Crown Point State Historic Site
Crown Point State Historic Site is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the ruins of two fortifications from the colonial wars between the British and French. Long before the American Revolution these colonial powers both laid claim to the Champlain Valley and this strategically important peninsula known as Crown Point. The French built Fort St. Frederic here between 1734 and 1737 and used it as a base for raids on British settlements in New York and New England. As a result, the British mounted various expeditions to take control of Crown Point, and in 1759 they were finally successful. They immediately began construction of new fortifications that they called His Majesty's Fort of Crown Point. Enclosing over seven acres this was one of the largest built by the British in North America.
In 1775, at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, the American colonists captured the fort and secured sorely needed cannons and heavy ordnance. Crown Point was occupied by General John Burgoyne's army in 1777 after the American evacuation to Mount Independence and remained under British control until the end of the war. The ruins of Fort St. Frederic, His Majesty's Fort of Crown Point, and surrounding lands were acquired by the State of New York in 1910.
Today, visitors can explore the preserved ruins of these forts and tour the museum which includes a multimedia orientation program, large scale models, and an exhibit of original artifacts recovered from the site by archaeologists. Additionally, the site offers access to the historic Crown Point Pier, the Champlain Memorial Lighthouse, the walking paths on either side of the newly constructed Lake Champlain Bridge, and fantastic views of Lake Champlain.

Fort Montgomery Rouses Point NY
I got permission to go to an old fort called Fort Montgomery in Rouses Point. Here are the pictures and video from the visit.
Construction of this fort started in 1844 and was not finished until around 1870. The name Montgomery comes from the architect Montgomery C. Meigs who is the person responsible for its design.
Currently the fort is unstable and needs to be shored back up. The current owner has been trying to find ways to shore it up but it is a costly problem.
Disclaimer, exploring old and abandoned buildings can be dangerous and/or illegal. Always get permission to visit a location and always let someone know where you are so if something happens people know where to look for you.

Miss USA 1952-2019 Crowning Moments
The Miss USA pageant was conceived in 1950 when Yolande Betbeze, winner of the Miss America pageant, refused to pose for publicity pictures while wearing a swimsuit. Pageant sponsor Catalina decided to pull their sponsorship off the pageant and create their own competition. Other owners have included a subsidiary of Gulf+Western Industries, ITT Corporation, and Donald Trump.
The first Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants were held concurrently in Long Beach, California in 1952; the first Miss USA winner was Miss New York USA Jackie Loughery. There were thirty delegates in the first year of competition, and many states did not compete every year during the first two decades of the pageant's history. From the 1970s, each state and the District of Columbia have sent a delegate each year. Alaska first competed in 1959 and Hawaii in 1960. Both had competed at Miss Universe until this time.
The pageant aired on CBS from 1963 until 2002, and for many years was known for having a CBS game show host as pageant host. John Charles Daly hosted the show from 1963–1966, Bob Barker from 1967 (he was not a regular for the CBS network until 1972 when he became host of The Price Is Right which he hosted until 2007) until 1987 (at which point he quit in a dispute over fur coats), Alan Thicke in 1988, Dick Clark from 1989 to 1993, and Bob Goen from 1994 to 1996. The show's highest ratings were in the early 1980s, when it regularly topped the Nielsen ratings. Viewership dropped sharply from the 1990s to the 2000s, from an estimated viewership of 20 million to an average of 7 million from 2000–2001. In 2002, owner Donald Trump brokered a new deal with NBC, giving them half-ownership of the Miss USA, Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA and moving them to NBC on an initial five-year contract. The pageants were first shown on NBC in 2003.
Historically, the winner of the Miss USA title represented the U.S. in its sister pageant Miss Universe. Since its inception, eight Miss USA titleholders have gone on to win Miss Universe. In the mid-1960s, the organization established a rule that when a Miss USA wins the Miss Universe title, the first runner-up assumes the Miss USA title for the remainder of the year. This occurred in 1980, 1995, 1997, and 2012. In 1967, the first runner-up Susan Bradley of California declined the title and the crown went to the second runner-up Cheryl Patton of Florida. The only instance when a first runner-up assumed the title of Miss USA prior to this period was in 1957, when Mary Leona Gage of Maryland resigned after it was discovered she was married.
The winner is assigned a one-year contract with the Miss Universe Organization, traveling across the United States, and in some cases overseas, to spread messages about their chosen causes. Aside from the job, the winner also receives a cash allowance for her entire reign, a modelling portfolio, beauty products, clothes, shoes, as well as styling, healthcare, and fitness services by different sponsors of the pageant. She also gains exclusive access to events such as fashion shows and opening galas, as well as access to casting calls and modeling opportunities throughout New York City. When Donald Trump owned the pageant, the winner was given the use of a Trump Place apartment in New York City during her reign, which she shared with the Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA titleholders. If the winner, for any reason, cannot fulfill her duties as Miss USA, including if she wins the title of Miss Universe, the 1st runner-up takes over.
In late-June 2015, both NBC and Spanish-language network Univision (which was to begin a new five-year contract for Spanish rights) announced that they would cut their ties with Donald Trump and the Miss Universe Organization in response to remarks Trump made relating to undocumented immigrants during the launch of his 2016 U.S. presidential campaign. Trump threatened to sue both companies over the decision; on June 30, 2015, Trump sued Univision for defamation and breach of contract. In February 2016, Donald Trump and Univision reached a settlement ending the litigation. The terms of the settlement remain confidential but included an agreement for Trump to buy back NBCUniversal's stake in the MUO.
After losing its television partners, it was announced that Miss USA 2015 would be streamed on the pageant's website. Shortly before the pageant, Reelz Channel announced that it would broadcast Miss USA 2015.
In September 2015, IMG bought the Miss Universe Organization for an undisclosed amount. The company had previously been involved in licensing and production for the events. The following month, Fox announced that it had acquired the U.S. television rights to Miss USA and Miss Universe beginning with Miss Universe 2015.
The current Miss USA is Cheslie Kryst of North Carolina who was crowned on May 2, 2019 at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.

