About Far Hills
Far Hills encompasses five square miles in Somerset County, bordered by Bedminster Township, Peapack-Gladstone, Bernards Township and Bernardsville. It shares a public library, a community pool, athletic programs, civic organizations and a school system with Bernardsville. It also shares a fire department and a first aid squad with neighboring Bedminster Township.
History
The story behind Far Hills' name comes from an observation made by one of the town's early visitors. One day in 1887, area land developer and town founder Evander H. Schley's brother, Grant, and his wife, Elizabeth, arrived by horse-drawn carriage to see Evander's farms. Elizabeth is said to have remarked on the beautiful vista of the far hills, thus giving a name to the place, even before a village was built.
Elizabeth Schley's assessment over 100 years ago remains an accurate one, as today's residents still appreciate the dramatic countryside views and open, rolling landscapes within Far Hills. The municipality maintains its rural character with ten-acre minimum residential zoning laws for new construction.
Education
Far Hills students in kindergarten through high school attend schools in the Somerset Hills Regional School District, which also serves students from Bernardsville, Far Hills and Peapack-Gladstone. Three schools in the district, all located in Bernardsville, are Bedwell Elementary School (kindergarten to grade four), Bernardsville Middle School (grades five to eight) and Bernards High School.
Far Hills Country Day School is a private, non-sectarian coeducational day school located in Far Hills, serving students in nursery through eighth grade on a fifty-five acre campus.
Transportation
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, New Jersey Transit's Far Hills train station is part of the Gladstone Branch of the Morristown Line. The station is located along Route 202 near the intersection of Far Hills Road. It offers service to New York's Penn Station or Hoboken Terminal. A quaint shopping area adjacent to the train station offers residents a variety of shops and services, including the Far Hills Office of Turpin Real Estate.
Real Estate
In the village are striking examples of Victorian homes with welcoming front porches and well-tended gardens. Further into the borough are majestic country estates, antique farmhouses, traditional center hall Colonials, modest mid-century homes and newly constructed luxury homes. A full range of housing styles and price ranges can be found in Far Hills.
Local Attractions
The Leonard J. Buck Garden is a 33-acre public botanical garden operated by the Somerset County Park Commission.
Natirar (Raritan spelled backward) is an estate spanning 491 acres within Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone and Bedminster. It was recently transferred from the estate of His Majesty, Hassan II, late King of Morocco, to a private, non-profit Natirar Association. The initial sale to King Hassan in 1983 for $7.5 million set a record sales price for a home purchase in New Jersey, a transaction brokered by Turpin Real Estate. The mansion, two cottages, carriage house and greenhouse stand on 88 acres that Somerset County leases to Sir Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Airlines. The main house has been transformed into The Club, a retreat facility with a full-service spa, dining and conference center. Ninety Acres Culinary Center offers a wine and cooking school. The remaining 403 acres will be retained as open space for area residents to use for outdoor activities including cross country skiing, hiking, jogging and fishing.
The Far Hills Race Meeting at Moorland Farms is one of the most prestigious steeplechase horse races in the country, and is a long-standing tradition for nearly 50,000 spectators every October. Benefiting the Somerset Medical Center Foundation, the race has raised nearly $18 million for the facility since the mid-1950s. Considered one of the premier social events of the year in the tri-state area, it is often celebrated with elaborate tailgate parties where paper plates and plastic forks are often substituted with fine china and silver tea services.
The United States Golf Association is headquartered in Far Hills. It houses the world's most extensive collections of golf memorabilia and literature, promoting a greater understanding of the game's cultural significance.
Bindon Farm, 1350 Larger Cross Road, Bedminster, NJ
This stately 80-acre property has deep roots in the celebrated history of turn-of-the-last-century Bedminster. Charmed by its unusual beauty and attracted to its gentleman-farming and equestrian pursuits, industrialists and financiers from nearby New York City were drawn to the area, building superb country estates. R. S. Pierrepont, who commissioned Bindon Farm—then known as Peapacton—was himself an industrial magnate with ancestral links to a founder of Yale and to the country’s first supreme court justice.Designed by the eminent New York-based architect Montague Flagg, and completed in 1917, the main residence at Bindon is a sprawling, French-inspired stucco home, sited to maximize views of its bucolic surrounds of gently rolling hills and woodlands. Characterized by a slate roof, multiple bay windows and dormers, and an unusual conical turret, Bindon is unique among the area’s country homes.Crafted for gracious living and entertaining, Bindon has grand formal rooms, all with fireplaces decorated by intricately carved wood mantels. Hardwood flooring, crown molding, doors with recessed paneling, and period casement windows are found throughout. A butler’s pantry, formal powder room, and large kitchen with adjoining breakfast room and bluestone breakfast patio service the demands of a bustling household with executive entertaining needs.Elegant winding stairs with graceful wrought-iron balusters lead up to the home’s five main bedrooms, including a master suite with two bathrooms and two fireplaces. The main house includes both a first-floor and a second-floor apartment, each with a private living room and kitchen/ette.An unusual offering of Bindon is the 1920’s Godwin-designed brick pool house, which features a vast cathedral-ceilinged living room, loft bedroom, kitchen, and two bathrooms. Wall murals, depicting jungle animals, painted by the late well-known local artist Mare Watts, adorn the 23-foot great room. Beyond are the large lap pool and a Har-Tru tennis court, both strategically placed to take in the sweeping hillside views. The original owner, Pierrepont, was an avid horseman with a passionate interest in farming the property, as reflected in the large stable and barn complex, designed in similar style to the house. Stucco with a slate roof, the seven-stall structure with a tack/wash room, as well as tool, utility, and storage rooms, is built around an open courtyard. Three apartments, with a total of se

Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, New Jersey, Mausoleum Commercial
This kinda creepy mausoleum ad was recorded off the air in 1985, but I remember it playing on New York City stations much earlier than that, early-to-mid 70's maybe. It looks like they later added the graphics in the last fifteen seconds, though. No rights held or implied. Check out oldtvads.blogspot.com for tons more cool commercial stuff from back in the day...

