** About The Chesapeake Wine Region **
The Eastern Shore of Maryland wine growing region is positively effected by the Chesapeake Bay - an estuary, a body of water where fresh and salt water mix. It is the largest of more than 100 estuaries in the United States and third largest in the world. In many ways it is shaping one of Maryland's fastest growing wine regions - The Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The soil is sandy and well-drained, and the climate is both moderated and protected by the bay waters, effecting warm days and cool nights perfect for grape growing!
The surge of fresh water into the upper bay provides the beneficial cooling breezes for vineyards. The saltier water moving up the bay veers toward the Eastern Shore. Saline waters in general compound evaporation effecting less intense rainfalls - helpful for the optimal harvest timing for optimal grapes.
Crow in particular is located in the Rivers to Canal Wine Corridor, just north of Chestertown. It is surrounded by three nearby bay rivers West, North and South of its location with sufficient elevation for cooling breezes. The C&D Canal at the North head of the corridor furthers the moderating influences of the bay.
** The Eastern Shore terroir is a fantastic growing region. The soil is essentially loam, a highly fertile soil rich in nutrients and organic matter. Because it contains these three types of soils, it proudly boasts the two best qualities that a soil should have for growing grapes. The Eastern Shore climate is moderated/protected by the bay waters, effecting warm days and cool nights perfect for grape growing! Grapes are being grown up and down the Bay shoreline from the upper shore to the lower shore. Almost any style of grape can do reasonably well here. Maryland's Eastern Shore is located on the upper Chesapeake Bay, which is less prone to ocean climatic swings than the lower bay helping to provide a climate lock where temperature averages and extremes are very similar and more predictable for the grower.

Harvest Host Free Camping at Rumbleway Farm in Maryland
15% Off Harvest Hosts:
On this Airstream Life vLog, we arrive to spend the night at Rumbleway Farm in Maryland as part of the Harvest Host program. The Harvest Host membership allows to camp here on this beautiful farm for free!
When we arrived the owners were busy running the farm so we parked the Airstream out of the way until they were back. While waiting Penny got to see her first peacock. She was very interested in it and didn't quite know what to make of it.
Once they returned we checked in and got set up on a nice level spot on their property. Then we went to check out the farm store. So many delicious products. We ended up buying some ground beef, sausages, and scrapple all from their animals. How cool is that? Everything was frozen so we didn't eat them there but are planning some awesome dinners in the future.
After shopping at the store we sat out to have happy hour and then watch the sunset. So gorgeous! You never know what you will get when you go to a Harvest Host but it is almost always quiet and beautiful!
We spent a peaceful night...not even disturbed by the peacocks before we started heading towards Delaware. We highly recommend Rumbleway Farms if you are driving through Maryland in the future.
Stay tuned for our adventures in Delaware in our next video.

Harvest Hosts Free Camping at The Vineyard At Hershey
15% Off Harvest Hosts:
On this Airstream Life vLog, we leave NJ, pay the toll to get into Delaware, and then finally make it to Pennsylvania and our next overnight location...another Harvest Host Vineyard. This one is the Vineyard (and Brewery) at Hershey.
They have an awesome large parking lot that would be able to fit any size rig. We pulled in and got set up so our patio door faced a gorgeous view of the surrounding farms. We set up, checked the Verizon cell signal and therefore our internet (which was AMAZING) before heading down the hill to the tasting room.
Unfortunately, the brewery was closed the night we stayed (it looked awesome!) but the tasting room was open! As part of our Harvest Host stay we even got a free wine and cider tasting! The wines and ciders were amazing. We had a hard time picking our favorites and ended up taking home 3 bottles. For the price of one night of camping at the resort we are heading to next...it was a deal!
After our enjoyable wine tasting, we headed back up the hill to the Airstream. We had a lovely happy hour sitting outside overlooking the fields. Penny had a blast running around and enjoying the open land and the sunset was magnificent.
We spent a quiet evening and quiet morning in their parking lot until we could leave to check-in to our next camping reservation only 15 minutes away. That shows how much we love Harvest Hosts! We chose to stay at one only 15 minutes from our next campground. We are glad we did!
Stay tuned for the Camping Resort and enjoying Hershey Park in our next video.