Fort Ontario, Oswego, New York | WPBS Short Flix
Fort Ontario, in Oswego, New York, has been involved, in one way or another, in nearly every war in American history.
The first Fort Ontario was built by the British in1755 to protect their only fur trading village on the Great Lakes from the French, who controlled the fur trade throughout the region.
The Fort was totally destroyed a year later, when the French unsuccessfully attacked, and the British rebuilt it in 1759. During the Revolutionary War, American soldiers burned the fort down, but the British held on. They rebuilt and remained until 1796, 13 years after the American Revolution. The fort was then handed over to the Americans.
The third fort lasted until The War of 1812. The British attacked on May 6, 1814, and were victorious. What remained of the fort was once again rebuilt directly upon the 1759 pentagon-shaped remains.
Later in American hands, the fort was expanded. During World War I, Fort Ontario was the site of the largest Army hospital in the Northeast. And during World War II, it was home to 982 European refugees welcomed to the United States.
Today, Fort Ontario is part of the New York State park system. Visitors can wander through the many buildings and tunnels.

Today we wake up very early to catch a ferry from Battery Park over to Liberty Island. After checking out the pedestal, we head up to the crown of the Statue of Liberty! The view is spectacular and the inside of the statue is amazing (if not humid), but we eventually leave. After walking around Liberty Island a little more, we catch the ferry over to Ellis Island, the entry point to the United States of America for millions of immigrants during the first part of the last century. We walk through the registration room, the dorms, and many of the other rooms that were used to process immigrants. We then head back to Manhattan and go over a few tips for visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty yourself.

He isn’t a well-known leader and doesn’t run a vast state but rather a relatively small country. And officially he isn’t even the country’s top leader.
Despite all this, on June 2nd 2019, the New York Times published a report declaring Mohammed bin Zayed, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, the richest and most powerful emirate of the United Arab Emirates, as the world's most powerful political leader in the Arab world. That puts him above the new de facto Saudi Arabian leader, Mohammed bin Salman. Does the fact that the United Arab Emirates has such well-known cities as Dubai or Abu Dhabi have anything to do with it?
After the New York Times report was published, we asked ourselves a few questions: Who is Mohammed bin Zayed? What are the keys to his power? Is he really the most powerful Arab political leader in the world? In this video we’ll try to answer these questions and analyze how far the power of Abu Dhabi, and by extension that of the United Arab Emirates, really goes.
