms that we found on our visit to Kovalam Beach (Covelong) Chennai. We came across some interesting varieties of sea species out of the fishing nets of the day's catch. Some of them are, colored sea snail, operculum snail, hermit crab, blue swimmers crab, Fringe-fin trevally, Lookdown, Indian oil sardines, Mullet fish, silver belly fish, sand lobsters, sting rays and sole (tongue) fish.
