London Walk Around. The Roof Garden of Crossrail Place in Canary Wharf
Crossrail place roof garden, London
A walk around the Crossrail indoor roof garden in the middle of London's Canary Wharf
???? Crossrail Place Roof Garden - Canary Wharf
The Crossrail Place Roof Garden sits under a 300m long timber-latticed roof located on the top floor of the Crossrail Station in Canary Wharf, London. As a homage to the location's previous use as a wharf of the West India Dock Company, plants from shipping locations around the world have been chosen to adorn the garden. The garden's layout is based on the native hemisphere of the various plants, thus Asian plants to the east and plants of the Americas to the west. The garden with its bird and plant life provides a tranquil escape from the busy financial district that surrounds it.

tropical roof gardens and a leisure complex. Designed to sit above a new Crossrail station at Canary Wharf in London has opened to the public.
The seven-storey structure is the first new building for Crossrail – London's new east-west rail link – to open, although trains will not run from the station for at least three years.
Located in the heart of London's Canary Wharf financial hub on the North Dock, the station will be one of 40 that will serve the capital's new rail network, scheduled to open in 2018.
Crossrail Place at Canary Wharf by Foster + Partners
British firm Foster + Partners has designed the roof structure and cladding that wraps around the four storeys of shopping and leisure facilities above ground level, as well as the gardens on the top level. Collectively named Crossrail Place, the shopping centre and outdoor space will opened to the public on 1 May.

The roof garden, landscaped by London-based studio Gillespies, is located directly beneath a 310-metre-long transparent hood. Triangular air-filled cushions made from ETFE – a type of plastic used for its resistance to corrosion – are set into the timber-latticed awning.
Like Crossrail, one of the aims of the new roof garden is to connect London from east to west, said Norman Foster in a statement.
It provides a welcoming public space between the residential neighbourhood of Poplar and the business district of Canary Wharf, demonstrating the role of infrastructure as the 'urban glue' that binds a city together, added the Foster + Partners founder.

CROSSRAIL PLACE ROOF GARDEN IN CANARY WHARF
On one of the days I went to see Crossrail Place Roof Garden in Canary Wharf. It was really lovely.
Sorry that this video is so short and doesn't really has intro and ending. I'm still working on my filming and editing skills.
Also I completely forgot to show you what I had for lunch because I was too hungry to think about it. Anyways I had a nice simple burger with fries and probably the best brownies dessert so far. Brodie's Bar & Kitchen also has a very nice view as you can see in the video. By the way, this video is not sponsored, I simply really liked this place and if you would like to go here yourself, check their website

Crossrail Place Canary Wharf
London, UK 2008 – 2015
Foster + Partners were commissioned to design a mixed-use scheme above and around the new Crossrail station, due to open in 2018. A new enclosure around the station is intended to further the project’s central aim – to open up London from east to west. Located in the north dock, adjacent to the practice’s HSBC tower at Canary Wharf and the residential neighbourhood of Poplar, Crossrail Place Canary Wharf creates a bridge between the two by creating new public amenities and open space.

Canary Wharf Crossrail Place Roof Garden
If you visit Canary Wharf get up there and relax in a very peaceful environment. Still pretty quiet since opening, albeit more people are aware of it now. A great relaxed place to sit and eat your lunch, or look at plants imported from all over the world. Definitely some much needed greenery in the area.

Kensington Roof Gardens - Project of the Week 5/7/18

The Roof Gardens (formerly known as Derry and Toms Roof Gardens and the Kensington Roof Gardens) is a 6,000 m2 exotic urban oasis situated six floors up and 100 feet above Kensington High Street in London. Closed as of January 2018, Virgin Limited Edition, the most recent leaseholder, was not able to reach an agreement with the freeholder about renewal of the lease. Previously occupied and made famous by the Derry & Toms Department Store, The Roof Gardens has been owned by Sir Richard Branson since 1982. Part of Virgin Limited Edition, they hosted a members' club, a private function venue and the Babylon Restaurant on the seventh floor overlooking the gardens. The Roof Gardens was open to the public during this time.
In 1936, Welsh landscape architect Ralph Hancock designed the roof garden. Over a two-year period Hancock planted more than 500 species of plants and shrubs within 18-36” of growing media in the one and a half acre site. The Derry and Toms Roof Gardens opened in May 1938. Queen Mary and other members of the British Royal family visited the roof gardens early after opening. At the time, the roof garden was London and Europe's largest intensive greenroof.
The three themed gardens include: the Spanish Garden, planted with palm trees with a court of fountains, as well as Moorish colonnades and vine-covered walkways; the formal Tudor Courtyard, which features Hancock's trademark herringbone brickwork pathways and impressive Tudor-inspired arches; and the English Woodland Garden, with over 100 trees and a flowing stream with fish, ducks, and four resident flamingos. Now closed after 37 years of one of London's best-known nightlife scenes and event venues, plans for The Roof Gardens remain uncertain. As an English Heritage-designated Grade II Site, the gardens will not be demolished but who will maintain the site is unknown. London’s most famous and historic roof garden may still YET have a future as a secret garden in the sky.

London becomes a Roof Garden City with green living roofs, sky gardens and sustainable sky parks
London can become the world's Roof Garden Capital, with green living roofs and walls planted with sedums, grass, flowers, orchard trees and shrubs. In 2013 the city roofscape was a sterile wasteland, relieved by a few sedum roofs and roof gardens. It could be made beautiful, sustainable and a great place for rest and relaxation.
A pioneering roof at the University of Greenwich shows how this can be done. It will be used by staff and students from the Department of Architecture and Landscape education courses for teaching and research - and also by birds, bees and a biodiverse range of species in roof gardens and ecological habitats.

Walking London : The Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens : England
A first-person perspective London walk tour of The Albert Memorial.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring The Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens. The route begins in Kensington Gardens heading south towards The Albert Memorial, crossing The Flower Walk, and finally circling the memorial, where the tour concludes.
Sights seen along the tour include Kensington Gardens, Royal Albert Hall, a game of lawn bowls taking place, tourists, and The Albert Memorial with its Statue of Albert, Frieze of Parnassus, and Allegorical sculptures.
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded May 2017.
