Our Itinerary:
Day 1 - #pitamakanpass and #dawsonpass
This hike was absolutely incredible, a great way to kick off our trip! We broke our record for longest day hike ever, and had a BLAST doing it!
Day 2 - Upper #twomedicinelake & #twinfalls
Another great hike, this one takes you by an incredible double waterfall and ends at the BEAUTIFUL Upper Two Medicine Lake!
Day 3 - #avalanchelake & #trailofthecedars
Probably the busiest of all of these hikes, but with good reason. Avalanche Lake is SO SO pristine and calm!
Day 4 - #bowmanlake & #numaridge lookout
This is the furthest West we'll go, and the most remote hike of all 9! Numa Ridge is epic, but it is a GRIND to get to!
Day 5 - West #lakemcdonald
No trip to Glacier is complete without a stop at Lake McDonald. A great way to see this lake is by hiking the West side and finishing with an ice cream cone in Apgar Village!
Day 6 - #hiddenlake and #goingtothesunroad
If the Going to the Sun Road is open, you drive it! And when you do, stop at Logan Pass for the Hidden Lake hike! You won't regret it.
Day 7 - #crackerlake
We made it to Many Glacier! 3 of our 4 favorite hikes, starting with Cracker Lake and the most blue milky water we have seen up to this point! And we saw a mountain goat and moose at the top!
Day 8 - #iceberglake
There are literally icebergs in this lake. Everywhere! And this is in Grizzly territory, so be prepared.
Day 9 - #grinnelllake & #grinnellglacier
Our favorite hike of our entire time in Glacier! Grinnell is SO SO SO COOL!

Glacier National Park - Turquoise Cracker Lake
A lovely little hike into Cracker Lake to view the STUNNING turquoise glacial waters...and the remaining glacier above. Perfect Day!
Glacier National Park Cracker Lake
Photo montage of our 6-mile overnight backpack from Lake Sherburne to Cracker Lake in the Many Glacier Region of the Glacier National Park. Camped on the beautiful blue Cracker Lake surrounded by towering mountains covered with ice in the middle of August. Saw a bear, moose, eagle, ground squirrels, and lots of bear poop. Our trip later included a leg-destroying day-hike to Mt. Brown in the Lake Mary region of the park. But what a magnificent view of Lake Mary, Heaven's Peak and other mountains when we got up to Mt. Brown. Our trip was full of reverence and spiritual in many ways.

Glacier National Park Backpacking Bowman Lake Backcountry
Glacier National Park, Montana. July 17-19, 2018
LINKS BELOW will skip you ahead to points of interest
We begin with the ride from West Glacier area to Polebridge
0:40 Bowman Lake foot front country campground and hiker parking quick info. note dayhiker parking often fills by noon and you will be turned around.
1:32 Bowman Lake picnic area
1:44 backpacking info and begin hiking.
2:40 view from foot of Bowman Lake. hike is mostly in the trees but there will be some nice views along the way as well.
3:25 animal remains, likely eaten by grizzly.
4:03 Numa Peak
4:40 Backcountry campground info. sites, bear pole, food prep area and more.
10:08 evening views and Jump in the water. I'll spend hours looking at this view over these few days...
11:18 Salt Crazed deer buck steals a sweat soaked shirt. Salt seekers are a real concern in Glacier. From mice to moose, animals might want to chew on your salty items... Secure them!
13:05 more views until sunset
13:38 up before Sunrise
14:17 Begin dayhike towards Brown Pass. Many people who hike this area do a loop from Kintla Lake over Boulder and Brown Pass to Bowman Lake. I highly recommend watching videos of that loop, links at bottom. Our hike was honestly the amateur version, but still very nice.
15:05 huge scat, likely grizzly. way bigger than my size 12 shoe. Others thought some of the piles we saw may have been elk but after some research it seems most likely all piles were bear.
16:22 lunch stop with views
18:09 partial ascent of Brown Pass, views begin
19:40 views and more views over the next few minutes as we gain elevation. BIG Views out last and we descend again.
24:40 back at camp, Deer Again and more sunset views into the evening.
25:58 very short off trail exploration and sunrise views
Last we'll hike out and get a last look from the foot of the lake.. I'll recommend stopping at Northern Lights Saloon for a good meal when you get back to Polebridge, and Home Ranch Bottoms is a good stop for supplies and a shower... Thanks for coming along with us!
Catherine's video from about 2 weeks earlier below, they do the full Boulder Pass loop from the other direction. Shows big weather difference in a short time and shows how easy our hike really was...
Joey's video that helped us decide to hike in this area below... While i knew we couldn't tackle the entire loop, i like the large lakes and deep forest. This area is less visited than most parts of the Park but is also not too far from the west Glacier area we were in for most of our trip. We wanted to see something different and this could not have worked out any better...Maybe some day we get to do the entire loop, or another part of it...
Cracker Lake 2013
Full Blog with pictures here:
Cracker Lake has never disappointed me. I've hiked to the lake twice and each time I've seen at least a moose, loads of flowers and a bunch or birds. On July 2nd, 2013, I headed out again with one of the board members from the Glacier National Park Conservancy to this wonderful spot. We took our time, smelled the flowers and endured a hot sunny day well into the 90s.

The Skyline Experience: Wynn, 9190, Cracker, and Siyeh Peaks in Glacier National Park
As we hiked it, The Skyline Experience is a twenty mile off-trail alpine route in Glacier National Park. It includes a 5.5 mile ridge walk that soars 4,000 feet above Cracker Lake and stretches from Mt. Wynn to Mt. Siyeh. We descended Mt. Siyeh via the West Couloir Route and headed back to Many Glacier Hotel (where we started) via the Piegan Pass Trail. It was more of a hike than we expected. Starting at about 7:30 am, we didn't exit the woods until midnight. Along the way we ran into grizzly bears, experienced dizzying heights, felt a great deal of pain, and entered a state somewhat beyond exhaustion. This video is a chronicle of our hike. If you should ever end up doing this hike, do let me know. I'd love to hear about your experience! Enjoy!