TBEX North America 2018 Finger Lakes Wine Country, New York State
TBEX North America 2018 will take place in the Finger Lakes Wine Country in New York State, USA - September 11-13th 2018. TBEX is the largest community and gathering of travel bloggers, travel writers, travel influencers and travel content creators in the world. The TBEX conference will take place this year, September 11-13th 2018.
Video transcript:
- - [Narrator] This is Laury Poland, President of Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Marketing Association based in Corning, New York. And we are looking forward to hosting TBEX North America 2018, September 11th through 13th. We are a rural area in upstate New York about five hours from New York City. Easy flight, though. But we don't have a traditional event space, and so the Corning Museum of Glass, which houses the largest collection of glass in the world, will be our home for TBEX North America in September. The Corning Museum of Glass is pulling out all the stops to make sure that this educational, enjoyable, and exciting conference will be everything that TBEX participants are looking for. There is so much to do and see in Finger Lakes Wine Country. Corning, being the central location, is really the hub of Finger Lakes Wine Country. If you go a bit east, you're in Tioga County with the Tioga Downs Resort and Casino and some excellent antiquing and beautiful outdoor scenery. A little closer in, about 10 minutes from Corning, is Elmira and the Elmira Corning Regional Airport, probably the easiest way to get into Finger Lakes Wine Country with flights through United, Delta, and Allegiant Air. In Chemung County near where Elmira is located is also referred to as Mark Twain Country. Samuel Clemons, Mark Twain, did all of his writing in Quarry Farm, which was owned by his wife's family. His sister-in-law built him a beautiful octagonal study, which is located on the campus of Elmira College, open to visitors who want to have a piece and a feel for some amazing American literary history. Also, in the Chemung Elmira area, it's the home of soaring. It is the motorless flight capital of America, and our visitors are gonna be able to take glider rides over the Chemung Valley. And in September, if Mother Nature cooperates and the colors start to change, there's no better view anywhere than in a glider high above the Chemung Valley and Finger Lakes Wine Country. Right here in the Corning area we've got historic Market Street. We refer to as the Gaffer District. A gaffer is a glass blower, so of course the name is apropos for the glass history of our region. The photo opportunities just alone on Market Street will be overwhelming. We also have the Rockwell Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, which lends a great deal of art in the American history, which is especially important to art and the history of America right here in Corning. A little further west is Keuka Lake. You have Hammondsport, the birthplace of aviation with the Glenn Curtiss Museum and all of the transportation innovation that he came up with, from biking, cycling, motorcycles, airplanes, dirigibles. Everything you can think of to get you from one place to another, Glenn Curtiss had something to do with. Up on Keuka Lake, Dr. Constantine Frank came here in 1958 and started the vinifera revolution that created Finger Lakes Wine Country. But today, we now have 140 wineries, dozens of breweries, distilleries, cideries, meateries, creameries, chocolatiers, everything and anything any taste buds would look forward to. A little further north, you'll be visiting on opening night Watkins Glen International, the home of American road racing. This is not an oval track. This has got twists and turns that add to the excitement of professional NASCAR and IMSA road racing, and we, all of us, every single one of us, will go around the track at Watkins Glen International when we celebrate the opening of TBEX North America 2018. In Yates County we have Penn Yan and the northern part of Keuka Lake, a beautiful, beautiful part of the region. And we encourage our visitors to TBEX to either rent a vehicle or if they're able to drive on their own, our region is spread out. Again, it's a rural agritourism region. Our focus is wine. That's our sexy hook. Finger Lakes is our geographic distinction. The wine is what gets attention, and country represents all of the tourism assets in our region that make travel interesting. No matter if you're a solo traveler, female, LGBT, coming as inter-generational, if you're coming for light adventure or rich adventure, history, whatever is your interest in terms of travel, you can find it in Finger Lakes Wine Country.

Historic Long Meadows c.1730
Long Meadows is considered by many to be one of the most important historic estates in estate rich Washington County. Built in 3 stages on one of the earliest land grants in the county, this home grew as its subsequent owners became more affluent. From the intimate c.1730's section with its thick stone walls, historic detail and modern amenities, to the impressive 1840's brick Greek Revival section with high ceilings, grand entry hall and spacious rooms, and finished with a 1908, Y.E. Yessler designed addition that compliments the 1840's section and connects to the original c.1730 stone structure. One of the finest colonial manor homes in Maryland, Long Meadows has been carefully restored by the current owners. Nestled on a landscaped 4 acre lot, surrounded by farm land with gorgeous views of South Mountain, this 8 bedroom manor home represents a truly historic opportunity at stewardship of the highest order. Steeped in history that includes visits by Washington, Jefferson & Braddock, as well as, colorful owners like Colonial Thomas Cressap, the notorious Maryland partisan, Long Meadows offers us a portal to a past life that exists in every sensitive soul. The turn of a sculpted key in a carpenter lock follows the same motion as a hundred hands before and the tread of a heel on a pine plank produces the same sound as century ago. Long Meadows offers a buyer the unique opportunity to become a part of the continuum of history.