Harvest Host in New York | Abbott Farms, Cheap RV Living
An overnight stay at a Harvest Host location in New York was a great stop for The McMillan Express. At Abbotts Farm in Baldwinsville, NY, Christina had her fair share of ice cream and Ben stocked up on organic meat. The hard apple cider was a hit, also! Nancy and Windsor Abbott are very sweet and special folks who love the Harvest Hosts Program.
This was a great stop for us on our RV journey across America!

Harvest Host @ Fiesta Winery, Colorado Bend State Park, Gorman Falls Hike! Full Time Van LIfe!
Back Roads of Texas take us to Fiesta Winery, a beautiful winery right on the Colorado River. After spending the night there we drive the short distance to Colorado Bend State Park and hike into Gorman Falls.
Stuck In The Sand | First Harvest Host Boondocking
We try out our first Harvest Host free RV camping spot and get stuck in the sand! Our stay at From The Farm in Yuma, AZ, was delicious, gorgeous, and hot. The cabbage leaf tacos, fresh from the field, we’re delicious and the ice cream cones were a refreshingly cool treat.
We camped just outside of one of the working fields in a dusty patch and ended up getting our tires stuck in the sand. After a quiet and beautiful evening we dug out of the sand and headed off deeper into the heart of Arizona.
Indiana | Family Time in Beautiful Indiana | Cheap RV Living
Full time RV living- Indianapolis, Indiana is Christina's hometown and since it's the crossroads of America, naturally we pass through!! We camped at Summit Lake State Park in White Castle, Indiana for a few days before we made it to Grandma's driveway. Luckily, our RV fit perfect and we were able to dry camp/ driveway surf here for a couple weeks. Not only did this save us money but we were able to spend some real time with our gigantic family! What you see here is just a small taste of our family that consists of well over 200 people. We got too busy visiting to capture most of our family but we are so grateful for the memories. We cannot wait to go back soon.

Profile: Crow Winery's Winemaker Catrina North
There comes a moment in the life of a young winery when a decision is made to hire a full-time winemaker. It is a seminal point for most, representing a big step into the big leagues of wine production with a major investment in one person, rather than part-time consultants or amateur instincts, to decide what wines to grow and when to harvest.
Crow Winery in Kennedyville crossed that threshold a few months ago when they brought on Catrina North to head up their growing wine production. The product of a grape-growing family from upper New York State, trained in Austraila, Napa, and the Finger Lakes District, and most recently the winemaker in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Catrina brings a level of expertise to the Kent County winery that clearly indicates Crow's intention to be serious player in the fledgling Maryland wine scene.
In her Spy interview, Catrina talks about her background, some of the bias she has developed in producing good wine, and her aspirations for Crow Winery. She also talks about the challenges Maryland wine faces as being the relatively new kid on the block next to New York and Virginia as well as its great potential on the East Shore.

Into Pennsylvania...Harvest Host and Ghosts! Roadtrek Nomads
We spend a couple nights at the Grovedale Winery in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania where we meet Nadine Riley. She's just a gal and her dogs that love to travel in her Class C RV. Pistol makes a love connection with the winery pig, Bixby. We then experience the scariest haunted house ever, 'Insane Asylum!! It is held in a centuries old still operational funeral home that is part of the winery property. Talk about extra creep factor!! Do we make it out alive??!
What is it like to be a Host with Harvest Hosts?
In this video we speak with the owners of Boothbay Craft Brewery about what it's like to host RV members of Harvest Hosts.
Win and Lori Mitchell talk about how Harvest Hosts has impacted their business, and why they enjoy being a part of the program.
