Australians Try German Beer | German Beer Tour Hamburg
Today we are in Hamburg, Germany and are spending the day doing the most stereotypical German thing we could think of... Drinking German beer! As it was our only full day to explore this beautiful city, we figured what could be more appropriate than spending the day trying local German beers??
We chose to go on a craft beer tasting/walking tour with Alternative Hamburg, which cost us €35.00 each. The tour took us to three different local venues; The Craft Beer Store, Rathuseum Microbrewery and Schmidtchen Schanze, where we tried a total of six local craft beer brewed locally in Hamburg.
Alternative Hamburg Tours:
Our tour gives you the chance to get in contact with the local brewery scene. Learn about the long history of beer in Hamburg and its relations to the harbor. On this tour, you will visit brewpubs, specialist stores, and bars and taste different styles of beers. Feel the passion of the brewers and taste their unique beers as we walk through the exciting nightlife and craft beer spots in St Pauli´s Sternschanze neighborhood

Dresden Cabaret: Luckiest Man in the World
Performed by Christina Linhardt, Miles, Tuba Heatherton, and Nick Ariondo at the MET Theatre, Hollywood, November, 2007.
Luckiest Man in the World is a duet from George Gershwin's lesser known and rarely performed musical Pardon My English set in Dresden in the 1940's with a rather bizaare plot. The Dresden Cabaret performed to sold out audiences, needing to extend. Produced by Christina Linhardt and the Max Kade Institute for German- Austrian-Swiss Studies, USC. Sponsored in part by Bitbutger Beer.
Publisher Antje Kunstmann - A Flair for Good Books | Made in Germany
She's one-of-a-kind in the world of German publishing: Antje Kunstmann isn't just the head of one of the country's few independent publishing houses, she's also one of few women to hold that position. But Kunstmann herself admits that independence could come at the expense of profitability.

Nice Bike Ride in Germany
A pretty boring video of me and my german exchange student riding through a village in germany. Didn't edit this, cant be bothered. Didn't expect this video to be interesting. The ride itself was fun and interesting but the video I suspect will leave whoever watches it pretty bored. I just put it here so i could share it and force my family through the pain of feeling obligated to watch my shitty videos, xd.
P.S. while looking for this video on my gopro i found a lot of old footage, so when i get home, i think i'll empty my gopro out and stick all the footage together (pretty cringy footage mind you) and make one big cringy video. A lot of the footage is from when i tried to be like casey neistat and vlog, but of course, i'm a ginger and looked completely goofy. I was also like 11, so not only was i a ginger but i was just naturally cringy too. So yeah, that should be some entertaining blackmail later in life. Plus if you cut the audio out of some of the footage it leaves you with some nice footage of far away places. so at least thats cool.

Gare du Nord, Möhnesee, Soest, Germany (HD)
Music is from the band: Gare du Nord The song: Yo que pasa
Gare du Nord is a Dutch-Belgian jazz/lounge duo founded in 2001.
The Möhnesee is an lake formed by the damming of two rivers, Möhne and Heve, and with its four basins stores as much as 135 million cubic metres of water.
The dam was built between 1908 and 1913 to help control floods, regulate water levels on the Ruhr river downstream, and generate hydropower. Today, the lake is also a tourist attraction.
Möhnesee is a municipality in the district of Soest, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated around the Möhne Reservoir (hence the name).
Möhnesee in located north in the Sauerland region. The Sauerland is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited.
Soest is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the capital of the Soest district. After Lippstadt, a neighbouring town.
Soest is the second biggest town in its district.
Because of the fertile soil the area around Soest was occupied long before 836 when the village is first mentioned in the Dagobertsche Schenkung, although the origin of this document is historically uncertain. But there is no doubt that Soest has been inhabited for a long time; excavations in the last two decades have uncovered signs of habitation stretching back more than 4000 years. In the 11th and 12th century Soest grew considerably, making it one of the biggest towns in Westphalia with some 10,000 citizens.
Soest has a multitude of historical buildings and attractions. The many medieval churches are build from a greenish sandstone unique to this area.
Among the old specialties of Soest are the Möppkenbread and the Pumpernickel. The Bakery Haverland at the town center, former royal Bavarian court supplier of the dark bread, has existed since 1570. Another specialty of Soest is the Soester Beer, also called Zwiebel-Bier(or Giebels-Bier) which literally translates as Onion beer, because it's brewed since 1993 in the Zwiebel (Onion) inn. This beer makes you cry. It's very nice.

