Russian handicrafts: Kazakovo filigree metalwork
Russian Crafts - Palekh Lacquer Miniature
Artist Anna Kornilova, 21, has been working in the technique of traditional Palekh lacquer minuature for several years. Born in a small Russian city of Palekh, Anna inherited passion for the art from her the artistic family - her parents, grand parents and brother are all painters. In summer 2012 Anna graduated from the Palekh Art College. Now she paints jewelery boxes, earrings, brooches, bracelets, hairpins, eyeglass cases and even computer mouses. Besides beautiful craftworks in the traditional Palekh style Anna creates pieces in her own individual manner.
Anna works from home - like many acclaimed Palekh artists. Previously artists in Palekh used to work in the Artistic Production Workshops, but the workshops were closed in the 1990s. On weekends Anna works as shop assistant in a local souvenir store Kovcheg (The Ark) in the center of Palekh that sells craftworks of local artists including those made by Anna.

Souvenir items with Khokhloma painting
Souvenir items with Khokhloma painting
Khokhloma is perhaps the most widely known Russian folk craft of making hand painted wooden tableware. Frequently used patterns include floral ornaments composed of flowers, grass and berries. Symbolic combination of black background, deep red and magnificent gold is recognized all over the world. Though, it must be noted, no gold is used in the production process. Diversity of Khokhloma souvenirs is amazing, including dinner sets, trays, bowls, spoons, candle holders, music boxes and other interior elements. Each souvenir is a unique example of handicraft and a true masterpiece.
Khokhloma painting appeared in the seventeenth century in one of Nizhny Novgorod provinces. The technology has not changed a lot since then. There are several stages: first workpieces are turned on a lathe, and then the items are grounded with liquid clay mortar and oiled with flaxseed oil, and on the next stage treated with drying oil and dried. This step is repeated three or four times. The next stage is tinning, followed by painting that is done manually. The main tool of the artist is a squirrel-hair brush, a special tool is used to dab berries and flowers. Oil paints are used. Afterwards, the product is covered with several layers of varnish, each of them dried separately in a stove. It is under the influence of high temperature, that varnish turns silver color of the article into golden.

A picturesque house in nature, this is a weekend farm and cottage with a house called 'Dacha' and a garden. About 70% of Russian urban people own multi-cars, and I was very excited to be invited to this place, which is one of the richest riches in Russia with a swimming pool. This is a Russian house. I'm going to rest here and make a shashly (a traditional Russian skewer). The owner enjoys relaxing here with his children and friends. The Russians live like this: An ornate car that reveals the majesty of a mansion made of logs! Oh, this is shampoo. It 's a sword used to make skewer chalcedony. And here is a stone fireplace. The Russians love the fireplace so much rest here. Without this stone fireplace, it's not a Russian house. I like collecting Russians, I keep the gun used in the war. Very large studded car with four rooms on the second floor only! In Russia, which loves multi-car, it is said that multi-car diplomacy and multi-politics have become commonplace and culture. It has a private walkway that allows you to enjoy the mysterious landscapes. From a very long time ago, there was a villa culture called 'Dhaka'. The Russians originally lived in the huts, so they were all huts. So, Russians like trees and their little haven. From there, this culture is very much like me. In the late 1970s, Russia had to distribute 600 square meters of land to the people free of charge, and it became deeply rooted in the lives of Russians...

Museum of Everything
James Brett, founder of the museum, tells us how he came about his collection and The Museum of Everything, the first and only public space for the display of art which has been created by artists living outside the boundaries of mainstream society. Beautiful and challenging, delicate and democratic, this is the secret art, which has inspired generations of artists - from Dubuffet to Basquiat. In this groundbreaking exhibition, the museum has invited leading artists, curators and cultural figures to explore the continuing connection between this genre and contemporary practice.