Maritime Beer Report - August 9, 2013
Hello and welcome to the August 9th edition of the Maritime Beer Report.
Grimross Brewing has added Ben's Bitter Pale Ale to its growing line up of offerings joining the Cheval D'Or and Destrier Farmhouse Stout. It is a Belgian Pale Ale with more bittering hops, according to owner/brewer Stephen Dixon. It will come across as quite floral, with earthy and citrus-fruit tones, and a lasting bitterness in the finish. It is currently available in refillable growlers at the Picaroons Brewtique.
Prince Edward Island Beer Festival is just around the corner and will be happening Friday and Saturday September 6th and 7th. Details that I know of currently is that there will be over 75 different beers available, from breweries such as Amsterdam, Garrison, McAuslan, Hop City, and Erdinger. There are several tasting sessions planned and ticket prices will be in the range of $20 to $120, depending on the session. Stay tuned here for further updates or them out on facebook and twitter.
Barnone Brewing in PEI has has announced they started filling growlers. On Thursdays between 6:00 and 8:00 pm they will be filling at the brewery in Rose Valley both their Pale Ale and Summer Sessions.
Sea Level Brewing has extended the hours at their retail store in Canning. They are now open Monday-Friday 10 am-6 pm, Saturday 10 am-5 pm, and Sunday 12 pm-5 pm. I would like to give a shout out to Jessie who took care of me last Sunday, I am enjoying the Blue Heron.
Uncle Leo's Brewery announced this week both their Red Ale and IPA are now available in 650 mL bombers at Premier Wine & Spirits on Dresden Row in Halifax.
Bridge Brewing announced that they are now offering 19.5 L party kegs for sale based on avaialability. There is a $100 refundable keg deposit, and pricing will be $105 for the Gus or Summer Ale, $110 for the Farmhouse, and $120 for the Strong Dark not including applicable taxes. Call them to order yours today.
There is a new brewery opening in the Falmouth NS area in April of next year. I met Cam and Jen from Schoolhouse Brewery who are busy readying the nanobrewery to produce a couple of beers,a chocolate porter as well as a hopped cream ale to supply two pubs in Wolfville and Windsor and eventually growler fills at the farmers market once a month. They have a website, schoolhousebrewery.ca as well as a facebook page. I will report more on this as I get more information. All the best guys.
It is a great week end to be a beer lover in Halifax.
Rockbottom Brewpub announced there is some special tappings today. There will be X, an Imperial Brown Ale aged 18 months on cedar wood 11% ABV. Vintage Wreckoning,a Russian Imperial Stout fortified with Macallan single malt whiskey 11% ABV, the regular Wreckoning Russian Imperial Stout 10.5% ABV, the Oaked-Aged Double Hoppelganger DIPA 10% ABV and Barrel-Aged Desecration, an Imperial Red Ale 11% ABV. These special taps will only be available for this week end only.
The Hart & Thistle will be putting on Nashfest with several Greg Nash beers available. Listed on their blog was Columbus DIPA 9.1% ABV, Commissar a Russian Imperial Stout fortified with Bulleit bourbon 11% ABV, Hop Mess Monster v3.0″ a DIPA 10% ABV, Old 87″ an American IPA 7% ABV and Kneecapper an India Red Ale 6.1% ABV. As with Rock Bottom it starts today at 4:00 p.m. and ends at close on Sunday.
Seaport Beer Festival starts today, which I attended. Watch for a special report next week. But as a result several craft brewers will not be in their usual spots in Farmers markets this week end. Bridge brewing and Big Spruce released announcements that they will not be at their respective markets because of their committments at Seaport.
That is it for this week. For questions and comments please drop me an email at toddthebeerdude@gmail.com
Until next week enjoy responsibly.
